I changed insurance providers and it required me to choose a PCP. This was new to me, but sometimes…read moreyou have to do things you'd rather not and insurance coverage is still good so this change was a necessary evil. I looked through the list and found this place that was a mere 5 minute drive from where I live - plus, Dr. Do had pretty good reviews! We have a winner! I made an appointment for 10:30 am on Friday for my annual physical check up and arrived about 20 minutes ahead of the appointed time. I thought I would be finished and home by 11:30 so I had the entire day planned with that in mind, since I had a flight out of Houston that evening. The parking lot was pretty full and though the entire strip was located on a small road, the spots in front of the clinic side of the strip were full so I parked further down. Once in, over half of the seats in the waiting area were full. I know that the place had several doctors, so I didn't think too much of it. You go straight to the receptionist(s) at the counter. They don't really look at you until you say something. I'm hoping it's because they were busy and were not rude in general. However, once you have their attention, they're fairly nice in an all-business manner. It's their job to make sure you fill out all the forms. I filled out the forms and then returned them. It was close to my appointment time now. More people came in and I ended up sitting next to a nice Hispanic guy and we spoke for a while. I wasn't called in until 40 minutes after my appointment. Turns out my physical also included a female wellness check up. Fun stuff, but why not? Plus, it was all covered by my insurance. Might as well see what my body has been up to. The nurse that brought me in was really nice. When I told her that my appointment was actually at 10:30 when she said they weren't too far behind (when she came to get me, another patient on the waiting floor asked her how much longer she had to wait), she said that it wasn't too bad since it didn't hit the 1 hour mark. I found that wait time ridiculous. Even if there were delays, there are no excuses for that kind of delay (more than 15 minutes) unless you double booked. Apparently, they get really busy and the day before, they had a total of 30 patients just in the morning and they're off for an hour and a half for lunch. She asked me the usual questions and I felt pretty comfortable, despite the amount of time I spent waiting. I was then brought to a different room (turns out their other rooms were full so in order to not delay too much, they brought me in anyway) before my vital signs were taken. I blame my slightly higher than normal BP reading on that walk, haha. Then I was brought to an examination room for the actual consultation and procedures with Dr. Do. Dr. Do was really nice, asking things pertaining to my health but also about myself in general. I'm sure she was busy but I didn't feel rushed much. She also has an English accent. Finally, I was lead to a final room for the blood drawing and then given directions for the urine sample. The entire process was thoroughly explained and I was told the lab results would be ready in 3 days and could be accessed online. I would also be contacted by phone. I then "checked out" and that was that. I was starving by the time I got home by around 12:10 since I had a hunch that I would need my blood drawn, and they recommend you not eat. Overall, once inside, the experience was good. Outside, the wait is unreasonable and the receptionists could be a little more helpful. I feel like they're used to more regulars so some of the things aren't explained too much. Plus, I'm not sure if they know much about what the procedures include because I had called before the appointment to see if I needed to fast before the appointment. The person I spoke to wasn't sure but said that I should, "just in case." I thought about how wonderful it would be if I fasted for no reason. Good thing a couple of my friends had their check ups recently and they told me not to eat beforehand. One important thing since it seems like you're bound to wait: if you're on a time crunch, schedule your appointment as the first one of the morning or the afternoon so you're the first one in. Otherwise, bring entertainment or sit next to someone talkative. I don't mind my new PCP and location, but the wait time can definitely be shortened and the receptionists can be a little more knowledgeable. Or at least acknowledge you when you peer into their cube instead of stare at you before you tell them what you're there for.

Just a few of the specifics -- - Completed all forms in advance as requested, apparently for no reason. Required to do them all again in office. Ok. - Left in a changing room for considerable time with zero indication of why there was a delay and how long it would last. Ok, not great, but still ok. - Demeaning and ridiculous quotes painted on the walls all over the offices (eg, 'the best makeup a woman can wear is a SMILE!') Hmm, moving towards the "not ok" line . . - The "not ok" line is breached: A care approach that essentially treats patients as idiots. - Just one example: the technician absolutely insisted that test results could only go to the patient's doctor and not to the patient. Had to speak to her supervisor to get confirmation that OF COURSE a patient is entitled to her own treatment records directly. When I asked the supervisor why the technician falsely insisted otherwise, the reply was "well, she just didn't know." Um, basic job training? These problems appear to be specific to this office. If you prefer to be treated as an intelligent person, and wish to avoid aggressively-delivered misinformation, avoid the facility on Fannin at all costs.

When I was finally able to check In for Mammo/dexa, I was told dexa scans could not be performed after 2pm. Despite being checked in before 2pm. So I continued with the mammo exam and made a dexa appointment for the following day. After checking in for the dexa scan I was left sitting in dressing area more than 40 minutes, so it was well after 2pm. When I asked about the delay I was curtly told, "we're getting to you". As a result of these delays I had to pay an additional $3.99 parking fee both days. Patients have a choice for diagnostic services, if Solis/Women's Hospital doesn't care enough to hire and appropriately train staff I assure you other providers do.

