This was our first time parking at Opera Plaza Garage (under Max's Café), and it turned out to be an excellent alternative to the Civic Center area. It is valet‑only, and the parking price was clearly advertised -- we paid $30. The waiting area is clean, which made the experience even more comfortable. Despite being valet, the pricing here is still competitive. Civic Center garages often charge a flat event rate, which is not necessarily cheaper. Norman, the attendant who parked and retrieved our car, was friendly, efficient, and professional. There were not many people when we arrived, so we were quite lucky with the wait time (I understand the experience can be different if there is a long line)! We will definitely return to this garage the next time we attend the SF Symphony. read more

Avoid this valet if you value your time. The biggest problem is getting your car back. There is only one guy, and the process is incredibly inefficient. Instead of taking your claim ticket and retrieving your car he collects tickets from a group of people first, then brings the cars back one by one. If you arrive at the wrong time, you have to wait for him to finish returning the current batch before he'll even take your ticket. Then, after he takes it, he starts collecting tickets and payments from everyone else before going back to retrieve more cars. You end up waiting twice. Expect a long wait just to leave. For the price they charge they should have a second attendant during busy periods. I wouldn't use this valet again unless I had no other option. read more

I was able to book it online before I arrived, and it was a very smooth and easy experience from check-in to checkout. When we pulled in, the attendant, Norman, told me it was valet parking only, $7 an hour. Opera Plaza Garage is well-lit, feels safe, 3-4 employees working. So close to Civic Center it's best to park your car here inside a garage than risk a break in on the street. But when we returned, it was like the warden telling Cool Hand Luke, "I think what we have here is a failure to communicate" It was an issue on my side as well as theirs: I couldn't find my ticket so he asked to check my license ("for the boss") but then he photocopied it! I voiced my concern about identity theft and was stunned he did it. Keep in mind, there was no identifying license information on my tagged car key so I don't know what they were doing copying my license, felt creepy. Couldn't find my ticket so they said, "It's okay". I misunderstood that meant they were going to let me slide, charge me for two hours and call it good. Nope. Unwilling to pay $28 instead of $14, plowed through my crazy bag and found the stub. He then gave me the copy of my license like it was a hostage exchange: Stub in exchange for photocopy. By the time they brought up my car, I was so salty I couldn't hide an eye roll and nearly tossed my tip at the valet. It wasn't a good night but I'd still recommend the garage. I was in a bind and needed to charge my car, and the only nearby option was the Opera Plaza parking lot. The catch? It's valet only, and they charge an extra $7 on top of your EV charging fee. In total, I paid $21, which honestly isn't too bad considering the location and convenience. TESLA SUPERCHARGER REVIEW On the supercharger map, this location is indicated as valet only. I was desperate for a charge before my Tesla appointment and was willing to pay valet fees so I could charge up. I pulled into the garage, and saw there was a $7 hourly rate to park. A man came out of the office and informed me it's just hourly rate (not actual valet), gave me a ticket thing and buzzed me into the garage. Three left turns and one right turn, and I was at a set of 12 chargers. These chargers charge 270-305mi/hr. The supercharger rate is $0.21/kwhr even during peak hours so it would cost the same to charge $7 worth here ($7 in charging + $7 garage fee) as it would to go to another charger and pay $0.41/kwhr. Plus the location is convenient if you have a Tesla appointment at the Van Ness location. Annoying that it costs $7 for an hour but better than driving to City Center and paying the same rate and then driving back out to Van Ness Tesla. read more

Chris and his team are always courteous, helpful and I appreciate the friendly waves and "hellos" on our way in and out. Not having to worry about the smash&grabs in the neighborhood makes the cost well worth it and after having parked at various garages around the area, this is the one where we have had the best and easiest dealings. If you want a safe place to park and feel safe coming and going. Highly recommend this parking garage. Staff were very nice and accommodating to my need of having to get stuff out and put stuff in when I need to. Great place to leave your car. I parked here for ~10 months from late 2019 until Aug 2020. I had a dedicated spot on P2 (which is secure and tough to access) and must mention upfront that I never had to use valet, it was always self-parked. The staff here have been extremely helpful, good-natured and flexible through the entire time. There were times where I needed some extra help or flexibility with parking, and they were always communicative and supportive. The manager, Chris, is currently running a lean staff of +2, and all three have been great to work with. This is a 100% unsolicited review. If you're using valet or parking on P1, you may want to do your homework. If you're a resident and on P2, I can recommend! I'm very particular about cars, and didn't have any issues. read more

Not so great as a Tesla supercharging spot. Super tight spots, especially if a other Tesla owner parked like an idiot. Columns placed super close, along with tight aisles. It's a scrape on your car waiting to happen. $7 an hour to park, on top of charging fees. Not worth it. Only good thing is the city hall area is an interesting area to walk around. read more

However, when I got my vehicle back there was a huge dent in the rear and no one said anything about it. It is the end of the business day on Friday so now I have to wait the weekend to do anything about it. The Tesla Supercharging at this garage is definitely not recommended. Bad experience the car owner cannot even stay in the car for rest. If I were to have more mileage will drive further south to other charging station. read more

Been using this garage for 16 years. Enter on Turk Street (between Van Ness & Franklin). Use the middle lane for public parking. This garage is 24 hours a day, and completely valet. If you're coming to an event, come early... it's a popular parking spot for the symphony, ballet, opera house, Billy Graham, etc. to exit the garage you can either take stairs or an elevator. ADA friendly. The same valet attendants have been running this place for a few years. Very nice guys. It's not cheap (duh, it's SF), but it's very safe. read more

Worst parking experience of my life. I park at this garage several times a month, spending $30+ each time. I'm patient because it's all valet. Today I waited 15 minutes and no one came to park my car. I walked down and asked if there was an ETA and the manager said, "you haven't been waiting 15 minutes" in a rude tone and continues to berate me about his terrible day. I have an event tonight at Opera Plaza and chose to park off site rather than give my money to a place that allows their staff to treat people that way. Horrible experience! Took about 30 minutes to get our car last evening after a concert. Many, many people waiting in line. The valets were friendly and I'm sure overworked, but nevertheless, nobody should have to wait this long to get their car. Definitely better planning and staffing is needed. As an aside, designing a garage that requires a valet is just poor planning, as it automatically dictates the need for valets, and thus, guaranteed delays, even when not busy. I will never park here again because of this, as there are many other choices in the area where you can get your car yourself. read more

Simply put, park elsewhere. After waiting a minute or two for an attendant so that I can pay and get my car I was charged an additional hour because by the time they checked my receipt I was 2 minutes over (no joke) and they charged me for the full hour. When I questioned the attendant he rudely said they are instructed to charge for another hour if the time comes up "1 minute over." Bottom line, this is not a friendly place to park. read more

I've used this garage a couple of times now, and it's surprisingly easy. Wait times were under 5 minutes (Sun afternoon) and they accept validation from the Opera Plaza cinema. Since my car was broken into on Golden Gate street a few months ago, I won't park outside in this neighborhood anymore. read more
