When I was in the Cooke Marketplace for a rare pandemic outing, I was thrilled when I stumble upon their shop! When I think of Bake Erie, I of course think of their colorful Ohio cookies with delicious frosting. If you catch them during the day you'll see a bigger selection, but I was there near close so cookies were all that was left (but don't worry, we still bought). The inside has a clean, white feel to it that every teenager will love taking photos in. There's a few tables to sit and relax or you could take your bakery to-go while strolling the Marketplace. Before ordering, I informed staff of my allergy and specifically requested that my sandwich be made without provolone cheese. My husband also reminded staff that I could not have cheese. We repeated this multiple times to make sure there was no misunderstanding. What makes this especially concerning is that staff clearly understood I had a dairy allergy. When I ordered a salad, an employee immediately informed me that the poppyseed dressing contained dairy and helped me switch to a vinaigrette. That showed they were aware of the allergy and the need to avoid dairy products. Despite all of that, my sandwich was still prepared with provolone cheese. I discovered it after I had already begun eating. For someone with a food allergy, that is not a minor mistake. It is a serious food safety issue that could result in a medical emergency. When I brought the mistake to the staff's attention, I was shocked by the response. Instead of receiving a sincere apology, concern for my safety, or an offer to replace the meal or issue a refund, the response was dismissive. I was surprised to see such a huge bubble tea selection, especially in this part of the state. I loved how proud of their menu they are! I had a long drive so I snagged a nitro cold brew and blueberry bubble tea to-go. Both were absolutely delicious and just what I needed for my drive. I can never say no to bubble tea! The inside is much larger than meets with the eye with several different seating areas. If I lived nearby, this would be a comfortable spot to catch up with friends or have a coffee date. I get she's probably working in there by herself but to open the window and started yelling at me like I did something wrong for pulling into the drive through is crazy.