Now 6 years cancer free after receiving excellent care and treatment at MDA…read more About 10 years ago a cousin who had been receiving cancer treatment at a facility in New York was about to go into pain-care-only after they had essentially "given up" on her. On a recommendation of a friend her family took her to MD Anderson for treatment. Now 10 years later her cancer is in full remission. There is a reason patients come to MDA from all over the world.

First off, I went to MD Anderson with a recent cancer diagnosis. They were supposed to be my…read moreprimary doctors that would work hand in hand with my local cancer center. However they assigned me a team of oncologists who were NOT licensed for treatment of a patient from the state of Arkansas. They all thought that AR was Arizona and not Arkansas. I had already performed all the tests at my local oncologist like an MRI, PET scans, urinalysis, bone marrow biopsy, etc.... But they told me that it was their policy that I "had to" go through all of the same procedures in case they found anything wrong. I was 5 weeks into learning that I had blood cancer and had never been in a hospital before this experience. So they practically forced me to do everything again at a cost of over $3,000 after the insurance process. They then scheduled my follow up appointments with the doctor so we could determine my schedule for treatment. This was all scheduled in their app and was to be the first of many phone/video calls with my primary oncologist. The day came for my appointment and the doctor was 3 hours late to call me. My son had a basketball game that evening so we decided to drive there and hopefully the doctor would call me while we were on the road. He did call and asked me what I was doing so I told him I was driving to Tulsa OK for my son's game. He said that was way too far away from Arizona for a high school basketball game. I said it was just a 1.5 hours late trip from my house. He then said, no, you live in Arizona, you know ... AR. I said that I could be wrong but my 3rd grade American geography teacher told me AR was Arkansas. He said hold on.... Took 30 seconds to move around some paper on his desk, placed me on hold for another minute. Then he said that he didn't have a license to practice in Arkansas and he would have to cut the call short. I told him that my address never changed from the driver's license I gave them during the registration process and has always shown Arkansas. He laughed it off and said that he's not from America and he didn't take the same American geography class, but I should find another doctor as my primary oncologist because he would no longer be able to or willing to treat me. He then said that I should go to UAMS if I live in Arkansas... they have a cancer center up there. Fast-forward 3 months.... I disputed the bills with MD Anderson to no avail and they said it's not their problem to verify any information where a patient is coming from or who treats them. It's the patient's responsibility to know that from the beginning. It's ridiculous that their staff would expect a patient that is newly diagnosed with cancer to know that they would have to pull the licenses of every doctor that they are about to meet and work with to make sure that their license to be treating a patient from the state that they reside in. I also asked them where was the documentation that stated I needed to do this because they had plenty of documentation in the registration process that verified a whole lot of other items but nothing on being assigned a doctor that was licensed to treat the patient. Bottom line.... If you have a choice, please go to ANY other hospital and/or cancer center than this joke of a place. I'm my experience they only care about the money and immediately kicked me to the curb when they found out that I was not a steady paycheck for them and their industry. Just so you know, I never heard from the doctor again never got a card from them that said sorry we can't serve you or your needs. Just a bunch of bills that now I have to pay twice for because I had to do tests at the UAMS Center because they wouldn't even work with me to get all of my records in a timely manner. Yet they want to bill me for all of these tests that they didn't even use to help me fight my cancer. Again, all they're interested in is money and not the patient. I am now being treated at UAMS Little Rock and have had the most amazing experience that a person could have consider considering it's dealing with cancer treatment . The staff, the nurses the security the doctors are all amazing and I would never choose a different hospital. Please please please stay clear of MD Anderson, and go anywhere else.

They told me how they were going to work together to get me into the specialist I was trying to see. Essentially, they were gatekeeping. They explained to me that the condition I was trying to be evaluated for was not curable and that there's no magic pill. I was not looking for meds. Just an evaluation by the specialist I appointed to see. The doctor, before he ran for help, did a quick visual test for my suspected condition, then asks me if I have pain. I said normal amount, but I'm used to it. He asks why I've not been to physical therapy. I couldn't even get my full sentence out before he left and came back with a superior. I started to say I was afraid of cost...but the only words I said was I'm afraid...and he frantically left. Came back with a superior and another man resident or nurse I'm not sure what the young man does. Coulda been a resident. Anyway. They told me it would be a few weeks to get the appt because typically, it's "difficult" to see the specialist I'm trying to see. That's when they were telling me how there's no medication for this. That's when I told them I'm not searching for meds, I just want to find out what I'm living with so I can learn how to have a better life. I was thinking the appt went okay other than the weird reaction where the doctor left and came back. I really thought they were going to get me into the specialist. But a few days later, on my patient portal, this doctor basically tells me they can't do anything and to contact my pcp. Wait, what??? Ya... nothing else. As a patient, it seems that the medical industry just wants to keep the people sick. They don't even want the patient to get on the right foot or they won't get anymore business. That's what it feels like anyway. Is this the type of mindset HHS has?
