My friend referred me here when my beloved furchild, Howard James, passed away earlier this year. I was devastated to say the least and I wanted something special made with some of his ashes that would bring me joy whenever I saw it - something I could have out all the time. So on the way to the ocean we swung in here. I was prepared with some ashes in hand and was warmly welcomed by the owners. I was ugly crying and struggling to describe what I was looking for, but they were compassionate and helpful and let me have all the time I needed to make some decisions while simultaneously talking about how amazing Howie was. They helped me pick out the perfect pieces to create to honor him - I ended up with two glass votives and a sleeping glass cat. I got to choose the colors and sizes and styles. And they are beautiful. Honestly, the glass I received a couple weeks later was beyond my expectations. Little pieces of art that bring me joy and warmth whenever I see them or light a candle within. I couldn't have thought of a better way to keep his spirit alive than this, and I am so grateful for Opal Art Glass for taking the time to create something so perfect and meaningful to me. Now that said - they do ALL SORTS of other glass creations and art too (ornaments, bowls, yard art, figurines, pendants, etc) and they are all beautiful and unique and the prices are fair. Truly a wonderful place to stop in for some gifts or art if you're around. What sets these guys a part from all the rest is they care - they care about their customers and care about the quality they deliver. I cannot say enough good things about this art/glass shop. The prices are very reasonable for the amazing art that the pieces are. They have the coolest glass floats and lit up glass floats on a stand. The owner was sooooooo nice and even showed us around a bit and talked to us about his craft. This is a little out of the way but if you are travelling through Aberdeen on the way to the beach, it is worth the few minutes it takes. I learned about this exquisite little shop online while visiting from another state. Loving art and blown glass made a stop there on the "must do" list. I'm thrilled that we went. The store is enchanting with the Sun shining through the windows and displays. Colors dance around the room and the saturation of color in their art shows a love of their craft and attention to the final product. They also teach people to blow glass for a once in a lifetime experience. It's a wonderful gift for people who have everything. My husband was drawn in particular to their spheres. About the size of a soccer ball and in many colors. Some were lit from within looking like a row of outer planets. They had small items like a jellyfish necklace, ornaments suitable for hanging year round, desk top marine animals that are tasteful not tacky. They have vases that would be a showpiece on the right window or we'll lit shelf. They have a few lamps that are breathtaking. However, the items that captured my eye and heart were the jellyfish lamps. Being a diver I love all things aquatic. So for my birthday, my husband ordered a custom colored and sized jellyfish hanging lamp. I am thrilled beyond belief at the results. They were very helpful choosing my colors explaining how different they may look lit up with various bulbs. We were allowed to watch them blow a jellyfish leg for another customer. I treasure that experience. So a few weeks later I received a very well packaged, intact lamp. It is exactly what I described. It makes me smile every time I see it hanging over a seashell collection. read more
