The Eye Doctor Albert Evans was funny and had a fantastic personality, and saved me $98.00 (cost of the Eye Exam)! He sat me down and treated me like we all want to be treated (not try to just take our money and treat us like a number). He asked me why I was getting an eye exam when I already had one a year or so ago so he insisted I can save money by going with the lens strength I had already (I brought in my present glasses that I use, but need to get a new pear of lens on a designer frame I have from years ago). Dr. Evans was extremely unprofessional. We walked out of the appt because he refused to wear a mask, saying "It's useless". He made an off-color comment about the age of myself and my 17yr old daughter, then he said out loud "That was snarky.." It was one of the strangest, most uncomfortable appts I've ever encountered. I have bought several pairs of glasses here but never with using insurance. I was always happy with the price and quality. When I went in and said I had insurance I bought a pair for 124.00 shown on my receipt which I paid for. They filed a claim with insurance for 200.00 and kept the extra 200. I let my insurance company know as this was a total rip off. I paid the exact amount for my glasses they got paid by me and they filed to get a bonus of 200. They do not plan to refund me. I purchased glasses from my ophthalmologist. They kept bending and losing the small screws that hold the lenses in place. Worse, they were only available for service on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and it was Friday. So I stopped at One Price Optical and they repaired my glasses free of charge. I promised them that when I needed new glasses I would be back. As time passed, I broke the frames at work and the warranty had expired 9 days previous!!. I went back to One Price Optical and Diane, Todd and Hope could not have been more understanding and helpful. They found new frames that actually fit my lenses and are much more resilient than those sold by the opthalmologist. In addition, I have a new eye exam coming up and Diane quoted me an outstanding price for glasses with progressive and transitional lenses costing less than half of what I paid for the original. I scheduled my appointment here because I found it on my VSP site and its also really close to my home. I have to take off work early to make my appointment, for some reason this area doesn't have any offices open on Saturdays. I went in for my eye exam in an effort to make sure my eyes were healthy and to check if my vision had worsened. My intention wasn't to purchase any glasses that day but certainly take home my prescription. First of all, they couldn't find my sheet with my insurance info, it seems it was shredded the night before by mistake but before we knew this, the receptionist claimed I did not have VSP or wasn't eligible. I told him there was no way .. I've only used my insurance once this year and that was to order my contacts since VSP gives you $150 allowance. So he stood corrected and later apologized. This Doctor according to the Patient form i filled out, does not accept patients that don't speak English! How outrageous is that considering this is Florida and its blatant discrimination. He also wouldn't prescribe eye drops for my sensitive right eye, I have never met an eye doctor that didn't prescribe drops for inflammation!! He says he can't check corneas or eye infections bc its medical!! He literally said, he wasn't trained for that and that he would lose business!! I pretty much wasted my time at this place. I've scheduled another appointment in Ft. Myers who is a cornea specialist. read more

The doctor was rude, condescending and unprofessional. He rushed through the exam and was annoyed at any questions I had. My husband and I have been purchasing our eye wear from One Price Optical for several years. In December 2018 I was in Chicago when I needed a new pair of glasses ASAP, so I made the purchase there. In March of this year the glass frame broke while wintering here in Florida. Fortunately, I was able to obtain a replace frame from the Chicago store. I took my glasses with the broken frame and the new frame to One Price Optical. They changed out the lenses in just a few minutes and did it all gratis. My Husband and I have been going to Dr. Evans at One Price Optical since the 1990's. We have found him very nice, informative, very friendly and does not rush the exams. His staff is very knowledgeable and willing to answer any and all questions you might have. I went in today for an exam and 2 new pair of glasses, since my eyes have not changed but very little do to the very early stage of cataracts (not for at least a couple of years or more ) nothing to be concerned about now. I decided to keep my glasses. Was not charged for the exam. There are several Eye Doctors and Optical Companies on the Cape and in Fort Myers, we chose to keep our business on the Cape. My wife and I called to schedule exam appointments for the next day. We were met