On April 6, 2026, I entered my mother's hospital room and witnessed three nursing assistants exhibiting aggressive and abusive behavior towards my mother. Two young ladies were grasping her wrist and pulling with considerable force while another young lady applied pressure to her back to maneuver her across the bed. During the incident, my mother exhibited audible distress, repeatedly requesting that they refrain from applying pressure to her back and pulling her by her wrist. I respectfully requested the young lady to step away due to my mother's distress, however, the staff member remained stationary and did not acknowledge my plea. Consequently, I exited the room to inform the supervisor and charge nurse about the concerning incident I had witnessed. If I could give this hospital a ZERO star, I would! What happened to my girlfriend's son two weeks ago was absolutely unacceptable! He was in full blown crisis/psychosis and having been through those myself more than a few times in my life, I know the "emergency" of those situations. But rather than admit him and transfer him to a psychiatric hospital, they instead, just let him go 3 separate times over a 4 day period! He was seeing things, hearing things and feeling things (feeling his body was on fire) (hallucinating) and committed a crime he didn't remember doing! On top of that, we later found out that he had a knife after we took him to a hospital in Wilmington that acutally gives a damn about people when he was about to walk through a metal detector. The fact that this hospital doesn't have a metal detector is absurd! My girflfriend called to file a complaint that basically fell on deaf ears. The lady said that because her son didn't answer questions the "appropriate" way, they didn't feel it was neccessary to admit him. When you're not in your 'right state of mind", duh, you're not going to answer questions the way you're supposed to so you can get help! Word to the wise, if you happen to have a child, adult child or any other loved one in crisis, don't take them here. It's worth the extra drive to take them to New Bern or Wilmington. read more

My daughter is 27 and was diagnosed with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) around December 6th. She was hospitalized for nearly a month and finally discharged on December 23rd. She is also developmentally disabled, which makes managing a new neurological condition even more challenging. She was only back at her care home for five days before becoming paralyzed from the waist down again on December 29th. The care home called EMS, and she was taken to our local hospital, where she had now been for a full week at the writing of the review. The treatment she had received was absolutely horrific. We've had to contact patient advocates, Adult Protective Services, Disability Rights, and are pursuing additional avenues. The very first night, it took over five hours just to get her into a room. The ER doctor admitted he didn't know what FND was and actually asked me, "What's that?" He never examined her--no physical assessment, no reflex checks, nothing. They placed her on a "social hold" and left her sitting in a wheelchair next to the bed for at least another hour or two. After repeatedly asking, they finally put her on the gurney bed (not an actual bed), at 2:30 a.m. This is the same gurney she laid on, paralyzed for 7 days. I told the nurse before leaving that she needed to urinate. The next morning, I learned she had urinated shortly after we left and was left sitting in it for eight hours--in wet clothes, blankets, and sheets. Urine was on the floor, running from the bed to the wall. Staff walked through it and tracked it around the room but never cleaned it up. We, her family, have been cleaning her table, asking for a toothbrush and cleaning the urine off her floor ourselves. She isn't even receiving basic hygiene care--we have to ask for a toothbrush and a cup of water for her to brush her teeth, there was no running water in her room. Her urine was literally the color of sweet tea from not enough fluids and we had to ask and ask to get an actual big cup after 5 days to have water in. She hasn't consistently received full meals. We were bringing extra meals. When we asked for a menu, staff refused and told us she couldn't have one. After seven days, a dietitian finally came down, gave her a menu, and said, "Of course she can have one, she should've had one on the first day and let her pick an actual full meal. At one point, my daughter asked a nurse for a bedpan because she needed to use the bathroom. The nurse told her to "just poop her diaper." My daughter called me nearly in tears ashamed and embarrassed because of what they made her do --she can sense when she needs to go, but can't feel when it actually happens. She was humiliated and left in a mess for them to come clean her up. Today when the doctor came in and the family expressed concerns and I mentioned basic things like a toothbrush, his response was, "well her arms work, don't they." We were floored by the response and my other daughter told him that was very unprofessional. She ended up starting to get a sore on her rear end from just laying for so many days and not being turned or dried off after wiping her down. It took a the entire 7 days when the nurse case manager got back for her to even get a real sponge bath, where they actually washed her back, and legs and held a blanket up for privacy so she could clean what she could, and then dry her off. Not just a wipe down with the wipes after an incident and then leaving her wet and not dried off to prevent sores. The only shining light in this whole stay was the nurse case manager when she got back on the 7th day my daughter was there. I have never witnessed such neglect and lack of basic human dignity in a hospital setting. We have taken photos of the room and floor showing the urine and the lack of clean up. This goes far beyond poor care--it is outright neglect, especially to someone that is developmentally delayed and is paralyzed and can't get out of bed to ask for help and has to rely on the staff. read more

