Especially since the pistol and rifle ranges at my club are outdoors, it's convenient to come here when it's super windy or super rainy. You don't have to be an NRA member to shoot here, but you do get a discount. Also, there are no gun rentals at this range -- if you wanna shoot, bring your own firearms. They also have range rules on what ammo you can shoot, and they will check your ammo before they assign you a range. Thankfully, they have ammo for sale if your ammo isn't shootable at the range, and/or you forgot your ammo. If it's your first time coming to the range, you will be required to take a range safety test (if you're an average shooter with common sense, it's nearly impossible to fail unless you're intentionally trying to fail). Once you pass, you get a range card that you have to pay for, but once you buy it, you never have to pay again (unless you misplace it). Also, ladies: I recommend coming out on Thursday night! Not only do you get a discount on your range reservation, but you also get a free range card on your first visit! All in all, the NRA HQ range is great. As long as you follow the rules, it is not a bad place to shoot.

The instructors deliver exceptional training at a very fair value. Every instructor I worked with was extremely competent and clearly brought deep experience from law enforcement, military shooting, and competition backgrounds. Across the three courses I had a mix of returning and new instructors, which meant I benefited from multiple perspectives, different teaching styles, and constant constructive feedback throughout the training. One thing that really stood out was the student-to-instructor ratio, which never exceeded roughly 5-6 students per instructor. That meant everyone received real coaching and corrections instead of just standing on the line burning ammo. The learning environment was excellent. There were no egos among the instructors or students, which is honestly rare in the firearms training world. The instructors were down to earth, approachable, and connected well with the class, which made the training both productive and genuinely enjoyable. Spending full days on the range can be a grind, but these guys made it fun. They also did a great job of accommodating different skill levels without slowing the class down or rushing anyone. The training simply flowed in a way that kept everyone progressing. The facilities were more than adequate for the course material and allowed the instructors to run drills safely and effectively. I've spent 27 years in the military and now work in executive protection, and I've trained with a lot of different instructors and organizations over the years. I attended the Women on Target event hosted at Burro Canyon in Azusa, CA this past Saturday and had…read morea AMAZING time. Women on Target trainings are hosted through out the USA. There were 2 groups (AM and PM) of women, 50 for each time block. I was amazed at the amount of sponsorship, effort, and support from volunteers on this day. EVERYTHING was free, hats, tshirts, food, and ammo. For the AM group we got breakfast which included muffins, starbucks coffee and orange juice. Then we had a brief safety seminar then went straight to shooting. Turners provided ALL of the guns thanks to Ruger and 10,000 rounds of ammo! After shooting about 50 rounds we had lunch also provided by the sponsors. Turners then raffled off the chance to buy the Ruger Mark III we shot for only $180!!! (cant say this will be true for all events.) Less than MSRP! The NRA, CRPA, and CalGuns paid for everything else (IE Targets, food, swag, ect). It was nice to be around girls of all skill levels. I being a more experienced shooter had a blast seeing the ear to ear smiles on even the most timid shooters. I even learned some great tricks to improve myself. All the trainers were super educated and very helpful. Another fun thing to see was all the male volunteers that were on hand to reload our magazines. Who dosent wasnt a cute guy reloading for them? I cant think of any more words to describe this great event. Everyone involved was so nice, generous, and helpful. Highly recommended if you can attend a event put on by this group. SOOO generous.
