I think of it as more of a farm supply store, but it is also considered a department store. They carry sporting goods, items for dogs and cats, hardware, lawn chairs, large trash cans, toys for children, seasonal decor, etc. I remember seeing a lot of jerky and rare candy as well as funny and unique refrigerator magnets and greeting cards. From the things I browsed, I think most items were reasonably priced. Their patio furniture and dollies in particular were priced as low or better than elsewhere I've looked. I was in searching for supplies to put a barrier underneath my privacy fencing, and while they had a lot of options including mesh you'd dig a trench for, I didn't end up getting anything to tackle that project because I'm not sure of what solution, if any, to use for my dilemma... I did, however, grab a large stainless steel water bowl for my dogs which my cats also like to use. It was somewhat reasonable at around. I can't say the quality is the absolute best as it has an indentation that revealed itself at some point which looks like a small hole at the bottom but doesn't appear to pierce all the way through. It becomes slightly rusty on the underside, so I believe it may have a tiny slow leak. I'm not sure. The size of the bowl is perfect though. I have found it difficult to find the size I need online or inside other stores. I liked this store much better than what is available in Peru but prefer a similar store in Rochester. Not crowded. A little difficult to locate what I needed but found help for that eventually a couple times. The checker was pleasant. Plenty of shopping carts. Clean. I don't know that I'd go out of my way to make a special trip back anytime soon, but it's a good small town shopping option to me. I would keep it in mind for the future.

This spaces oozes warm and creativity. From the inviting front porch overlooking pedestrians to the lofty attic overlooking the studio below. It's such a cute spot! We had a handful of kids with us so we quickly went about selecting our items to paint and getting down to business. I appreciated that they had booster seats available for toddlers to participate - gamechanger! I was surprised that the experience was a little pricier than what I'm used to in Indy - they charge a per head studio fee here in addition to the pottery selections which can quickly add up. We opted for a bowl, easter egg and cupcake to paint. They also had a variety of ornaments, seasonal decor and kid-friendly designs to choose from. The overall paint and pottery section was very well-organized. Better yet, this is all located a block from the canal and a great coffee shop. Recipe for a perfect morning!

I love that you have options when you come here - (1) you can either make something with clay (on a wheel or just at a normal table with a hunk of it to make something with), and then you come back to paint it and they will glaze it to finish it off (2)You can pick one of the ready-to-paint items on the shelves or (3) you can actually make glass plates. Be aware that if you paint anything, you will have to wait for it to be fired and come back within a few weeks to pick it up again. It is a good idea to call ahead if you plan on going in with any more than 1 or 2 people to make sure they have space at their tables, but it's usually not that big of an issue unless you're going around a holiday. If you want to do something with glass or the pottery wheel, you will need to schedule for that. They offer student discounts here for anyone with a student ID and often have seasonal pieces on sale near the end of the season. They also have a little rewards punch card and every $10 you get a hole punched - once the card is full you get 15% off your next visit. If you aren't able to go in during normal hours, they do give people the option to come on Wednesday's between 6-9, which is really nice. Absolutely love this little gem place.

Some items do cost more than competing hardware, big box, and online options, but you won't get the type of service this Do It Best store offers at those other places, and some things are actually a far better value. Their complimentary popcorn is a must! :) This hardware store is a bit out of my way, but I've chosen them a few times so far because I prefer how I'm treated here over what is closest to me. Plus, they have little shopping carts with cup holders. This is especially the place for you if you're a little lost when it comes to hardware. They make keys in a jiffy, too. The manager (B.H.) was helpful far beyond my expectations. He organized the shipping and was very communicative about everything. I wanted to give him a tip but he refused many times and later texted me a nice message: "someone came into the store with a T-shirt that said 'Kindness is Free'. That is how I roll." What a great guy and manager! I feel so lucky and happy, as a total stranger, to have been given this friendly treatment. Thank you.
