This hotel is undergoing a renovation and the half that is already complete is great. Rooms are modern, clean, and spacious. But the real standout here is the staff. Lauretta at the bistro and Noah at the check-in desk and bar at night were both incredibly friendly. They went above and beyond in almost every interaction I had with them. This hotel is fine but nothin great. One annoying part of my room was the shower temperature was extremely sensitive -- there was basically one spot where it wasn't either too hot or too cold. The "bar" is very small and might as well be the fridge in the market. The one thing worth mentioning is the bistro staff. There were a number of food options including some ready to go yogurt and fruit packs. The manager was very friendly and packed everything up for you if you were in the go. She also included some extra utensils to allow you to more easily stir things together. Very friendly and helpful all three days we were there. The main competition in the past has been the Hampton Inn so interested to see how the new HGI impacts this place. read more

Great staff at this location. Was in town for the funeral of the relative. When Dan (the General Manager) found out, he reduced all our room rates to their funeral rate. I didn't even know that such a rate existed and he wouldn't have had to reduce them, but he did and it was a very nice gesture and meant a lot during a very difficult time. Will return to this hotel when in Wausau just to support a business that actually cares. read more

We stayed at Courtyard during our ski trip to Granite Peak. This is a great location for stay if you plan to ski or visit Wausau in general. Hotel staff was super friendly, hotel was clean, the location is perfect, close to main highway and only 5 minutes or so from Granite Peak. The only complain I have is their heating system is quite loud, sounds like the a jet engine in the night but it might have been just our room. They serve quite good breakfast down at the hall where Starbucks coffee is. If we go next time this will be our hotel spot for sure. read more

The hotel is not bad. Seemed fairly clean and the staff was the best part, as they were super nice and helpful. Outstanding staff. Also, it is 5 minutes or less from Granite Peak, so if you are here for that, it is a great option. It is also near tons of restaurants. In fact right next door is an ok brew pub. We paid for the breakfast with our room. Well worth it. It was very good. Our biggest issue was the shower. The head was crappy and did not flow well. Needs an update. Also, there is something wrong with the water temperature at this hotel. Seems minor until you don't have a nice hot shower. We later heard that the entire hotel water temperature is tied to their pool jacuzzi. So if the jacuzzi is kept hot, then the hotel doesn't have hot showers and vice versa. Sorry guys, that is unacceptable. Time for a plumbing over haul. This is so irritating, when you are spending $200 night, that for this reason alone, I would hesitate to stay here again and also to recommend. Otherwise, pretty decent. read more

Had an unexpected trip into Wassau, WI when a family member needed to stay at the Asprius hospital's cardiac ward. Showed up at the Marriott late in the evening without a reservation and they had room for a sibling and I. Playing the hospital game, we had no idea how long we'd be staying in the area - generally, most hotels don't like that kind of uncertainty. This Courtyard, however, worked with us on extremely late check out times each day, a hospital discounted rate and erratic rebookings of the same room. Ended up staying an entire week. Beyond being incredibly flexible with our fluid schedule, the staff, led by Angel, was amazing. Very friendly, helpful and genuine. Cannot say enough good things about Angel and team. Three additional family members flew in from other areas and were given rooms near mine; also with last-minute bookings. The staff was quick to point out places to eat, etc. in the area. All winners. (Speaking of, the Great Dane next door is really good). The girls running the hotel bar were also awesome. Long, grueling hospital days were somewhat offset by a smiling face and a stiff drink by the end of the night - the bartenders provided all of the above. Just wish the bar stayed open a bit later. For the little time spent in the room, it was clean, had a comfy bed, instant hot water and decent wifi. It was also pretty quiet. Thank you, Marriott, for providing some stability to a chaotic week. Will definitely stay here every time I'm in the Wassau area moving forward. read more

Had a last minute business trip to do in the Wausau area and wasn't sure which Marriott to choose from. Well let me tell you this place was a great pick. The staff is amazing, Seth was very helpful with my late night arrival and aware of my long drive. He made recommendations for dinner ideas and then the morning staff and manager Angel where just top notch. I had checked out and sat in the lobby taking care of last minute emails and calls and the manager stopped by and asked if I would like coffee or water and if there was anything else I needed. The staff made me feel welcomed and not rushed and really made an impact and impression on me. I will definitely stay here again if ever in the area for business or personal travels. read more