My mother was admitted to Onslow Memorial Hospital in December for hallucinations, confusion, and a fall, resulting in a 10-day stay. She has lung cancer and had completed radiation in October. At admission, she also had a UTI and critically low sodium levels, providing clear medical explanations for her condition. Despite this, providers fixated early on a single lifestyle disclosure, and that assumption seemed to overshadow other documented causes. Nearly every physician repeated the same narrative, even as labs and her medical history pointed elsewhere. Some comments were made in front of others that felt dismissive and inappropriate. Her inability to eat or tolerate sodium supplements was repeatedly documented as refusal, yet the true cause was untreated oral thrush. She made multiple complaints of burning pain in her mouth and throat that went unassessed. I ultimately identified the thrush myself after examining her mouth. Once treated, she resumed eating normally and her sodium levels improved without medication. Unfortunately, the inaccurate documentation remained in her chart and directly led to a rehab facility declining her admission. There is a significant difference between refusing medication and being physically unable to tolerate it due to untreated pain. Basic care was also lacking. She was never bathed with soap and water during her entire stay and was only given wipes. Prolonged time in bed without proper hygiene led to a rash that went unaddressed for days. Her hair became so matted that it had to be cut after discharge. Oral care would not have occurred if I had not provided it myself. I also had to repeatedly advocate for assistance with getting her up and walking to prevent further physical decline. These are fundamental aspects of inpatient care that should not require constant family intervention. After multiple discussions about discharge to a rehab facility, she was unexpectedly sent home with orders for home health PT/OT, but no services were ever initiated or coordinated. While many of the nurses and aides were kind, this hospitalization was marked by assumptions, delayed assessments, inaccurate documentation, and poor follow-through. Significant improvements are needed in basic patient care, provider communication, and physician bedside manner. read more

What a disgusting facility. Not only was it literally gross, with dirt and dust bunnies in the room. But the medical team was horrid. The two nurses were talking about bullshit while I was trying not to throw up. But then they give me an IV and ask me to leave the room! I had to walk out of the room with an IV hanging from my arm, and it kept getting stuck in shit. The whole place is disgusting, and I'd rather drive 4 hours on my death bed then ever touch this place again. read more

