Passionate intentionality pursuing perfection - that's the best way to describe our recent visit to the Stewart Inn in Wausau. From the moment I first connected with Randy to check availability, to his gracious and warm greeting at the front door and through to our last good-bye, it was evident that his goal was to make our stay a memorable one. He succeeded in his objective far beyond our already high expectations. The public areas, our room with all the attention to details, not to mention the amazing 3 course healthy and delicious breakfast, all added to a most enjoyable time. There are many reasons people own B&B's. We just came from one the previous evening that was nice, but it was also apparent that money was a driving motivator. Randy is a businessman - and a very good B&B businessman at that - but we were made to feel as though profitability was simply a byproduct of an extra-ordinary stay. This claim is further substantiated by the crazy low rate he charges for his rooms! I hesitated to write this review because I selfishly don't want others to know of this little gem of a place but writing these heartfelt thoughts is the least I can do to show my appreciation for the wonderful night we spent at the Stewart Inn. To start, the house was beautiful and located in walking distance to the downtown restaurants and shopping. We arrived in the early evening just in time for wine. Randy greeted us and talked to us about the house and helped us choose a restaurant for dinner, even made our reservations. Our room was spacious and complete with fire place,steam shower, Apple TV; all of the amenities. In the morning Randy prepared a delicious three course breakfast! He even prepared a separate 3 course breakfast for my husband who has crazy dietary restrictions. He did an amazing job! We had such a great time and we will definitely be back! read more

It was my first BNB experience and set the standard for all others The house itself is an amazing historical structure, well-kept/restored with the perfect balance of elegance and charm. I was fortunate enough to have the daughters room, with a clawfoot tub, a fireplace, and a private balcony. Everything was well thought out and appointed. Fresh cookies and coffee awaited the weary traveler. Breakfast was a delightful affair that came in gentle waves of delicious presentations of local wares. My favorite was the Dutch baby pancake and the yogurt from Clover Meadows! I did not get to experience the town but it looks like it would be worth driving off the beaten path to. read more

I normally don't stay at Bed & Breakfast places but after this amazing experience I just might. Randy the owner was an outstanding host and treated me like family. Cooking home made breakfast, wine & cheese nightly & a couple time we just sat and hung out. The Inn is perfectly located with all the amenities you have at your own house. I'm coming back with my family and telling my friends about this 'hidden' gem in central Wisconsin. read more

A most wonderful experience! The room was great and had extra touches like the soft bathrobes. Buster, the resident dog, was the best greeter, offering his soft muzzle for pets (he is the best boy). The Stewart Inn is gorgeous! The home itself has been lovingly preserved to retain most of its original character. There are several great spots to cozy up in the communal areas of the home- plenty of room for all guests to spread out. In August I booked a room for the night before my wedding, and wedding night in October. I thought all was good, until I received a phone call from Randy informing me he doesn't accept Amex. A few days later, I booked a room using a MasterCard. I received two confirmations, which I attached. Fast forward to the wedding day, as I'm having breakfast with my daughter and a lovely couple at the Stewart Inn, he informs me (in front of the couple) that I had two rooms booked there. I did see a charge that morning from them for $390 on my Amex, which he previously said he didn't take, but I did not want to worry about it that day, as I was already all nerves about the wedding. I was instantly sick to my stomach and asked if he's actually charging me for this room that no one is staying in. He said "I'll try to rent out the room tonight, but that's all I can do." I took my daughter and left completely distraught. My 10 year old daughter pointed out to me that when we initially checked in on Wednesday he only showed us our room, and he gave us only one key, and never mentioned another room. When we got back from rehearsal Wednesday night there was a note by our door. My daughter and I were confused because it said something about another room being available if we needed it. I just put it aside, assuming that he meant if any guests (from my wedding) needed a place to stay they had availability. The next day I found out that the other available room was apparently mine. The worst part is how completely unprofessional and rude he's been about this. We have a mutual friend whom I used to work with, and he mentions that I should ask her about this, because she agrees with him. I'll just attach a snippet of the email he sent me for your viewing pleasure, because it's completely insane. I'm currently disputing the charges for the other room with my credit card company. So yes, this is a nice place to stay, but I have to disagree with what others are saying about the owner. I personally don't like to support businesses with owners who take advantage of others. read more

