This is a phenomenal practice with skilled therapists. Every single person I have seen here has been excellent. This is my second time in physical therapy (for different reasons) and I came back to Optimum because of my incredibly positive experience the last time (2 years ago). I'm shocked I didn't write a review back then! Im here to get treatment on my back after having a baby. Being pregnant took a toll on my body and an MRI revealed 2 herniated discs. So far all my sessions begin with a few minutes on a stim machine, with a hot compress. After that, my therapist will do manual work/massge therapy on my back (my favorite part!) and at the end she will guide me through exercises. I really love that they don't just give me a piece of paper, direct me toward a machine, & let me do the exercise on my own (lots of PT practices do exactly that) but rather my PT is right there with me, guiding me through the exercises and making sure my form and position are correct. They also have a really need portal you can log into where your therapist sends you an exercise program for you to do at home. That portal offers a shirt description.of each exercise, including a 'how to' video and there's even a space for you to send notes to your therapist. When you complete an exercise you get "points". It's super motivating for me and gameifying homework is always a plus. Outside of that the office is always clean & presentable. The staff is very friendly (entire staff from reception to interns to PTs) and professional. I've seen a few of the PTs here and they're all amazing. This is a really special place and I actually looking forward to my sessions! Kinda weird to write such a detailed review of a PT office but I love them that much and I'm slowly feeling and getting better and better so I had to give them props and show some love. This place is beyond terrible. The do not have a schedule they adhere to. They book people as they come to maximize profits. The space is very small as you can not even stretch out both arms and they will start late and finish early with exercises to get you out as fast as possible. This place seems like a "cash grab" scam as they offer no real services and if you are claustrophobic, I definitely do not recommend. They will put in a room smaller than a closet read more

WONDERFUL!! The team is excellent. Feliz really knows how to stretch you, and work on the particular area that currently needs help. I always feel better after going. She is also so sweet and friendly. She knows everything when it comes to getting out the toxins, and just special physical therapy tricks I have not seen before. Her education in the field is really impressive. She gives me stretches to do at home too. Ramone is a marathon runner, does a great job (you might be soar the next day-but that's a good thing--means it's working my back). He's so kind and he always tells me "say hi to your Dad" because he saw I had a running race t-shirt once and asked about it. I told him it was my Dad that actually ran the race. After a visit, I actually get inspired to go for a jog after the stretches! Jenny at the front desk has amazing customer service skills. She's very patient with my scheduling. She has a very positive attitude:) The personal trainer I work with is great too, focusing on improving my back strength. He gives me strength training to work on there before I leave. The whole team works together. The atmosphere is actually HAPPY :) Yesterday I wasn't feeling well and Catherine asked if I needed anything. I even love the waiting area (lol-always new reading material). But I never have to wait more than a minute or two. Don't go anywhere else for physical therapy!! The physical therapy is not bad. But their billing is horrible. I have had to show on multiple occasions my credit card history to show I had already paid. I am still getting bills for copays from 6 months past that we're paid the same time as visit in office. Avoid unless you have lots of time and patience to deal with their billing or you don't mind paying twice for one visit. read more

I go the Optimum PT in Bay Ridge facility. The team there is friendly and professional! The facility is clean. I recommend Optimum PT because their therapist really understands physiology; they explain how the body works, where the pain is located, and how to use physical therapy to treat it. Early last year, our neurologist prescribed physical therapy for my husband and me - he has knee problems which affect his gait, I have multiple spinal problems causing nerve pain in my lower back and legs, and surgery would have been risky for both of us. We needed a PT place not too far from home which accepted Medicare, so we opted for Optimum - and it turned out to be the best health decision we ever made! OHPT looks unassuming from the outside - it's in the lower level of a brownstone on Bay Ridge's "doctors' row". The reception area is small but comfortable and inviting, and the front desk staff are helpful, laid-back, and efficient. But when you're called to the main treatment area - wow! Like Doctor Who's TARDIS it's a lot bigger on the inside, with a fully equipped gym and several one-on-one curtained treatment areas with comfortable adjustable beds and advanced TENS machines for electronic pain therapy. Before your active exercise session in the gym, you receive individual passive treatment from one of the friendly, upbeat PTs in one of these treatment areas, including targeted TENS therapy ("good vibrations" to relax your aching back and/or shoulder muscles), gentle heating pads, expert deep tissue massage (aaaah, lovely!), and what I've affectionately named "pretzelization" - where the therapist bends, stretches, crosses, pushes, and generally extends your leg muscles to the max to loosen them for your active exercise session (ouch, ouch, ouch.... but no pain, no gain, and it really works!). After that, you're ready to actively exercise in OHPT's well-equipped gym. The therapists are top-notch, creating a program of exercise specifically targeting the problem areas according to your physician's recommendation. In my case, that included leg lifts, back arches, arm lifts with a lightweight bar, pulling tension straps, exercising my shoulders with moderate hand weights, and "pedaling" with a rotating arm exercise machine. My husband's exercises included leg lifts, but he did the "pedaling" with his legs to help his knee problem. Through it all, the PTs were attentive, helpful, encouraging, and fun - using both humor and motivational comments that challenged us to improve and extend our level of exercise with each visit. After our Medicare PT coverage for 2019 ran out, we took a hiatus from treatment, but the therapists gave us printouts of exercises we could do at home - and this spring we plan to return to Optimum to continue our treatments there. After some diligent research, I made an appointment here with Jason to work on my shoulders, wrists and neck pain. I've had 3 sessions so far and have noticed improvement in range of motion and less pain! Jason is very knowledgeable and patient. When you have pain it's hard to let someone work on it unless you trust them. He's definitely gained my trust and I look forward to a promising recovery. Another plus about this place is that it's super clean and masks are worn by all at all times. All the workers are incredibly nice and professional which is a huge plus for me. read more