On 12-23-2025, I had surgery on my right arm to repair both my carpal tunnel and cubital nerve. This was my 4th experience with Onslow SurgiCare of Jacksonville at 166 Memorial Ct, and once again, it is by far, the best, most efficient, and compassionate surgical clinic I've known. The facility's size promotes a very personalized experience and enables you to feel comfortable and the staff is so pleasant from the receptionist at check-in until you're exiting the building with a prepared container of chicken soup:) I've always felt absolutely confident and assured that I'd received exemplary and professional care, you never feel like a number, there's such a warm feeling there! Firstly, thank you to Karma Williams, my amazing PA with Johnston Pain Management on Huff Street, she's an absolute Godsend in my life, she doesn't stop until she deciphers what's going on and then takes every opportunity to help you heal and go forward! Dr. Gary Wertman was dreamy as a surgeon, his personality is so humble and kind, you feel so comforted and confident in his hands (literally)! To my lovely RNs, Ashley at Pre-Op and Christina at Post-Op., I was so soothed by your calming and kindhearted manners, I never felt alone or unheard. Thank you for detecting how uncomfortable I can become after being in awkward positions for any length of time. You're truly gifted and giving. Jeremy, the CRNA, thank you for sending me off to the moon! I don't remember anything but a blissful nap. I appreciate the nerve block that worked exactly as you explained and prevented me from feeling any severe pain! After keeping my daughter for 3 days with ct,mri, and ultrasound then saying surgery to remove cyst and probably the effected ovary then told her she can't eat cause she has surgery the next day then told her not doing surgery just draining then came back couple hours later saying going to transfer her to Wilmington and won't be able to til the next day so 4 days still in pain and nothing got done besides these test and pain meds and nausea medicine cause she is throwing up ! Tell me how ridiculous this is I am told when I called about my colostomy bag cause I had surgery on my colon and I have a stoma and I'm out of bags and I came to the emergency room to get supplies just one bag just to last me till tomorrow. A girl behind the counter says no... I'm there dealing with a serious medical condition that requires constant management, and being denied a single ostomy bag in an emergency situation shows a lack of compassion and common sense. Medical professionals should understand the gravity of my situation. A stoma isn't optional--it's life-sustaining. Denying me a bag is like refusing someone insulin or an inhaler. Do NOT go here for cardiac rehab! I went here for cardiac rehab for a few sessions. I did not complete the regimen due to the rudeness of the 2 women running the operation. They have 2 modes of operation. If they like you they treat you well. If they don't like you they treat you like an idiot. I'm a retired electrical engineer so I'm not an idiot. The first incident involved use of the treadmill. I was working out on the treadmill when something in my telemetry got the operators excited. They barked at me about having the treadmill on an incline. I did not! One of them ran over to my machine and rudely asked what was I doing. Then they didn't give me time to answer their question and started fussing at the treadmill which was NOT on an incline! The operator was very rude during this incident treating me like an idiot. The second incident involved the use of the foot and arm machine. I moved over to this machine and sat down. The machine was not turned on. I pushed the power button and waited for the machine to power up which took a few seconds. Again one of the operators saw that I wasn't exercising, rushed over and rudely asked what was I doing and basically scolded me. At this time I had had enough of their attitude, got up, took off my telemetry equipment and walked out. One of the operators followed me out and rudely accosted me in the hallway. When I started to reply she raised her voice and told me not to raise my voice to her. Standard SOP when someone wants to make themselves the victim and make you the villain. At that time I just turned away and walked out. You would be much better off patronizing some place else where you are treated like a human being. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. Onslow Memorial Hospital is by far the worst medical facility I have ever stepped foot in. The staff shows absolutely no care for patients whatsoever. They are completely dismissive, act like you're invisible, and make you feel like you're wasting their time just by being there. The level of unprofessionalism is unbelievable. Instead of compassion or concern, you're met with judgmental attitudes and eye rolls. They act like they're doing you a favor by even acknowledging you. What's worse is they provide no real medical treatment you can sit there for hours and leave with nothing but frustration. They don't explain anything, they don't listen, and they certainly don't make you feel safe or cared for. To make matters worse, whatever they did do only made my symptoms worse, and they still gave me nothing to help with the pain or relief. The attitude in this place is unprofessional and judgmental, and there is zero sense of compassion from anyone.I felt completely abandoned and ignored in a place that's supposed to help people. My Mom went to the hospital for high blood pressure. The wait time was awful. She was there at 10 am and after not being able to get her numbers down and some test run. We were sent back to the waiting room which was cold and we waited for a room for hours. Till I said could you check on her room . She didnt get to her room till 7pm that night. The staff was great while she was there. She was there 2 weeks..They got her numbers now to low but the dr. released her on a thursday at 3:30pmI signed papers, helped her get ready to leave . They wheeled her to the car. She was so weak she struggled to get in the car. Once my Dad and I got back to their house (5mins away) we helped her out of the car to in doors and she was so weak. It took us both toget her thru the door where she could no longer walk. We couldn't hold her up and my dad went to get a chair. We sat her down on the floor and she lost continuousness, lost all body fluids, and had to call the ambulance.. We went back to the ER and there she hadn't been changed out of her soiled clothes for 2 hrs later after we said something like this isnt right, she then was put in ICU that night. She passed away early Saturday Morning at 1 am. My complaint is that she should have never been released. Why would you release her it took a matter of that short time for her to go down hill. My dad had to pay for that ambulance which if they had kept her and made sure she was ok to leave we wouldnt of been in this situation away from the care she needed.. If it was up to me I would have filed with Medicare that she should have never been released. That the hospital was at fault. My dad being elderly didnt want to go thru all of the paper work and to deal with this when dealing with the loss of his wife. So I think anyone reading this should know dont go here for something serious, they dont know what there doing there. I spoke with my neighbors friend and his grandfather passed July 22nd 2025 from sepsis staying there and my Mom July 12th 2025 from neglect and not keeping her in. read more