The Stewart Inn is a beautifully preserved Arts and Crafts style home, lovingly transformed into the best B&B experience you'll ever have. We loved the style and feel of the home: the woodwork and stained glass are gorgeous. There are several guest rooms to choose from, each with its own unique features and little touches. The innkeepers are warm and friendly and very knowledgeable about the Wausau area. There's a porch and garden area, and the Inn is located in a great neighborhood for walking. There are lots of other historic homes and museums within a few blocks. Downtown Wausau is just a couple of blocks away, and there are lots of interesting shops and restaurants to choose from. The rooms are beautifully decorated with modern furnishings that fit the style of the house. There are also entertainment systems cleverly fitted into each room and the bathrooms are large and spotless, with steam showers/saunas and lots of big, white fluffy towels. Breakfast every morning was excellent, with several courses and fresh juice and coffee. The quiche in particular was really good. I never thought of myself as a quiche person before, but now I've changed my mind. Room rates were very reasonable. I've paid much more to stay in bland, corporate hotels, and they didn't include gourmet breakfast. If you're worried "bed and breakfast" means snobby people and expensive rooms, don't be. This place is warm, genuine, and comfortable. It's classy without being pretentious. We shared a breakfast table with kind and interesting people each morning. We really loved our stay, and plan to return again soon. read more

We just visited Stewart Inn last weekend. First off, the home is gorgeous. Beautiful of course inside and out. Inside there is a comfortable seating area with plenty of room to visit with others if you'd like. There is a movie room with comfortable seating and a library if you have the time. Our room was beautiful. We stayed in the Fuller room. There was a balcony off our room so we sat out and had a glass of wine on a perfect summer Wisconsin night. Soaking tub was awesome, steam shower was great. Breakfast was several courses and wonderful. The bed was very comfortable and my favorite part was the linens. They were so soft! My husband was fascinated with the woodwork. Rates were reasonable and I don't think I could stay for just one day. Hosts were very kind. I really appreciated the phone call saying they were looking forward to having us. read more

This place is a gem. The building is architecturally fabulous, and in great shape. Very well cared for clearly. Very clean, great attention to detail. Comfy beds with your choice of like 12...yeah 12 pillow options. And the breakfast? Get out. 3 courses...really good ones. Great coffee. The owners have it purring like a kitten. Awesome experience...which I will for sure enjoy again and encourage. And Wausau is a fun little-ish town. Go check it out. read more

This place is remarkable. It is a living museum with the original woodwork, light fixtures, stained glass, and Crafts Style details exceedingly well preserved. It is exceptionally clean, bright, and gorgeous. Everywhere you look there is a fascinating, unique piece of history from the door handles to the fireplaces to the art work. The owners are warm, friendly, helpful, and accommodating. There are little touches that make this truly luxurious: the breakfasts were amazing, there are literally 10 types of pillows to choose from, a sound system with every kind of genre available, controlled by an iPad in every room, fresh baked cookies and scones daily, chocolate and coffee as well. As if this is not impressive enough, there are several excellent restaurants and 2 art museums within walking distance. Granite Peaks Ski Resort is a short drive away. I would come to Wausau just to stay here. read more

I stayed here because of my interest in arts & crafts houses. The house and room were in excellent shape. The first floor contains the living and dining room which are used for the excellent daily breakfast and evening reception. The room was very comfortable with plush bedding, a nice sized bathroom, and a fireplace. A enjoyable place to stay. read more

If you're in search of a B&B experience in an impeccably-maintained Arts & Craft home, then the Stewart Inn should absolutely be on your short list. The attention to detail in the design and structure (tripartite-arch theme throughout) are impressive. The craftsmanship of the design, woodwork, stained glass, etc. is top notch. You would never guess the home dates back to 1906! My wife says it's the best B&B experience she's had. We loved the Fuller Room with its private balcony. The private music feature in each room is a great touch. Randy and Sara offer a great multi-course breakfast in the morning and wine & cheese in the evening. It's only a short walk to a nice downtown area with options for dinner. If you're up for a walk in a nice neighborhood of other remarkable homes then this place fits the bill. We feel so fortunate to have come across the Stewart Inn during our travels and plan to return. read more