I was scheduled to have knee replacement surgery and decided to go to Optimum Health Physical Therapy in Bay Ridge. My goal was to walk without any restrictions. So Francis cured me. I had two slipped discs in my back as per mri and was in TONS of pain. Optimum was the second place I tried. The first place basically did nothing. This place is awesome. I have 3 herniated discs, I've been to a few different physical therapists and these guys are just cut from a different cloth than everyone else I've seen. Francis, Sue, and Tony all seem to work in tandem getting to the root of the issue. In other places it was a crap shoot on whether I'd get the "good" therapist. These 3 all rock. This is the first place that I've had so much hands on treatment, and honestly i think thats what i needed. How the other places didn't think to help me work out the giant knots in my lower back amazes me. Only after seeing these guys did i realize how bad the rest were. In the last few places they would use a large pad type massager which didn't really help. These guys will get in there with their fingers, hands, knuckles, elbows, knees, i think i saw a foot once :) , and really work the problem area. You will scream while they do it, but it feels soooooo good after. While I'm not 100% yet, i went in there around lets say 50% about 3 months ago. I couldn't walk, stand, or sit for very long due to the pain. I feel as if I'm at 95% right now. Im fully confident they will get me to 100. I can get through the day with no problems right now. Also the staff is really nice, its never crowded, the music is never the crappy "massage cd" of waves and birds or something its seriously good, and you rarely wait more than 5-10 min for your appointed time which really means a lot when you are in pain! read more

My affliction, such as it is, is relatively uncommon, but Tony was familiar with its causes, its effects, and -- most importantly -- its location. He went straight at the spot of my injury (many, many others missed by miles) and in one session I felt much better (gone was the limp). I was referred here earlier in the year for physical therapy for my backWhen I came the first time, I could barely stand because if two herniated discs. Well after two sessions, I could really move a lot better and after a month I was only experiencing soreness rather than pain. Not only are they through in their muscle work, but they teach you how to exercise and stet h in your own so that you can manage between sessions. Appointments are easy to get and the hours are great. The staff and therapists are friendly and professional so the environment is great. I travel from midtown Manhattan to here for my sessions and then home to Flatbush so you know they're worth it! read more

I've given this review and the response a lot of thought over the past couple of months. I was able to find a great PT practice that was right for me and would probably be perfect for the guy with anxiety except that his review is hidden. What I needed was for the P/T to oversee my exercises so that she could see my progress for herself and make adjustments as needed, for consistency in my exercises and for any changes in my treatment to be driven by my individual needs rather than by how crowded the office was that day. Perhaps I would not have ended up needing surgery, but I did end up needing surgery. So I guess that the lesson is that just because a p/t has lots of 5 star reviews doesn't mean that it's your 5 star p/t. Old review: I guess that I am going to be the one non 5-star rating on Optimum Health PT. It's not because of the therapists or the employees, they are great. Optimum does things on a sort of assembly line which in theory is great. While your therapist is busy with another patient, someone else applies 15 minutes of tens and a 3 minutes of ultrasound. Then a massage and some stretching with your therapist and lastly some exercise. That's all great on a good day. Out of 19 appointments 16 of them were with the same physical therapist. The initial tens & ultrasound would be administered by various people and I would always have to tell them which shoulder to apply care to. The exercise would be overseen by many different people, some were great and some were just ok. Why did this place lose 2 stars? Because frequently they were overbooked and my care was inconsistent compared to experiences I have had in the past (this is my 4th time in physical therapy). It would not be unusual for me to have exercise first, then some massage and stretching and no tens therapy or have the tens therapy and massage followed by exercise with no stretching...and so on. You get what I mean. Ultrasound, and I don't know that 3 minutes of ultrasound does anything, was given sometimes and not other times and I could never figure out why. I tolerated all of this because I really really liked my physical therapist and that really is the most important thing. The last straw occurred during a recent snow storm. I got no message that the office was closed and when I called there was no message on the machine indicating that they were closed. I assumed that they were but I did leave a message asking to reschedule my appointment. I never heard back from them. If not for all of the weirdness of my appointments with them, I might have been more understanding. I like everyone here a lot, I think that they are pretty good. I am doing a lot better. It looks to me that they have grown too fast. They have outgrown their space and when it gets busy they seem to get disorganized. Also, This is not a problem for me, but it's not handicapped accessible. read more