"I just do paperwork" when asked if they heard about anything like what I've dealt with recently. Then after being here 3 hours got sent home w a packet of other doctors I could see. THIS PLACE IS A JOKE the only way that this shit for an establishment will be fixed is if they demolish it and build a whole new hospital with all new staff. I had surgery and had many maintenance medications necessary for my health; I was placated and then ignored time after time mainly by " a nurse " named Katie. she ignored her job, ignored me and was the coldest, irresponsible person. My meds were of great importance as not having them could cause seizures and heart attacks. The ignorance or choice of arrogance put my health in jeopardy. This staff, this hospital was sub par and a place you should never put your trust in. Sadly other staff came and ignored my request for my NEEDED maintenance meds. They all simply choose to not care. When my husband was taken to OMH he was minutes away from death. The ED staff worked hard to keep him alive. I've never seen such commitment and compassion like that before. He was stabilized and sent up to his room where his care was being given by the staff on the floor, respiratory therapy, and doctor. Everyone involved in his care went over and above to make sure that he had the best care possible. They were all amazing! The only complaint I had was that Christmas dinner wasn't served on Christmas Day. I will shout from the rooftops my joy at being able to take him home and he was able to recover completely. There isn't enough time to thank the staff of OMH for their care. Oh! By the way, they made sure that I was comfortable as I did not leave his side while he was there. I've never seen the quality of care he got at any other hospital and I recommend OMH to anyone who will listen. You all are the best. Thank you for giving us more time together. read more

Trust the reviews and what the locals say, this hospital, including the L&D department, is terrible. I knew the reputation, but naively thought it wouldn't include the birthing unit, so I set myself up to give birth here. The night staff kept me up all night, it sounded like a frat party in the hallway. The recovery room was visibly dirty, my feet were black after an hour in that room. The nursing staff (with one exception) was dismissive of my pain and my wishes, brusque, and uncaring. I was forced out of the delivery room while I was still dizzy and nearly blacked out trying to get to the wheelchair. I saw one doctor, but just to provide stitches, and I have seen better sutures at the vet. To top it off, I contracted an infection that made it hard to care for my infant for the two weeks it took to clear. Please don't go here. That's my advice to everyone I know. Make the drive, go anywhere else. They don't even have a NICU. read more