by friendly staff that helped us search for new frames while the other had their eyes checked. Yes, their form does state that the doctor limits his exams to patients fluent in English. I don't understand the problem here. I have been wearing glasses since I was nine. I have had some crappy eye exams where I felt rushed and likely didn't get the best prescription. If you can't communicate fluently with your doctor, how can you expect the best results? Anyway, the doctor took his time, asked the right questions and put up with my difficulty with deciding whether #1 or #2 was better. It was a thorough and professional exam. My wife has a degenerative retina disease, and it was impossible for the doctor to determine her proper prescription (probably because she can barely see out of one eye.) Because of this, she couldn't get a new prescription from the doctor. He didn't charge us, although he seemed to take as much time with her as he did with me. Was she upset? Sure she was, However, the helpful front office personnel were able to arrange new glasses for her using the prescription read off of her old glasses. Yay! Truthfully, the doctor could have used plain glass for my wife's bad eye, charged us his regular fee and no one would have known the difference. That he chose not to do this shows that he's got integrity, not that he's a d!ck. I can respect that. He's a professional in the very best sense of the word. Anyway, we're happy with our choice of One Price Optical. Their prices are more than fair and their front office people are friendly and helpful - and they're cute, too. I think that Dr Evans has been beat up unnecessarily on Yelp for running his practice the way that he thinks is best.. You don't have to agree with his ideas - you could always go to Walmart. Amazing selection! Incredible prices! Great staff and doctor! I could barely afford contacts alone at other places. The exam (I have astigmatism and a strong prescription ), a 6-month supply and glasses, and a gorgeous pair of glasses with the upgraded thinner lenses cost me around the same price as just the exam at other places. Their selection of frames is remarkable! The gentleman there picked out a frame and, after viewing every frame they have, I ended up going with the frame he picked. I picked them up today and I LOVE them. The entire place is immaculately clean. As far as the negative reviews, the doctor was great! I understand completely why he requests his patients to speak English. The paperwork clearly states that if you don't speak English they will help you find an eye doctor who speaks your language. The doctor can't diagnose you properly if he can't understand you. It's not racist, it's common sense. I went to One Price Optical 2 days ago after I went to Tyson optical. At Tyson, I was examined by an assistant and charged $45.00 for the refraction exam. I wanted a second opinion and went to One Price. I was seen by a doctor of optometry and sure enough, his findings were different than Tyson's. Just the lenses only were close to $600 at Tyson, at One Price $200 including frames. Two days later, I got my glasses. After reading other reviews, I reluctantly went to One Price Optical. It was very close to where I live and they could get me in right away. I was pleasantly surprised by the store, the friendly staff and doctor. There were tons of eye glass frames with prices on them or the case so you don't have to guess. They had good priced generic frames as well as the more expensive upgrades and brand names. The exam was $78 so I walked out of there for around $350 with NO insurance help. What I got for that was the eye exam, Progressive bifocals (upgrade) with Crizal no-glare (upgrade) and Transition tint (upgrade) lenses. I had my own Coach frames and they had no problem putting the lenses in my frames. I had a choice of brown or gray for the Transitions which was nice since a lot of places only have gray. There was no pressure at all to go top end options for the lenses. They made me aware of the options, explained the differences and then let me choose what I wanted. read more

Hope was wonderful and personally walked with me to help me choose the frames that I wanted. This place is horrendous. The doctor is an old man who is extremely prideful when he shouldn't be. The patient form I filled out said that they don't accept patients who don't speak English. I was disgusted by the discrimination that takes place at this establishment. I would not recommend this place to anyone. The doctor is very rude and when you ask questions he gets defensive and assumes you're trying to say he's wrong or something. He kept cutting me off when I was talking and walked out of the room and refused to treat me because I had a question about my glasses!! When it comes to my health I believe I should be able to ask questions so I fully understand. I am DISGUSTED by this doctor and the way this place is ran. Ps I waited over an hour for my appointment and it's not like he was doing anything.
