Is 6 stars an option? I have never been so enthusiastic after leaving a medical office. I'm not the type of person who goes out of my way to leave reviews but this experience is the exception. First of all I am 49 years of age and have seen many physical therapists, chiropractors, Massage therapists, dietitians, etc over the years in many different states to keep me healthy and functioning optimally. I am so used to these offices just trying to get me in with minimal exams (minimal knowledge of my case), minimal case history (not knowing all my injuries and how they occurred over the years), a few generic pieces of paper signed, get a non specific treatment and then come back whenever I think I need it. First of all I am not a doctor so I don't know and need a doctor to tell me based upon objective testing and knowledge what my problems are and what my options are. The same reason I go to the mechanic because cars are not my area of expertise so I need the expert mechanic to inform and advise me. In other words when I go to the doctor I expect a doctor's office who takes the time to get to know me and the specifics of my case and this is what I get with Optimal Performance Health Care Center, a team that is aware of the specifics of my case and are ready and able to help me. The team informed me upfront of their office policies and their expectations of their patients, which is refreshing. What I really expect and what I received is a in depth consultation with the doctor to feel he really understands exactly what my health problems are and how they affect my life. After all if the doctor and team do not know they can not help me. I also received two objective examinations and a complete set of xrays of my spine before I received any treatment. In my experience if a in depth consultation with the doctor, objective testing and xrays are not performed thoroughly before being treated by the doctor then that place gives chiropractic/physical therapy a bad name. Optimal Performance restored my faith in Chiropractic professionals who take their patients health seriously and isn't just trying to get the patient in and started in treatment. They actually placed me on a extensive treatment plan because my case is complicated and my symptoms have bothered me for a long time. I actually have a schedule of weekly visits, which I always knew I needed but no other doctor ever informed me about. This is a true doctor's office that take their patients care very seriously. I was skeptical at first, especially since the first appointments were informative and and not corrective. I wanted to get my adjustments underway as soon as possible. What I didn't understand was that before they accepted me as a patient they first reviewed medical history, had x-rays done at MDI to see what other conditions or issues might be present, and did a full exam and measurements of my range of motion. I'm not glad that Dr. V was comprehensive in understanding what my needs were and not just what I thought my needs were. He also didn't just take my money and give me a crack to satisfy what I thought I wanted out of the appointments. Each time I return I get more information on health and wellness. I was given an explanation of the full program he suggested for my care, the overall cost (up front), and options for payment. He also always gave the option of relief care rather than full restorative care as a less-recommended, but more affordable option. I think most people mis-understand chiro care as simple back or neck cracking and Optimal Health provides full-care. This includes multiple appointments per week to make sure your alignment stays in place, rehab exercises in office for at least a few weeks to get you strengthening and stretching appropriately, and STEM electrical treatment for 10-15 min each appointment for pain management of the muscles. It is all explained on the web site. Appointments start off 2 hours each and them reduces every 6 weeks or so. Because of my needs and insurance, included in my cost were custom orthotics, and a portable STEM machine to keep and use at home after my in-office treatments ended. After appointments dwindle from 3/week to 2/week and 1/week, then there are 1/month checks for 6 months -- all included in the original cost. I figure I have so far received around 80 hours of adjustments and rehab, orthotics, and a stem machine and I have 3 more weekly appointments and the 6 monthly appointments all for a few thousand dollars which amounts to paying around $35/hour plus the free STEM and Orthotics which both cost a few hundred dollars. That is cheap for a Dr. - just do the math. I learned about Dr. V because my mom and dad both have seen him for back and neck pain. My sons now also see him for FREE children's evaluations and adjustments. read more

I am posting because I saw bad reviews, which I hope to dispel. At Optimal Performance, patients receive a package of services tailored to their particular case, which include chiro, PT, medical massage, medical diagnostics and nutrition. I did not have the assistance of insurance and so I chose to pay upfront for the amount of therapy their testing indicated I needed, and I never would've thought it would be so amazing to start with three treatments a week, but I soon learned that my body really needed them and then managed to wean down to one time per week as my symptoms were relieved and then one time per month once my spine was corrected and stabilized. In my experience, working with everyone at Optima Performance has been a pleasure, from the front desk to the physical therapists, and even the financial folks who help you get to where you need to be in terms of getting services settled. Every person has treated me like I am part of the family, which just makes me feel so relaxed when I'm going to get this type of treatment done. I have been Dr. Van Westen's patient and I have always felt safe, comfortable, and have been adjusted both manually and by the Ultralign system which I love because it is so gentle and effective, which is an amazing machine of which Dr. V is a master. I now only go for maintenance visits, and whenever I do I am greeted warmly and given the same care that I received for the eight years that I have been seeing Dr. V. I am allowed to use the physical therapy equipment if I am having a rough time with my back, and I'm always encouraged to eat better, sleep more, and take good care of myself. Dr. V has a Zen like quality, which is great when you're having somebody infuse energy into your spine. Whatever has been said by negative reviewers seems like an aberration from what's really going on at Optimal Performance. I recommended it to family members and friends and have had positive feedback from those who have come for treatment. read more

