To give you an idea of how wonderful our stay was, I have not written a Yelp review in almost two…read moreyears, but felt so compelled to share and spread the word about this place that I came back just to write about how amazing our stay was. My two friends and I wanted to take a little mini getaway to get some snowboarding at Granite Peak (4 hours from Chicago) and spent quite a bit of time looking at hotels around the area. I stumbled upon this bed and breakfast, and can confidently say it is one of the best hidden gems that I'm glad I found. First off, it is only 15 minutes to Granite Peak and the price is comparable a lot of the hotels in the area. We stayed in the River Suite, which was the whole upstairs and had a bedroom with a balcony and an adjoining sitting room that had a queen Murphy bed and it's own mini fridge. I'm pretty sure there's a fireplace in each room. The whole space is amazing as it sits along the river and the large windows, both in the suite and the living area, offer great views. With a little snowfall it really had that cozy winter feel. The place is only a few years old so everything was very modern. The downstairs common area had a full kitchen, a pool table, large tv (with Roku), and comfy couches/blankets to hang. There's a sauna that we took advantage of after a long day boarding. Both nights we were there we made dinner and hung out in the common area watching football, playing pool, kicked back some drinks, and cuddled with their dog. Full disclosure, we were the only rentals for those two nights and the two other rooms (Willow and Birch) are also downstairs, so I'm sure it would've been a different experience and we would not have been as comfortable or been able to hangout as freely down there if other occupants were also there. The best part of our two night stay had to be the hospitality of Dan and Margaret. Easy to communicate, accommodating, and super friendly. Margaret is quite the baker, we could not stop eating her ginger snap cookies. The first night we were there Dan brought down some of his fig infused vodka for us to enjoy. They didn't have to (as their website says three course breakfast on weekends and complementary continental breakfast during the week days), but they offered and made us breakfast both mornings. Happy they sat down and ate with us that second day. If you haven't gotten the point, this is the perfect little getaway and a must stay if you're going to make it out in the area. Dave waited up for us to come in at 9pm and was so welcoming showing us to our room. The building is so cool and obviously has a lot of history. The floors and stairs are creaky so I was worried we would hear lots of noises in the night but I didn't hear anything from the other rooms at all. The bed was quite comfortable but the blinds did let in quite a bit of light from the street. Shared a bathroom with other guests on the floor. My husband enjoyed the breakfast buffet and chatting with other guests while I was running. The owners were flexible with checkout time so I could come back and shower. It was like staying in a friend's home. Definitely a b&b experience, if you are looking for a sterile keep-to-yourself experience, you might prefer a hotel.

It was just big enough for the tub and toilet. The washcloths were thick and towels adequate. I have stayed at some Hotels where the washcloths were thread thin. The sink area was in the entry way by the door. Toilet paper and Kleenex were almost like tar paper. The bed was just comfortable enough but the pillows sucked. Our second night here I had won a blanket throw at the convention and rolled that up for a pillow. It was more comfortable. Both nights my sheet and mattress pad were pulled off the bed by my head when I woke up. They just would not stay on the mattress. We decided we may just start packing our own tp and Kleenex a d pillow. We stayed here because we were attending a convention next door to the hotel. We travel a lot so we are in a lot of mandated hotels for convention so we can compare. My husband visited the free breakfast area the first morning and reported it was cereal and toast. We usually stay in Hampton Inns when traveling on our own and there is no comparison. I would say Hampton Inn is an 8 with this hotel being a 3. But I know price wise it was $75 Vs $100+ so if your looking for low rates Vs comfort, this is your hotel. The room was very clean and the lobby area inviting and decorated nicely. Carpet is well kept up and looked newer. Our check in was friendly and fast. There wasn't anyone at the front desk when we left at 8 am. But I know that lately the front desk staff are doing everything from laundry to small repairs etc. This hotel is conveniently connected to the bowling alley by a sidewalk. This makes it convenient for going back and forth to a convention at the bowling alley. That sounds a little weird but the bowling alley is high with wings/spaces for conventions, weddings etc. as they also have their own catering. Bottom line, if I were to stay here again I would Bring my own tp, tissue and pillow and soap/shampoo.

The rooms are not huge by any stretch, but plenty big enough to have some space and feel comfortable. It is also surprisingly quiet here given the motel is located on one of the busiest streets in Wausau. This place has been a good relaxing expirence for me and the manager lady has been more than accomodating. She has been friendly and helpful. I most definetly will come back if im ever in Wausau again. Plus perkins and taco bell are across the street. Anyway this is definetly one of the better low end motels in wisconsin. If youre looking for a budget motel id give this place a chance.