Was here on business for three nights and had an excellent stay. The bed was comfortable and had a couple different pillows on it and I didn't realize it the first night so I slept on one that was a little to firm for my taste, but the next two nights were great when I figured it out! Room was pretty spacious. I had two double beds so I worked on one and slept on the other! All the electronics were in working order, and bathroom was clean. The gym had basic equipment: two treadmills, one elliptical and some free weights. Towels and water are available. Everything was in good condition. The staff was always kind and courteous. I especially enjoyed talking to the very nice woman at the cafe counter daily. On two of the mornings I had to grab my breakfast to go and she made sure I had everything I needed. You have the option of foregoing turndown service for reward points. I normally opt out anyway so this was an added bonus! read more

Stayed here for a skiing weekend and the staff was super pleasant. Check in/out was efficient. Only concern was two pop cans we found when first getting to our room, alongside the bed on the floor. My husband said they had chewing tobacco in them. Ew. Otherwise, our room was clean and quiet at night. Comfortable bed with fridge in the room. I have to say I've never been treated so well when staying at a hotel and not just by any one staff member, it was by every single person that we encountered from the front desk, maintenance staff, the bar and the kitchen. They also source their own vendors for food and don't have carry out containers to bring back food to the room. Must be privately owned. My husband travels a lot to the point he is a Lifetime rewards member at the highest level through Marriott. He was here on a work trip and I decided to come along for the drive, with my service dog. We have traveled together for 7 years with a service dog, not once have we been questioned like we were at this hotel. We came in late at night and almost stayed somewhere else. My husband was extremely mad and wanted to leave. I was tired and wanted to rest immediately so I went back in to speak to the lady at the front desk who had given him a hard time about my service dog. I know the ADA 1991 pretty well. And she was asking questions she should not have been asking. She stated that some people come in with fake service dogs and tore things up and that is why she asked what she did. She obviously did not look at my husbands status, profile or ask the right question. We stayed here because the outdoors was nice and had a great place for me to walk my service dog. However, we will not stay here again. It really wasn't nice enough for my service dog. The rooms were small, dated, and dark. The bathroom area was tiny. The only thing good about our room was we were near an exit and I didn't have to walk past the front desk every time I wanted to take my service dog out. Since checking out, I am sure you know that the room was probably left cleaner than what we found it and we didn't have service one day. I would recommend the Manager Daniel Burg educate himself and his staff on the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1991. Not all disabilities are visible. I am giving this a 2 because the outdoors were maintained well and a nice place to walk, otherwise, it would receive a 1. No one should have been treated the way we were with our service dog. Especially a lifetime member who has frequented the Marriott hotels as much as we have. read more

The breakfasts were great and the bistro staff, Nicole and Lauretta, were absolutely amazing! They made everyone in our family feel special. The pool and hot tub area were nice and maintained. If you are looking for Marriott hotel in the area, go with Fairfield Marriott in westmon. It just a few miles away but such a better option. We stayed In Fairfield Marriott westmon a few times and always we're pleased with their service,clean and nice looking rooms and delicious breakfasts. this time decided to upgrade to to courtyard Marriott . But it was define was a wrong decision ,even so it costed 20% more - it feels as it was downgrade. the place is severely outdated , with worn-out furniture and no breakfast , only cheap version of coffee . Definitely we are not coming back here with all resect to this hotel chain. read more

The hotel seems to have been remodeled very recently as Courtyard introduces their new look and feel to the lobby. Many more choices for breakfast and dinner than before. The room that I was in also seems to have been upgraded or remodeled and included a nice flat screen tv, microwave and fridge. Very enjoyable and made the work trip manageable read more

We came for the weekend and based on our experience I would highly recommend this hotel. I was using my Marriott Rewards points so the stay was free; because we weren't "paying" customers my expectations weren't very high for what room we would get or how we would be treated by the staff. We were pleasantly surprised! We saw a large (loud) party check in right before us and asked if we could have a room far from that group. The employee who helped us, Tao, was very accomodating and put us in a room on the first floor. Tao also helped us when we were deliberating over what restaurant to have lunch at. He is such a great person to have working with the public because he is friendly, knowledgable and just has great people skills. We were pretty impressed with the hotel. Like the other reviewers commented, it seems like it recently went through a complete makeover and everything looks brand new. We didnt use the fitness room or the pool, but both seemed very nice. The fitness room had about 4 cardio machines and a complete weight set with bench press. It looked very clean. There is free coffee in the lobby, (tastes just like every hotel's free coffee) but we treated ourselves to the Starbucks in the eating area in the hotel. The menu had a pretty good variety of breakfast items to choose from, healthy items to hearty items. We didn't try the food. The prices on the menu were pretty typical of a hotel, but maybe a bit higher than other places in central WI. We loved our room. It had a much higher ceiling than I expected (10 ft maybe), which made the room seem very elegant. The heating and cooling came from a duct high up on the wall which we thought was nice. In hotels that have the heating and cooling by the window, it seems to not evenly distribute the air (whichever side of the bed is by the radiator gets all the heat/cool). The room darkening curtains worked really well, and unlike in some hotels, you could actually get them to meet in the middle without a gap. The desk in the room was nice and big so we both could keep our laptops on there and plugged in. The wireless connection was fantastic! Very fast and we never lost connection. We have had issues at other hotels so in comparison this was great. The flat screen TV was nice as was having a small frig and microwave. Bathroom was clean and nice, but not great. There was no fan and no lighting over the shower. Not sure if this is typical or we just got lucky, but we were pleasantly surprised at how few times we could hear our neighbor. There is a good restaurant right next door to the hotel and lots of places to go within a five mile radius of the hotel. We would definitely stay here again. read more

