I did some research on the gyms near my sister's home in Naples. Addicted to fitness seemed like the best bet but was concerned if it had enough of the equipment I needed based on reading the website. For a change it was the website underselling just how good this place really is. Image you were a billionaire and had your own gym for you and your friends to use. What would I expect? That it wouldn't be a massive set of treadmills it wouldn't be a pocket gym with no manager just a card. The place would have been decorated not feel like a basement. The staff would welcome you by name. There'd be free wi-fi access to water and coffee and men and woman's bathrooms with showers. The machines would be new and in pristine shape. Owners Jon and Michelle were welcoming and actually took the time to show me which machines I'd need to do each part of my routine. Normally YOYO unless you have a trainer. But yes they have those too. Paraphrasing Ms Riding hood not too big not too small just right. And did I mention the free wifi and being called by name?

The trainers are all knowledgeable. They will call you by your first name. You will soon know most everyone's first name. If you want a challenge, take Jon's Saturday morning TRX class or Patty's Monday and Wednesday evening Boot Camp.

I never planned on having a stroke at 47 years old. I needed to walk again, I needed to use my…read moreright arm again. I needed to drive again. I was determined.   After the initial care I received, I stopped making progress.  I continued looking for someone who could help me.  I tried physical therapy for stroke rehab but was doing the same thing every time and getting nowhere.  I even tried hyperbaric chambers, all sorts of nutrition and supplements.  Something wasn't working.  My right shoulder, elbow, hand and fingers were useless.  My arm was forever bent at the elbow and wouldn't swing when I walked.  Doctors had me using a device that would make my ankle bend when I walked because it wouldn't do it on its own.   I was using a cane to walk and getting rides and taking Uber everywhere.  My independence had faded.  I needed someone that wasn't just going to follow what insurance dictates. I needed someone to look at me as an individual with a unique situation to help find my unique way to get better.   I needed a change.   I started researching and interviewing people.  I was stuck between traditional medical solutions and the fitness world.  I was speaking to trainers who thought that exercising me was the solution.  That's all physical therapy was already doing.  I finally found Jay at Symmetry.  I had never heard of "Muscle System Care" so I wondered how helpful it could be.  I was also forced to realize everything that I had heard of, wasn't helping.  I went to talk to him with many thoughts and questions. "I have a lot of challenges, can he help me?  Will he motivate me and push me? Does he really understand how complicated recovery is?  How can something I've never heard of help me?"    Today I no longer use that electric stim on my ankle when I walk.  I no longer use a cane.  I use my arm and hand to open jars, pick up and hold things, and carry my purse - normal, everyday things.    People ask me if I broke my leg or what happened.  No one ever thinks I had a stroke anymore.  Every visit to my neurologist he tells me he's happy with my progress and that I should continue with Jay.  Sometimes it's challenging when I see new people come in to see Jay and have their issues resolved so quickly, but they just come in with pain. I came in when no one else could help.  And while its been a long road and there's still a longer one ahead, I'm thankful I finally found someone that could help when no doctor, therapist or specialist could.

Symmetry is a small personal training center that is NOTHING like big corporate gyms. Walking into…read moreSymmetry is like walking into Cheers because everyone who works there knows you and genuinely cares about you. I can't come up with a good TV show analogy for interacting with other clients and it's hard to describe how you end up feeling supported and supportive of another client working out across the room but you do. There is something about Symmetry that makes everyone feel comfortable, relaxed, and included and that is so unusual in the best way. It's something you'll feel when you walk in the door. And fair warning, you can also expect to have Jay throw something at you as you walk in and yet strangely, you look forward to it. The best way to get a sense of what it's like to be a Symmetry client is to take advantage of the free consultation offer. But if you're like me & want a sense before u set foot inside the door then u should check out the testimonials on their website. I tried to cut & paste mine here but it exceeded the text limit! Actually everybody should read the testimonials. When u look at their testimonials you will see the diversity of the clientele and how much we care about the gym & our respective trainers. The testimonials offer a very detailed and genuine peek into the gym so to speak. It's rare for a gym to get so many clients to actually write out testimonial -- even rarer for them to be so open and personal. That's true with respect to Facebook too. How many gym's have pages that customers actively engage with? They go beyond sharing just fitness info and celebrate their clients on that page & their clients appreciate it (yes, I am speaking from experience ). Symmetry is a like personalized gym community -- whoever u train with is going to work WITH you to accomplish YOUR goals. Everybody at the gym is going to cheer you on whatever those may be.