It's too bad you can only give 5 stars on Yelp because Optimum Health and their staff deserve more than that! For most of my adult life, I have suffered knee injury after knee injury. I couldn't imagine carrying heavy objects, running, doing yoga or any other strenuous exercise - without having knee pain afterwards. But my physical therapist here, Shaneen, has shown me that I can be physically stronger than I ever imagined. She is a little lady but tough as nails, in the best sense of the word. My multiple knee injuries have taken me to physical therapy offices around the city but this has by far been my favorite PT experience. I am the healthiest and strongest I've ever been and it is largely impart to this team's abilities and kindness and encouragements. It also helps that all the therapists and staff here are professional yet so fun to be around - I always look forward to my visits. I have had chronic pain in my lower back for a year. Tried a couple of different PT offices, their treatment helped but the pain was coming right back. At 42 I try to be active - I am a runner and play soccer twice a week - but since the pain started my active lifestyle was over. Finally I've ended up at Optimum and it was the best decision I made. It took some time but here I am pain free. I liked the office, friendly and helpful personnel and family atmosphere. I liked the way Francis approached to my treatment - starting with a comprehensive (for a change) and accurate diagnosis. Each session would end with stretching what, I believe, made whole lot of difference. In other PT offices they never offered stretching. Now I am back to running and playing soccers and the pain is not coming back. As I said - these guys are simply AMAZING!! Definitely recommend to everybody! read more

I have been in at least five places of physical theraphy in Brooklyn, and this is the best! Since my first appointment the therapist review my problem, measured my range of movement, gave me a very accurate diagnosis and sugested my treatment giving me a real expectation of the time that it would take to recover. In most of the places they dont measure the movements; they might use the electricity treatment, but they don't take the time to give a good massage to the affected area because they are rushing the people. In Optimum Physical Therapy, not only had I the electricity treatment, but also ultra sound and the best masage ever. The therapists really care about my recovery. They take the time to do a real good job. Moreover, they are focus in solving problens. During my second appointment I had an issue with my insurance and Tonny, who is the manager, solved it in five minutes, and printed an explanation of what was going in case that I had a problem again. I loved it! After about six monts of vissiting many places I was loosing my hope to dance and exercice again. But, I am experiencing a real healing here. To me this is the best place for physical therapy in New York. All the staff is professional, respectful and over all very kind. I am so thankful with them. I recomend this place 100%. read more

My shoulder is not only better it's much better than I could have hoped. Not only are they wonderfully skilled therapists both are funny and engaging. I had to run a marathon in a few months and had a lot of problems during training. I pulled my hamstring and had some issues with my knees during running but I couldn't compromise on my training. Tony and Susanna really helped me with the recovery process. He also recommended Kinesio taping for my knees for added support and structure. This drastically reduced the pain when running. I started here for a minor but long-term painful arm & shoulder issue that hindered my workouts and hadn't been cured by my regular doctor, an acupuncturist, and several qualified personal trainers, yet after a few sessions with Dr. Tony I feel 100% better - he's also incredibly personable & we laugh a lot. And everybody in the office is cool; the front desk staff and PT aides, Judy & Tina, were quick to help me get an appointment my first time and discuss insurance with me, I NEVER wait for my appointment since they're always on time, and they are super friendly every time I see them. Amazing rehab! When I started rehab here I was having a lot of pain and walking was very difficult after an ankle fracture. My muscles, ligaments and tendons were also torn leaving my leg tight and painful! My finger was also fractured and the pain and tightness was Unbearable! Francis works on me 3-4 times a week putting all his strength into getting me moving again and I can't believe how much stronger I am finally becoming. The ONLY PTs I would go to. I've been a patient on and off since 2015. The office staff is professional and very friendly. O.H.P.T. has been recognized and received many awards from many organizations. But the most important element is they have included manual PT in ALL my programs as I believe they do with every patient. It's not just electro stimulation and/or ultra sound therapy. I have had Frances most of the time. He listens well to a patients symptoms and issues and designed the right program for me on multiple occasions. He has addressed my shoulder and more recent lower back L4, L5, S1/sciatica issues. I had issues walking a few feet with tremendous right leg pain. He is magical and I have been very pleased with the progress I'm making. My range of motion is actually better than it's ever been and I'm 55! Although, some of the massaging, stretching and exercises could be tough at times, I leave relaxed and feeling loose with NO MORE PAIN! INCREDIBLE physical therapy! I have suffered from long-standing neck, shoulder, and hip injuries, and have been to many PT places throughout the city. However, I have never experienced the level of exceptional care, expertise, and improvement that I've had at Optimum Health PT. I am actually pain free and back to the things that I love (sports, dancing, general running around!). As a bonus, the place is really nice, and there is just a very positive energy there.
