this is honestly the worst nail salon I've ever been to. I only went there because Kate Nails, in the same mall, is closed on Sundays and I completely forgot. I showed up without an appointment to get my eyebrows done. I also needed my nails and toes done, but since my aunt caught a serious infection at this place (and still has to apply Polysporin till this day), I decided to only do my eyebrows and wait until the weekday for the rest.
I had already tried this salon before and the nails don't even last a week, so I had already crossed it off my list. But I was too lazy to drive all the way to Fairview just for my eyebrows.
They asked me to wait, which is fair. While waiting, I watched the woman who was supposed to serve me perform a full pedicure WITHOUT gloves, using a foot file to remove dead skin, the whole thing. When it was finally my turn, I simply asked if she could wash her hands before touching my face.
That's when everything blew up. She started yelling at me, saying that if I wasn't comfortable, she didn't have to serve me and I could leave. I explained that my request was completely reasonable, especially after her hands had been in foot water the entire time. She wouldn't stop yelling. I told her this was basic hygiene, especially since she was about to touch my face.
She claimed she had washed her hands, but she only had a brown paper towel in her hands. Maybe she splashed a bit of water, but there's no way she properly washed her hands with soap in 2 seconds the client she was serving was still there! Because I couldn't understand everything due to her accent, I said "I don't understand," and she then told me, she didn't feel well, refused to do my eyebrows, and told me to leave.
All of this just because I asked her to wash her hands after doing a pedicure without gloves. LIKE WHO DOES THAT!
I asked to speak to the owner, who said something like, "Maybe she didn't like how you asked" (even though I asked politely, was i supposed to beg her), and then told me to leave in a disrespectful manner, worst than the original lady.
This place clearly has serious hygiene issues. They do not properly clean or disinfect their tools between clients -- which is exactly how my aunt got her infection. On top of that, simply asking them to wash their hands before touching a client's face gets you kicked out.
I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE AT ALL.
They also always demand cash payments, forcing clients to withdraw money from the TD ATM in the mall even though they have a debit machine, clearly to avoid declaring all their income. I reported this to the CRA for tax fraud and requested them to get repeatedly audited, filed a complaint with Health and Safety Québec, and am now contacting the body that issued their license!
This is dangerous for public health. I have never gone this far or pulled a so-called "Karen move," but this place needs to be investigated. A file is already open, and I encourage anyone who experienced similar situations to report them as well.
They have no respect for their clients and think they can treat people however they want without consequences. Unfortunately for them, they picked the wrong person. I will continue to follow up and push these complaints forward.
I also reported that their name on Google and social media is not the same as the one displayed in the mall (Folie Ongle), likely because they accumulated too many bad reviews under their real name and decided to start over.
I've lived in Lachine for 20 years. This is a small salon that relies on locals to survive, and I will make sure people know how dirty and unprofessional this place is. Seriously what kind of salon reacts like this when someone simply asks them to wash their hands?! How dirty!! read more
