We relocated to Tracy last year and Decided to put my daughter into jiu jitsu one day to help her with school bullies in middle school and it was our best decision we made. I read a few regarding some third party billing, which they haven't used in quite some time, paying for belt promotions, which I've never heard of (even in other martial arts schools we've attended), and some not agreeing with contract terms. Because I like this place so much, now I feel the need to make a few comments. If you're signing a contract, please read through it. Unforseen circumstances happen, but a contract is binding. And in this school, you are allowed to make up missed classes within the month. The instructors are pretty understanding here and I'm sure they will work with you to figure something out. My little girl loves coming here. The instructors are very attentive and encouraging. She has been coming here for almost a year now and has been loving it since day one. The place is very clean. I think they take pride on that and it shows. All of the staff are ready to assist customers and they offer a free introductory class for those who want to try it. Give this place a try! After looking around through internet search we came across Charles Gracie Jiu - Jitsu even though it had some less than favorable reviews we liked the video on Covid-19 protocols this academy was implementing ( Very impressive) so we showed up for their free session and meet with Ryan whom by the way was fantastic! Supper nice and absolutely NO pressure! Throughout the whole process! Our son reported he had a great time but expressed concern over NO mask being worn and during activity his mask was removed as he quickly but it back on !! we are extremely saddened and deeply disappointed as we write this review as follows: 1. The Covid-19 Protocol that was shown on there website Video was extremely misleading and false! No temperature checks , only 1 person besides our son was wearing mask that we seen , no social distancing and even-though we stayed after class I did not see the cleaning protocol as shown on their website video! We are still in Covid and NOW delta variant and most kids are still unvaccinated but, Charles Gracie is acting like Pre-Covid times while this is indoors contact sport I thought this to be reckless! 2. If we wanted to join this academy: We live In Tracy Hills area and have money but, despite the fact we could pay Cash! Check or any other form of payment they still wanted us to sign a contract with (AAC) a 3rd party! Affiliated Acceptance Corporation (AAC) which had really BAD reviews , complaints with "BBB" and if you read these reviews and do your own investigation YOU BETTER GET YOURSELF PSYCHIATRIC HELP! What a AMAZING place!! I have my wife, 2 out of my 3 sons and myself training here. Also my nephew trains here and a lot of great friends. It is some of the best instruction around. Very technical! My whole family loves it and look forward to the long haul. My sons started about 4 years ago or so. My wife started about 2 years ago, my nephew started about 3-4 years ago, any myself, well my story is a bit stretched out over many years. But I am glad to say I hAve been back at it for the better part of year now. My whole families positive attitude, confidence, and health have increased. I don't worry about my sons being bullied at school because I know they can shut a bully down without even throwing a punch. GREAT FOR KIDS!! BOYS, GIRLS AND PARENTS, also it connects you with your child if you do it together! Quick story: My oldest son had a hard time with sparring for about the first 6 months, but the coaches (Riury, Chris at that time) took the time while class was going on to sit with him and talk him through his fear of sparring. I am so happy that they did that because now my oldest son has become a confident, strong, smart Jiu Jitsu technician and has won 2 silver medals and 1 GOLD at the tournaments. My wife can now tap other guys and her confidence and ability to handle herself has skyrocketed. Because you are always being challenged by your coach, your training partners and yourself. I signed up my son approximately 1 month ago. He is 5 years old and was a bit shy. They are not lying when they say they specialize in kids. The amount of detail in the instruction they give the kids I've noticed is 2nd to none. The things I love the most is that it's spotless inside, super clean. And The fact that there always seems to be 4 coaches during the kids practice. This is huge that they can give all the kids the attention needed to keep them engaged. Would recommend to all kids! This academy is fabulous, very paitent and helpful with the kids. My kids love it, they've learned so much on and off the mat. My son has autism and they gladly accepted him to train there. They are very kind and take the time to work with him, so he can do his best. There is no better training anywhere. You might think that all Brazilian Jiu Jitsu schools are created equally. I strongly recommend that you do your homework and consider the linage and validity of any school you are considering. I learned this the hard way, I wasted a year of my time and money on at Yoga Soul in Manteca that was a complete hoax. Then I found the local Charles Gracie Academy run by Sensei Jason Cortez where I received the greatest trained ever. I highly recommend this academy as well as it is part of the Charles Gracie family but also offers MMA classes and world class Kenpo. They have a very well rounded program and one of the best kids programs around. Charles is the grandson of Carlos Gracie who was the first in his family to develop Gracie Jiu Jitsu, and we could not be more fortunate to have this academy in the area. I am speaking from experience but also two of my children have trained here. Charles Gracie has one of the very best programs for Children you could ask for. You get what you pay for, and when you are looking for a program do not just look at cost. I signed my son up when he was 6 years old and while I think the facility and the instructors are great, I think the 1 year contract for small kids is ridiculous. The 1st year was okay, he didn't miss too much because of other sports but not long after signing up for a second year (my mistake) he decided to play football and missed 3 months. Gracie was nice enough to add 3 (free) months to the end of our contract but then came basketball and baseball and in the end we have paid for nearly a full year and he only went for a month... if that. So I have been donating $130/month to Gracie Jiu Jitsu. Note to self - Don't make that kind of commitment for a kid that just learned to tie his shoes. read more

I enrolled my son in this academy last April. We tried baseball, we tried soccer and he didn't seem to interested in any of those. Then we found this academy. They are amazingly welcoming to newbies. My son Sawyer is very shy and not super outgoing when it comes to new groups but I can see a change in him since he has been here. They don't pressure the kids to do the tournaments which is great. My son did one and realized he loves learning the sport but he just isn't much for competitions and I'm ok with that. The instructors are great with the kids my son loves them all. They are encouraging and they keep them motivated to come each week and I love that. I want to thank Charles Garcie Jiu-Jitsu Academy for helping me, a 35 year old, get in the best shape of my life. I joined the academy about a year ago after taking some private lessons. Being a female in a predominantly male activity maybe a bit intimidating before stepping into the mat but the instructors and students are very professional and courteous. The women students have grown and we now have our first female Black Belt here at the Tracy Academy! This is not an easy feat. I've trained in 3 other disciplines for a total of 9 years prior to my training here. My daughter has been going there for over 2 years and myself for about 4 months now. The Gracie's are an amazing and humble family. They put their heart and soul into their academies. Instruction is top notch and they really care about the development of your technique. There's always a large variety of skill levels in each class. The coaching usually consist of at least a black belt and 2-3 coaches which range from blue belt on up. Kids classes are 50min long which i think is perfect for their short attention span. The youth classes build a strong foundation and teach self confidence and anti-bullying. Adult classes are 90 minutes long. First part is warm up and conditioning. This is probably the hardest part of the class depending on which instructor is teaching. Second part is technique and drills. Last part is sparring where you grapple live with one of your training partners. Ive trained at other Jiu-Jitsu academies and this one is differently ran. It's ran by a traditional Brazilian. You bow before you step on and off the mat, wear academy gi's, greet the higher belts first, etc. Theres a lot of discipline involved so egos stay at the door. Be warned, Jiu-Jitsu is not like other martial arts- it's a life journey. You have to put in serious work to graduate to the next belt. They're earned based on the your progression so getting promoted is a huge accomplishment. I've never had an issue with contracts or payment. They are very flexible and will work with you. All in all - this is a fantastic place with great people running it. They recently moved to a much larger facility and its awesome. If you're thinking about training in a martial art, please consider Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. It is the most useful martial art out there. read more