Wish I could give 0 stars I arrived in the ER at 4:30am in serve pain crying and rocking back and fourth. I did not receive and treatment until almost 9:30am. I waited In the waiting area for three hours. Only one other person in there who arrived after me. Not sure if this Is an actual emergency room or what but glad I wasn't going through anything more life threatening, because if I would've been.. I would have died in the waiting area. I expressed my concern for the amount of pain I was in SEVERAL times to the front desk. They told me just a few more minutes when it was actually hours. According the the Walgreens pharmacist the doctor wrote the prescription incorrectly so they couldn't fill it and nobody called to tell me that so I wasn't able to get medicines prescribed to me, so therefore I woke up with a locked jaw again. Doctor didn't reallly treat me or look at me at all. Had X-rays done then he talked to me. That was it. Upon further inspection I have noticed a huge white thing in my throat. I usually go to ED north in Scott's hill, but due to short staffing I was brought here. After being given IV meds in the ambulance I was moved to the LOBBY! So I am sitting here holding my IV bag and was given another round of pain meds. I'm about to fall asleep in this wheelchair in the lobby. I went in last night to have a rape kit performed and after 5 hours and telling a nurse what happened I was discharged with no kit performed. Apparently another nurse come in at 2 or 3 am while I was asleep and said I wouldn't talk because I was asleep but then she said I told her two different stories. My grandbaby went for stitches to her face and spent 9 hours in emergency. I felt like they did not take her in consideration cause they attended to patientswho came after. The shift changed on us too. They were short of doctors usual. The staff did their best with limited resources.​ People go to hospital cause they are sick. Attention to patients should be done in a timely manner since patients are in pain and is an expensive visit. I have heard alot negative comments about patient care. The two people that answered the phone for the ER was so rude. I called the ER at 8:28pm and a man answered the phone and all I asked was were the waiting room packed. I called again at 12:11am, same question and the woman was rude. Is this what Onslow Memorial Hospital represent? Whoever answers the phone represents Onslow Memorial Hospital and therefore these rude people need to go through a World Class Customer Service. People do not deserve your rudeness. I had to put one star in order to post this review but they do not deserve that. Update: I came to the ER at 2:30 am and no the waiting room was not packed as I was told before. Had a seizure in the shower and slammed my head against the tub. Fire fighters made it to me first and basically did everything before the EMS showed up. When I got into the EMS a paramedic was trying to insert and IV into my arm so I could receive Saline but he shoved 3 needles into my arm and I never got saline (just 3 painful needles inserted into my arms) Once I got into the hospital they checked me in then immediately took me to the waiting room. I figured they were going to give me saline in the ER but nope a nurse just wheeled me into the waiting room and left me in the wheelchair. I told every single person I spoke to that I needed saline and never received any and everyone ignored me. For the majority of the time I was there I felt like I was gonna have another seizure. After awhile of waiting I ended up just leaving but as I was checking out a man in front of me was very clearly on the verge of a heart attack and they also put him in the waiting room! I've had both of my babies at this hospital but EVERY time I go for another reason it's a very upsetting experience. read more

I went to the ED via EMS with a stoke. I got there about 9pm. The nurse that took the report helped them to put me in a W/C and saw my problem. but put in complaint of fall, the nurse out at the desk to check in said I was going to the waiting room. I told her I couldn't move my right side; she said Well you just moved your left arm. Neither the nurse that took report or the nurse at the desk did a assessment on me or asked ME what my problem was. I spent 3.5 hrs. in the waiting room till I saw triage, then 45 min to get my CT, standard per AHA is 45min at the long to get a CT. then I was admitted at 415am. When I was admitted in the ED for 3 days, not one nurse did neuro checks or did assessment on me. My problem is I am a nurse that has worked in different ED's as a permanent nurse and a travel nurse, so I knew what was right. I complained about the wait etc., they put in my chart I was cantankerous. When I finally got up to the 3rd floor, they were nice and did what they were supposed to do. I complained about the treatment in the ED and the Patient Advocate (HaHa) did their groups to check about and of course I was told nothing except crap. I have asked many times for 3 nurses names but will not give them to me. I see covering up. Do Not go if you can. read more

Well today I finished my 20th and final radiation treatment for prostate cancer which diagnosed in January. The staff there is outstanding! They made me feel comfortable with something that really caught me off guard in January. The Doctor, Nurses, Radiation Technicians and front desk staff were approachable, helpful, kind and knowledgeable. Thank you Dr Ross (University of Michigan Grad), you put together a great team. This hospital gets worse and worse every time I come somehow. We are there at least once a month for croup, when it gets bad enough at night, my daughter is gasping for air, coughing to a point where she's puking, screaming, and turning blue because she can't catch her breath. I brought her in at 6am today, it was myself and ONE other person waiting. The waiting room was completely empty. Vitals were taken right away, but somehow it took 2 hours to get seen. I informed the ladies up front that I'm here every month for the exact same thing and I just need the medication to get her by until her appointment Monday. The ladies were very nice and treated my daughter well. Well after almost 4 hours we were discharged with no medication, just a prescription. They asked what pharmacy I want to use and I gave them the pharmacy information, not realizing they're closed today. Why do these providers not have a list of pharmacies that are open today and inform their patients of this? So we call right away and ask if they can transfer the medication to a different pharmacy and I get complete attitude over the phone. God knows how long it will take to transfer this medication over now, so we will probably end up back in the ER tonight!!! This is the worst hospital I've ever been to. read more

