This place is my home away from home. When I'm here I'm surrounded by people who have become family to me. Not to mention how CLEAN this place is! I'm big on germs and was put to ease by how often and thorough they clean their equipment. To be honest I was nervous starting out my bjj journey. But the professor and his instructors are here for their students and are top notch. Egos and attitudes are left at the door and acceptance and guidance fill the room. EVERYONE here is helpful! If you don't understand a drill/ technique best believe a classmate will help you out even before the instructor because that's the atmosphere they have created here. No one gets left out. So it's a great place with great people, what about what they teach?!... the way their classes are structured varies sometimes. Warm up, drills, rolls. Other times it's flowing at slower pace and different drilling warm ups. They seem to always mix it up to keep things interesting no matter if you're there 5 days a week. Want to learn something new? Have questions about certain moves? Just ask! It'll be incorporated into the class or afterwards. They make sure EVERYONE is SAFE!!! You'll be tired and sore, trust me.. but I've never left feeling endangered when learning new techniques or rolling with others. Cherry on top- I've already had to use what I've learned in this academy out in the real world to keep others safe. I had just completed the 5 week women's program course yesterday and I must say that it was one of the best experiences I've ever had in my life! At first, I felt so intimidated as it was out of my comfort zone but coach Brandon and Jasmine made me feel so comfortable in learning the basics and fundamentals of jiu-jitsu. I learned so much within the short week but also had so much fun practicing and rolling with the ladies! I look forward to continuing my jiu-jitsu journey with my girls and husband (who are already in the program) and excited to learn more. If I could give this rating beyond a 5 star I would! I've been training jujitsu since 2000 and have trained all over the bay and in Brazil. I just relocated to Lathrop from Pleasanton and was looking for a place close to my new home to train. After trying the other academies in town I saw that Open Mat was opening so I popped in to try them out. Man I'm glad I did! I can easily say that this is the nicest group of instructors I have ever interacted with. Everyone at the academy was super friendly and welcoming. The instruction is top notch. Chris the head instructor is amazing. I was very impressed with how good the lower belts are. Again been to lots of different schools and the guys and gals at Open Mat are a cut above. I just completed the 5 week Jiu Jitsu course and I couldn't recommend it more!! I was taught all the basics and fundamentals that are important when getting started. The class was well organized and had a great energy. Everyone is so welcoming and kind. It was amazing to see how everyone progressed throughout the course! Coach Sharif is an incredible boxing coach who has made a huge impact on my child's confidence, discipline, and skills. Coach Sharif has many years of experience he has great patience with the kids and the ability to connect with them. He creates a structured environment where the kids learn proper boxing techniques while also developing respect and focus. Wanted to start jui-jitsu and found Open Mats 5 week program online. Went into gym with my daughter and the environment was extremely welcoming. My daughter and i were able to talk to Brandon directly and was able to ask all the questions I had about the gym. Five weeks later I completed the program and have both my older kids also enrolled in the youth classes. Brandon is an excellent teacher and so are the other higher belts that assist in teaching. Great gym, very clean and some of the best instructors. I enrolled my 4year old daughter 3 months ago and I could see great improvement. She has build up her confidence walks around with her head held up high at all time. I started JiuJitsu with the Cardona's about 6 years ago and now I have my little brothers enrolled in the classes too (we love the safe environment). This is the best place in the town of tracy to do a martial art they have boxing jiu jitsu and lots of other things to try out I been going there for around 5 months and it great the people there are amazing the coaches there are awesome there like a second family there yeah i recommend all you to go check it out won't regret it read more
