We made a last minute decision to get a couple rooms here, and this place was great. A little on the pricey side but this may be because of our short notice reservation. Visited Wausau for a few days of skiing this past winter break. Made reservations online via the Hilton Honors program. Was able to pick my room a day before check-in. Upon arrival I was greeted by the staff at the front desk and had a room key in less than 60 seconds. That's the fastest check-in in recorded history. Room was small but very nice. They put a personalized welcome sign on the mini fridge in my room. A small rubber duck greeted me in the bathroom (he was seated on the tub). A lovely framed picture of cows added to the decor. Pool is small and I did not use it. Vending area was solid. Good working ice machine and microwave available for guest use. Hot coffee and tea in the lobby was complimentary along with fresh fruit (apples). Check-out was a breeze. I exited the hotel and found the employees had brushed snow from everyone's vehicles. Nice. Hotel is also located next to interstate. It's not the Ritz but it's a good hotel and a good value. I would recommend to anyone visiting Wausau. read more

Super clean and modern. Our family was passing through town, and had a great stay here. Breakfast is included, and it's fine. Better than average for included breakfasts at hotels. The nightly rate was around $150 with taxes and fees. We had some points to use, so ended up being $104. I've stayed in many 5 Star, $400+ per night, big city luxury hotels that were not nearly as spotless. Would pick this place over almost all of them. Staff is also very friendly and were very nice to my kids. Parking situation was also perfect. We were able to park just outside of a side door near our room - maybe a 15 second walk. Rented a room which was advertised to sleep 5. It does not. It sleeps 4.There are 2 queen beds and a rollaway will not fit in the room. Also, rented an accessible room and I want to caution persons with disabilities, rooms listed as accessible do not seem to meet ADA standards. This room is NOT accessible. I was told at the front desk there is nothing that can be done. Deep within online policies, after several clicks, you will find there is a $75, non-refundable pet fee. It's a hampton in, which means nothing fancy. it's good for a work overnighter as they provide a bed desk as well as a random type of rubber duck to bring home to the kids.. food was a little better than continental. I usually stay at hilton properties because they use the same softer sheets and bed linens with a thick comforter as I have a hard time falling asleep and I'm frequently jet lagged... Traveling through Wausau and have always had good luck staying at other Hampton Inns. Other local hotels are sold out so I felt fortunate staying where I did. Until I arrived. Construction at the main door forced me to literally walk around construction vehicles and debris to the back door. The fitness center was closed and they did not comp another fitness center in town only offered a discount. The website did not mention anything about being under construction and I still ended up paying full price for the hotel. Being a HHonors member I was a little surprised that they did not at least offer some type of a points compensation for all the noise and inconvenience at this hotel. A pair of your earplugs awaited me in my room :(. Give it a couple weeks and I'm sure it will be very nice. However, I would not recommend this place for a couple weeks at least until construction is completely done. read more

Very nice hotel. Clean and spacious rooms. Refrigerator, and Wifi make it comfy. Only problem was our television kept switching back to the menu to buy movies. I want to watch a show, not have to keep switching channels... Hopefully their maintenance can fix the problem, and I'll update this review tomorrow. read more

I checked into the hotel at 2am with my 5 year old and 2 year old. Customer service was top notch! I wish I would have gotten his name but he was so friendly and quick!! He even asked if I needed a wake up call! Nobody asks that anymore. The room was spotless and smelled clean! Breakfast was top notch!!! They had apple juice, milk, orange juice, apples, oranges, bananas, all types of breads, waffles all the add ins, cereal, yogurt, scrambled eggs, maple kielbasa sausage, oatmeal, biscuits and gravy you name it!!! It was amazing and GOOD! 5 star in my book! read more

Yes, this place is a little on the pricier side (~$150/night) but it's a great place to stay the weekend. If you're looking for a super modern hotel, this isn't going to be your kind of place, but this place is traditional modern luxury if that makes sense. The pictures make it seem more dated than it actually is. Friendly staff, very quick on check in (they already have your room picked out for you, so it literally takes 2 minutes to check in), clean hotel, clean hotel room, swimming pool, hot tub, Neutrogena bathroom products. Good enough breakfast is included. They make a good use of their space in the lobby for a smaller hotel. The only things that could've made the stay better - free bottles of water and faster elevator. Other than that, easy parking, central location (5m from Granite Peak), quiet. This is more of a family-friendly hotel though so if you're looking for a hotel bar or party central, don't stay here. I liked it for a peaceful ski weekend away. read more

Sometimes the smallest things can make a difference in your experience...at any business. I stayed at this hotel for a weekend. I'm glad my friend booked this hotel because I wouldn't have picked it because it is a little pricey (over $140), but the room was super nice and clean ,and the desk staff were very friendly. Breakfast was pretty normal with fruit, yogurt, bagels, waffle maker. They did rotate between sausage patties and kielbasa, and eggs and breakfast potatoes. Besides all of that being great, there were just little things that I noticed that made my stay more enjoyable. When I walked in the bathroom of my room there was a little rubber ducky sitting on the bathtub...don't asked me why but it made me smile. The coffee cups had either a mustache or big lips printed on them. My coffee cup holder had a pearl necklace. Again how does that put a smile on your face. Last but not least was the bananas. When getting breakfast, each banana a little message written on it, like "Good morning sunshine" and "Have an awesome day." It was those little things that will make me remember the positive experience I had at this hotel. I wish I would of had a banana and wrote thank you on it when I left. read more