Worst ER I have ever been too! Who ever manages this ER should be fired, the care from the nurses is criminal, 3 of them sitting around doing nothing, but laughing about the very few patients that are there,,you sit for hours and wait why the nurses do nothing, its terrible!!! read more

I had taken my 2 year old grandson to the er with his mom and sat in the waiting room for 41/2 hours to be put in a room without even a bed in the room only a chair, not even have a dr, come in to see him. The nurse said oh i have your discharge papers here we are super busy so we are just telling most of the children cases to go see their primary dr tomorrow you can call it the flu, virus, rsv or whatever you want to call it just keep giving Tylenol to keep fever down, all while not even saying a word about his ear that is draining and filled with puss. I would never recommend this place to anyone not even in a life or death situation. Drive the extra to get your family taken care of properly. Didn't even want to do 1 star but it made me put at least that. read more

1 star is a stretch with this place. I've been here with my daughter for 3 hours for a fkn school note. They ARE NOT PACKED, BUSY OR FKN WORKING! There's a baby I'm here that can barely cough without screaming from pain! Another than has slept because crying hurts like is this really an ER? Does it stand for Eh Room! Because when you ask a realistic question you get a shoulder shrug an eh‍ YALL JUST FKN SUCK! You need more staff or do you? The staff you do have does jack sht! The new staff would probably tag along in doing jack sht! read more

There is a Caucasian older male who sits at a small desk to your left as you enter the ER. His demeanor is through the roof. He's very rude, and speaks to the patients as well as visitors as if they are illiterate. As a patient waiting to be seen I watched and listened to this man be very ugly with several different people. Someone else tried to intervene and he was very rude. I'm not sure what he is designated at this facility for but he is a prime example Of a hospital "worst first impression" when you come through the door. We are here as a sick person, in need of emergency care and some are here to just simply see their loved one. The last thing needed is this man's attitude. I hope and pray this gets resolved. Some individuals are just not people friendly and should stick to a stay at home job or in an office away from the public. read more

I was at the hospital with my daughter in law giving birth. I walked out of the room to give my son and her some time alone. I realized I was having a stroke. They called the rapid response team which was great. I had a cat scan and talked to a Tele Neurologist within 15 mins. It went down drastically after that. I was put in a room in ER and left alone for over 4 hrs without being checked on. I was finally moved to the 3rd floor. My stroke was due to a blood pressure spike. I kept asking why they weren't giving me my blood pressure meds, especially since every vital check my blood pressure was extremely high. I knew that it is important to start rehab as soon as possible to regain as much as I could. I begged to let me walk down the hall but was dismissed. I wanted to sit up in my bed to do as much exercise as possible with my arm and hand where I had lost my fine motor skills. When I sat up the bed alarm would go off and the staff would run in and want me to lie down. This was the worst thing I could do for my recovery. I had agreed to be moved to an intensive rehab hospital. The attending doctor said I could be moved the next day. The social worker said it could be days. At that point I decided to go home with in home physical therapy. The next day the social worker called and said she reached out to 4 in home services and they wouldn't take me because of my insurance. There was no indication she would keep trying. I called my insurance company and they didn't understand why I would be told that, They cover in home care. The hospital was supposed to schedule a follow up with my primary doctor the next day. They would call and let me know what time. By 11:00 I had not heard anything so I called my primary doctor's office and was told no one had contacted them. I scheduled my appointment and my primary doctor arranged my physical therapy and in home things I would need. This hospital did not care about my stroke recovery at all. They did the very minimum they could while I was a patient. I will never go back. I would have my family drive me to New Hanover. I honestly don't know how they got or able to keep their certification. read more
