I had a most positive experience at Optimal Health Chiropractic on Ribaut Rd. as a hopeful new patient. Both Renae and Cher were so professional and welcoming, truly interested in patient care. I had a very thorough evaluation, with Cher investing a solid hour of her time with me. She was very informative and conscientious in her assessment to establish a baseline and plan of care. That was followed by another half hour with Dr. McKelvey as he confirmed areas of need, explained the process, and advised possible treatment. However, because of my current health issues, I was unable to utilize their services. His conservative and cautious approach to my specific cancer and its mix with chiropractic care was a rarity, proving that he is about patients' needs first, above business needs. After the extensive, time-consuming testing and counseling, they didn't even charge me, though I was insistent in paying for their time and expertise. Optimal Health Chiropractic offers a professional chiropractic experience. My experience with Optimal Health started with moving to the area and back issues followed me as well. Typically, I have problems in my neck but this time the pain showed up in the lower back. It needed attention and it wasn't going to fix itself (and they never do). I was able to schedule an appointment the next day. This group does a thorough on-boarding process and doesn't skip over anything. Within the first couple visits, the flare up was resolved and my typical issues were being addressed. It has been a great experience and the most comprehensive chiropractic care I have ever received. Where do I begin! This place is Heaven sent! The level of CARE, attentiveness and customer service is awesome! I walked into their clinic in excruciating pain hoping to book the next available appointment. Without even asking, due to the level of pain I was in, they REFUSED to make me wait a week for a consult appt and saw me same day! The Dr was VERY thorough and detailed. And most importantly he was very informative. 10/10 recommend! Within the first week of adjustments and physical therapy exercises (yes! He focuses on the physical therapy part too!! Awesome right?!) Dr. Mckelvey is straight up about your issues, he will take the time to discuss and if needed recommend alternative therapies including physical therapy and in my case both PT and dry needling, but of which helped. This is by far the worst Chiropractor or any other doctor I have ever been to. He is so rude. I am an Air Force Veteran who served 17 years in the Air Force. I was recently medically retired. I am currently 21 weeks pregnant. The night prior to visiting this practice I tossed and turned because of the pain in my back, neck, and hip. I have had issues with my neck, back, and hip over the last 5 years PRIOR to pregnancy. I called this location to see if they had any availability for any walk ins. They told me to come as soon as I got off the phone. I ran into this office and waited 2 hours for the chiropractor. After listening to the chiropractor standing outside the door talking about a baseball game for at least 10 minutes I decided I should leave. I went to the check out and spoke to the lady at the front. She went to the Chiropractor and told him I wanted to checkout and he said "well then let her check out, see how people are when you try to do them a favor." This is not a favor, I was paying for the services. If they didn't have availability I could've just went some where else. I was a paying customer who had waited patiently for 2 hours. I asked how much longer and he harshly said we were going to work through our lunch to help you. We were standing outside the door discussing your case." I heard the whole conversation over the last 15 minutes and none of it included my case. At this point I'm desperate because I am in pain. I went inside the room for the exam and the disrespect just continued. He just kept telling me he had a busy practice and a bunch of other rude statements. We started to go over the new patient paperwork. It asked if you have disability and I stated yes. He was questioning my VA disability some of which has absolutely nothing to do with my visit. He literally was questioning the legitimacy of my disabilities stating they were genetic and the military didn't cause it. I was a military police (security forces) for a big portion of my military career, I have been to IRAQ twice, did combat training, wearing heavy gear for 15 hour shifts, going through obstacle courses with 50 pounds of gear on my back, kicking in doors and carrying grown men across my back, dragging men, and training for years. He had the audacity to tell me it was genetic although I had been seeing other doctors and professionals for the last 17 years! I didn't have ANY back pain before joining the military. None of my family has these "genetic issues." Although some causes can be genetic that is not the only way to have the issues I have. In addition to other issues, I have 4 bulging discs in my lumbar spine and I highly doubt I was born like that. I was fighting back tears the whole time. Finally at the end of this visit I just broke down. I'm pregnant, I had a rough night, I'm in pain, I hadn't eaten all morning because they told me to come right in.....I still was unable to get adjusted because he needed my previous medial documentation. I left with the same physical pain and just unnecessary emotional trauma. I will NEVER go back to this office. He apologized at the end but it was way too late. The disrespect and attitude of this chiropractor was despicable. This should have never happened. This totally ruined my day. NEVER AGAIN! When I called back after to ensure I didn't have any follow up appointments, the lady at the front desk called me "the little girl" who just was here during lunch. I am 34 years old. They are just unprofessional. read more

Thanks to Dr. McKelvey, I am on an affordable schedule of regular adjustments and in three years of care have had very few "incidents" where my back or Sacroiliac Joint goes out. I used to go to other chiropractors only when I had an incident (usually very painful, could hardly walk or even stand up), but with Optimal Health I go every two weeks and keep my back issues at bay. I cautiously recommend this chiropractor if you are looking for a long term proactive corrective program that you can maintain for years to come. (It seems most of his patients become regular once a month maintainers and are very happy to come.) Anyway, I say cautiously because it initially requires a major commitment and investment in both time and money. While his prices and terms are reasonable, it requires numerous visits up front, especially for the first year. I took away one star because at times, he can seem a bit inflexible - like he doesn't realize people had lives prior to beginning his treatment program. He needs to remember his patients are adults and ultimately responsible for their own well being and need enough autonomy and respect to be allowed to make their own choices. read more

I cannot say enough nice things about Dr. McKelvey and the staff at Optimal Health Chiropractic. I've had so many issues with neck and shoulder pain, and this was my last resort. My initial visit was a very thorough examination followed up by another visit to discuss treatment. I made it very clear that the only way I could continue was if I could bring my 9 month old daughter with me as I have no one to watch her. They had no problem with that. In fact they have been more than accommodating even watching my daughter while I get adjusted. They get to know you on a personal level which is more than I can say for a lot of other medical professionals, and they actually care. Which is how they learned my daughter had acid reflux and issues with constipation. I will say I was unsure about having her adjusted, but I was will info to try if it meant being able to take her off the medication. After three adjustments I was able to half her doses and after the fourth I took her off the medication completely and she's been doing great! I would highly recommend them to anyone having issues, but for sure if your child is suffering with acid reflux or constipation. If you're considering going, just pick up the phone and call and make the appointment! You won't regret it! read more

I suffered a fall down the stairs in 2007 and landed on my tailbone. Shortly after that, I was diagnosed with a neuromuscular condition called Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease which affects the hands, legs and feet...causing muscle atrophy. My gait is severely affected by CMT. I started going to Optimal Health Chiropractic in late 2014 due to extreme lower back pain. This is something I have experiences for YEARS as well as the occasional stiff neck. After ONE adjustment, my lower back pain was gone...GONE. I haven't had a flare up since.
