If I could give a 0 I would. You just cant trust what people tell you. Where do I start. I sent a letter of complaint to Mr. Jonathan Watts regarding my treatment by one of his employees at the Bethesda location on 9/4/18. My hope was to have this issue dealt with without posting it socially. Unfortunately, the lack of response by Mr. Watts, his regional director and/or employee resulting in letting people know about this company. One Way Valet can not be trusted and employs individuals who seem to be racists. Here's what happened,
On 9/4/18, I was approached by one of your employees (he did not give me his name- later found out his name is Giles) and he indicated that I could not park in that area. I explained to him that I lived in the building. I further explained that I been parking in the same area for the past few weeks. He indicated that the area in which I was parked was for valet only. I told him that there weren't any signs indicating valet only. I suggested that he talked to his manager to see if he could get signs put up. Without the signs, I, along with my other neighbors, can park anywhere we choose.
I walked away, as I was tired and didn't want to further talk to him. He then proceeded to take pictures of my car and take down my tag number. I asked him what he was doing and he would not answer. I explained, AGAIN, that I pay for parking on that specific level and that there are no signs that indicate that the parking space are for valet only. He ignored me and continued to take my tag number. He said he was going to report it.
He over stepped his position as well as used poor judgement when addressing the situation. Even after, there is no evidence of an infraction, he refused to apologize. At this point, I am not sure if it is his job is "police" the parking spaces. Not only am I very disappointed at how things transpired, I can only question whether or not he does this to all of my neighbors who park on the 2 level or was his actions targeted towards me specifically. Either way, I was harassed by his employee. After learning that there was no evidence of infraction, he should have left the situation alone. Instead, he took my tag number down. I am concerned at what he is going to do with my tag number and my vehicle.
I am not sure what their policy is around customer service and whether or not their employees are required to "police" the parking spaces and report individuals who they think dont belong in that parking garage.
This place need to train their employee on how to interact with people and some Implicit bias class wouldn't hurt as well (especially in light of the current state of our society around race). I do believe that my race had everything to do with his need to take on "policing" role and tell me to move my car so that he can park.
Unfortunately, your employee did not give me the "perfect impression" about your company. One Way Valet tagline is "YOUR GUESTS' FIRST & LAST IMPRESSION SHOULD BE PERFECT" My first impression and last impression is very bad and I will let everyone know about my treatment.
Questions people who are in the business of a valet company need to ask: Is this typical behavior of all of their employees? Is this the first time it has happened? Will he treat the other customers the same way? Will all complaints go on deaf ear - as my complaint has. I still see Giles parking cars and he has not apologized for his behavior. He is a reflection of what management condones, unapologetic behavior of its employees, and ignoring customer complaints. Management is un-fazed by the behavior of its employees. I do not recommend anyone to hire this company. The management condones the behavior of its employees who harass individuals. read more