I had suffered for over 10 years with digestive disorders that were causing migraines. I had tried pain pills, diet changes, medical doctors, home remedies, rest, relaxation, surgery and nothing helped then my friend said that he went to Optimal Performance Health Care Center for low back pain and neck pain and that his energy, strength, vitality, and endurance all increased and he had been free from neck and back pain for over a year now and so I thought that I would give it a try and so I did and I am very grateful that I did. The doctor and I had an in depth discussion about my health and how it had been affecting my life and I received all the appropriate testing and Dr. Van Westen discovered that he could help me since the symptoms I was having were caused by misaligned vertebrae in my back that were causing damage to my nervous system. We discussed other possible causes and we decided to begin a course of treatment 3 times a week and he placed me on a special diet with natural supplements and also a cleanse and detoxification protocol along with weekly adjustments to my spine and physical exercise to stabilize the muscle along the spine. The whole process was very informative and each step of the way was explained to me and it has now been 6 month since the end of my initial treatment program and I am now free of digestive problems and I no longer suffer from migraines. I now go in for monthly adjustments to keep my body functioning properly. The only regrett is that I did not find Dr. Van Westen and Optimal Performance Health Care Center sooner. I have been to many chiropractors and physical therapist and medical doctors for my problems over the years and the results were minimal at best. I was referred by one of my long time most trusted friends to see the Doctor at Optimal Performance. My friend suggest that I go into the consultation with an open mind since she had also seen other providers for her problems in the past and so I did go in with an open mind and the Doctor and I spent 45 minutes talking about my health problems and how they had progressed over the years and afterwards I received a detailed exam and he informed me what the test indicated. I was referred out for X-rays and I returned the next day for recommendations. I received my first treatment and immediately felt an improved sense of wellness. Over the next couple of days the Doctor performed all the necessary testing to see if he could except my case and to come up with a treatment program. He explained all the details of the exams and testing and I began my treatment program and I have been faithful to the program and I no longer have any aches or pains and I now know how to take care of myself when I am out of the office. Great customer service, Dr. Van Westen always spends the needed amount of time with me on every appointment, I feel very taken care of. He is always prepared for each visit and I never have waited for more than a minute of two. My phone calls are returned immediately if I must miss a visit. He is excellent at explaining the purpose and goals of each exercise and procedure. The office atmosphere is relaxing and soothing. My results have been nothing short of amazing. My concentration, mood, sleep, breathing have all improved which I did not even seek help for. The pain in my neck, low back and knees are gone and my headaches are now a thing of the past. The therapeutic massage, chiropractic and physical therapy techniques Dr. Van Westen uses are gentle and effective. I was having severe headaches everyday after a car accident and was seeking relief in order to get my life back. Originally, I went to a medical doctor, but I soon realized that was a terrible idea since I was only prescribed medication. I sought for a solution desperately, and so I was refereed to Optimal Performance Health Care Center. Although I had many appointments to begin with, I understand why due to their careful treatment plan for me, and in a few short weeks my headaches began diminishing in severity and occurrences. Overall, my health progressed wonderfully and I could live happily without ongoing pain. With time the amount of appointments I had to schedule went down the healthier I got. In addition, the staff was very accommodating to my schedule, for I am a busy college student that works full time. That being said the staff, though small, is magnificent and very knowledgeable as well as considerate and caring. A great experience and a great value. Dr. Van Westen was able to educate me about my health problems in a way that I could understand. Simple, yet effective. I had problems for 25 years and no other doctors could help me. I think it was the comprehensive approach and the doctors ability to use many different therapies to target my problems. Dr. VanWesten and his staff are amazing! I have been going there for a few months now, and I've improved vastly. Before coming here I was just kind of existing. I couldn't walk or move around without being in severe pain, and even everyday tasks like doing the dishes or walking the dog were enough to exhaust me for the rest of the day. Now I'm doing those things with no problems at all. Before coming here a long walk was pretty much out of the question, and the other day I went for a 1.5-mile walk with my fiance and our dog and still had the energy to make dinner. This place has changed my life for the better. It's a little pricey, but they are willing to work with you to make paying easy. The staff is lovely, and Dr. VanWesten is the best. I met Dr Van Westen in early January2012 at the YMCA.I was a member of the Y for about 6 months.