This Courtyard exceeded our expectations for a family fun weekend at Granite Peak. The kids enjoyed the pool and hot tub. They also enjoyed the breakfast in the morning and the latte was much appreciated. The staff was really nice and they all are very high service minded! They recommended a good pizza place for delivery. We got a great room as we have Platinum status. The Platinum person before us had smoked in the bathroom (not cool), and if you are wondering, no the fan does not work for eliminating cigarette smoke. The staff really tried to clean the room well, opened the windows in Feb. and even cleaned the walls with a solution. Sadly you could still smell the smoke but they did the best they could to try to fix the problem. Thank you, we will be back for another ski weekend! read more

So, I may be the only person on the planet who stays in a Wausau hotel with any frequency. But on the off-chance that someone else actually needs to spend a night in Wausau sometime, I highly recommend the Courtyard by Marriott. The rooms are spacious, complete with a couch, desk and FREE internet. Yes, I said free! Free is my favorite price, and the internet is my favorite passtime! I have stayed here several times as I come here with some frequency on business, and today when I came in they had finished their remodeling project. This is noteworthy because now on the main floor there is a BAR! Next to my favorite passtime of surfing ye olde 'net, drinking cocktails is a very close second! Other perks include a decent pool, lots of fluffy pillows, a bistro with breakfast and dinner options, easy freeway access without freeway noise, and a Great Dane Brew Pub that is only a few yards away. I love me some Courtyard by Marriott. For real. read more

I have to caveat this by saying that I'm typically a hotel snob in the sense that I travel a lot for work and get to stay in some really nice places (on somebody else's dime). Normally, Courtyard by Marriott would not be in my list of places to stay, but since this was on my own dime and very close to the ski slopes, we got a room for 3 nights here. From the very minute we walked into the front door, we were greeted with the highest grade of customer service. Not the kind where you feel like these people are trained and forced to be nice, but the actual, genuine, sincere kindness that comes from the hotel hiring really nice, sweet and caring people who just really want to bend over backwards to make your stay enjoyable. Upon arrival, we realized we had forgotten all of our toiletries (packing in haste). We were heading out to find a local drugstore to replace everything when the front desk attendant insisted he had everything we needed. From a razor to shaving cream, to toothpaste, toothbrush and deodorant, he had travel-size versions of everything...FREE. It really saved us a lot of trouble and inconvenience, especially after being on the road for 4 hours. The last thing we wanted to do was get back in the car and try to find a drug store at 11pm. As I mentioned, we are skiers. We had a ton of gear that we had to lug into the hotel with us. They found us carts and helped us get it all packed-in for an easy stroll to our room. For breakfast, the bistro has some really good coffee and food items that they will accept substitutions on without any hassles. Overall, a great stay. The rooms weren't the quality of a Westin or a Ritz, but neither are the prices. It's also very close to Granite Peak, so a ski weekend can be done very affordably and efficiently by using Courtyard by Marriott. And did I mention, the staff is so freaking nice? Great hotel! I havent stayed at any other hotels in the area, but this is a very nice marriott. I had no troubles during my stay. Great little food area if you need something quick and healthy and slightly overpriced. Nice gym area, nice rooms, very quiet. Very slow elevator, but thats not really anything to complain about. Great staff. Great check out ease. Optional fridge and microwave in the room, but they also have a microwave near the food area in case your room did not get one. Nice flat screen tv, nice beds. Stayed here last week. The staff at the front desk when we arrived at 3 PM were fantastic! Both young men were friendly, offered suggestions for dinner. They were pleased we had taken their recommendation and even inquired when we returned as to what we had eaten, and how we liked the 2510 Restaurant. We really felt welcomed to the hotel! Our room was neat & clean; TV great and the Bistro was great! We enjoyed our breakfast there and wished we were staying at the Courtyard longer.