I was in town for my brother's funeral. There where 2 different groups of juvenile boys sports teams in the hotel. While there were "house rules" posted and quite hours were to begin at 10pm. By 11pm there were still kids talking loudly and running in the hallways. We did call and complain about the kids outside around the fire pit making too much noise. My recommendation would be, if you are not going to sell out the hotel with the sports teams, at least put them all in their own area. My Mom made the reservation and if it wasn't for that I would have gone to a different hotel. The room was basic, clean, and bed fairly comfortable. My 3 stars are more about how they managed the kids. read more

I've stayed at more Hampton Inn's than I care to admit, and for the most part, they are all basically the same. Sometimes a few of them go fancy and you get a mouthwash along with your shampoo, conditioner, and lotion. At this Wausau location, they have stepped their game up. Super friendly staff and they not only do they send you up to your room with a water (small gesture) they offered us one at breakfast without having to ask, again, it's the little things. What REALLY set them over the top for me is the fact that I left a item in the room and without even realizing it, they had already reached out to inform me. Then (yes there's a then) they shipped it out to my house free of charge, no questions asked. Exceeded expectations. I was so very impressed with the staff and this hotel. I stay in many hotels for work and this one blew me away. The staff was utterly amazing and wanted to help make my stay great. The room impressed me as well. Finally! I have stayed in 20 hotels in the last month... this was the only one that followed through and emailed my receipt. Queen beds didn't seem like a normal size queen but we've found that at most hotels that advertise queen beds. We've stayed here several times and will be back. read more

I've stayed at this place more times than I can count, and every time I've had a great experience. I can hardly think of anything to complain about. The entire interior is freshly renovated and looks great. The decor in the rooms is very pleasant and much nicer than most chain motels. It's kind of tacky that they have the same cow picture in every room, though. The pool is a little small but if you wanted a waterpark, you'd stay at the Cedar Creek resort. The exercise room is a little small but that's not unexpected either. All the guest rooms have free Wifi, which is not uncommon these days but is still a nice touch. The breakfast is excellent as far as continental breakfasts go. There's always a hot item available, usually something like eggs or french toast sticks. I usually stick with bagels and English muffins, which are always good. During the winter ski season there is often trouble finding a seat in the breakfast area, but I don't have a problem taking my food up to my room. Any complaints I might have are totally and utterly negated by the beds. The beds are hellishly comfy. I always go right to sleep. The sleeping accommodations are arguably the most important part of the hotel experience, and Hampton Inn doesn't disappoint. I highly recommend this place if you're planning on staying in the Wausau area. read more

Rooms were small however very clean! Pool was great with toys for the children. The best part was the super sweet lady that made our breakfast in the morning on 12/25-26. She was constantly walking around making sure everyone was happy including the children with cookies and coloring books! I was sad not to see her today as we left for our next adventure! Two things the hotel could change, get better drapes where people cannot see in however light could still come through instead of the blackout drape. Two, stop putting towels above the toilet! As we were traveling and stopping and staying in different hotels, this was a disappointment for the high price. The breakfast area was super cramped with not nearly the seating needed so people were stuck everywhere including doubling up on chairs, and I always thought that Hampton Inn boasted about their bedding but I found the pillows hard and overstuffed. I expected more for the price. At least staff were quite nice and polite. The night before we stayed at a Holiday Inn Express which was about $40 less per night and much nicer. read more

If you plan on having a wedding reception, don't book this hotel to come back to after "quiet hours" begin!!! This past weekend I got married, & my newly husband & I booked a hotel room for 9-2-16. We checked into the hotel early Saturday morning, 9-3-16, only to have the front desk worker follow us down the hall & outside the elevator, as though stalking us. Literally, 2 minutes later, didn't even have time to take our shoes off, we were getting a phone call from the front desk telling us we were too loud & needed to evacuate ASAP. I felt that we were being harassed!! Of course upset, we went back downstairs to the front desk to have a few words with this gentlemen & he called the cops on us. After talking to the cops, they stated this guy has done this to numerous people before & called a taxi for us to go somewhere else. After calling the hotel back the next day to speak to a manager, the assistance manager would not refund our $ for a hotel we barely even stepped foot in, saying "hotel Policy". Hotel Policy should be to give your customers a warning, or 2, to quiet down before they kick you out & call the cops on you. We had no warning to quiet down, & had to find a new place to stay on our wedding night @ 2am!!!! I can't believe they treat people this way, especially how the management staff handled the situation the following day. All I asked was for our $ back & we will forget the whole thing happened, but we were denied this request. This was my wedding night & it was ruined because of this experience!! Highly disappointed in the customer service & how I was treated & will never go back to a Hampton, or Hilton or any of the affiliated hotel chain. read more

Came back because we had such a great stay last time! Unfortunately, not the case this time. The hotel was hosting a large swim team party which made it impossible for anyone not in the party to enjoy any of the amenities of the hotel! No Coffee available, had to ask desk person to make more. Couldn't get near the pool and nearly got run over by a bunch of kids running to get on the elevator! Oh, and many of them were in the pool area without their parents. They were in the lobby area having "adult" time! Very disappointed.
