They charge people in the middle of the month, so that they are certain they get paid. That seems unscrupulous. He inquiry why after 16 years I finally decided to leave? wish I could give no stars. I don't know where to start. this is the worsted company I have ever encountered. I have cable phone and internet. basically c cable. pay $180 a month . service constantly go out and in. out and in. sometimes minutes sometimes hours. neighbors all have same problem. called service if course try to speak to someone from probably India eventually get service date and time. they threaten to charge you $$$ if you are not home. service person comes. checks all equipment and no problem inside. states problem outside and entire neighborhood. well nothing ever done even though he said problem outside in entire neighborhood. after many many calls to another country 2 weeks going by and service continues in and out all day everyday. a service appointment is set up for today. confirming service appointment 3 times when they called day before, this AM a man ( from personal phone) calls and wants to cancel service call , when India calls, because he claims they are working on lines now and if I don't cancel it they will stop working . India did call( barley able to understand her ) she ask me if I want to cancel service appointment, I tried to explain that Paul service man told me to cancel it because they are working on lines now. well after I hung up with out sourced person, Paul the service man calls me up angry because I didn't cancel the call and that if I didn't cancel it, they were gonna stop working on the lines. I explained that I told them what he said that I needed to cancel it because that to be canceled because they were working on it. after I hung up with Paul Optimum outsourced person calls and said that I wanted to cancel the I explained again that I was told by man to cancel it that they were working on it. It was a half an hour later after the call our service is out again for 10 to 12 minutes. I had somebody drive down the road to all the homes that are having problems and there's nobody working any place. this has been going on for over a month now and it's ridiculous because they are the only cable company in the area. My advice to anyone who needs find another source I don't care satellite or what I've had Dish and I've had DIRECTV and other places I lived I've never had problems. This is unacceptable and Optimum should be ashamed of themselves first taking money from people, especially citizens and not providing . One of my neighbors here works from with the Internet constantly being been a problem. Also, we have a neighbors child that is college lines on course and in the middle of online test the Internet goes out. This is unacceptable and this day and time to have this kind of service I advise anybody who's looking for service in this area. Find another way. Optimum service is terrible and sloppy. I would suggest using any alternative if you have the choice. After waiting a week to get my service restored, optimum reconnected service and left behind a mess. To make matters worse, they claim that cleaning up the wires isn't their job. Edit: optimum commented on this post but has yet to address the issue. They are more worried about bad publicity than they are about bad product or service. I was lied to to get me to sign up for wireless service. I canceled my service with T-Mobile and spent days without a working phone. I was told my service would be included while I was traveling and later found out this was a lie. The reason I signed up was a lie. Then I was convinced to stay for the equivalent of 5 months of free service. But I still had to go to T-Mobile to get my wife's phone unlocked. While there, I was T-Mobile couldn't unlock it unless I reassigned her number to them so they could cancel it. So the other lie was that the switch would be seamless. The Optimum person I was on the phone with at the T-Mobile store told me all the benefits that were offered to me would be canceled if I moved her number back to T-Mobile even if it was so they could unlock the phone. At that point I moved back to T-Mobile, at least they never lied to me, and at least not several times. I still got billed from Optimum and I'm pissed. There should be repercussions for such a large company that lies to get business. I was lied to by nearly every service agent. No way to conduct business and fines should be paid for this kind of behavior. read more

These people hold you hostage if you want to rid a service. I had an issue today with my internet & TV. Internet download was 25.79 & upload of 17.5 Next my tv when turned on and went to YouTube then my screen starts to flash a screen that says Vado Fandango then switched back to the tv repeating flashing screen with the Vado flashing up. Then while on the phone the tv went to a Google screen wanting me to click on it. ( my opinion is I'm hacked) The technician wanted me to click on it. Told me I have to update it. This guy was just responding to whatever I mentioned without any diagnosis! I was told my processor was no good in my Sony!!!! By the way Everything is working ok now. Optimium has been take payments direct from my bank via auto pay and astonishingly have never emailed or posted an invoice into my online account. When I called to ask for my final invoice I was told by the overseas call center 'we are the finance department' and 'it is impossible to send you an invoice' 'there is nobody to speak to'. I'm not sure what is going on with Optimum cable service channel 9 & 11 service. I am noticing for certain elderly customers that have basic cable service for NY Channels 2, 4 , 5 ,7 , 9, 11 &13 there is an issue with channel 9 & 11 every morning now for some reason at night its ok before they go to bed. This used to happen sporadically but now its everyday. Its for channels the FTC specifies are supposed to be free but are not Optimum charges for providing them unscrambled as they are scrambling all the channels that are supposed to be free in the NY area. read more

Called Optimum to tell them I needed a new cable box as my cable box was not turning on. I had rebooted it several times and it still was not responding to the remote (yes I changed the batteries) nor to my manually pressing the power button. The red light would blink but not turn on. I spent twenty minutes trying to communicate with their automated system - it kept telling me to turn the to channel 99. I was losing it - yelling at the automated system that I could not turn to channel 99 because I could not turn the cable box on! I finally got a live person who - after trying several things at her end - told me I needed a new cable box! Next time I will just bring the box to the store and ask for a replacement. read more

I've had no issue with service nor do I have any customer service complaints. They always help me and speak to me with respect whether over the phone or in the walk in office. Only rated four stars because the cable was very pricey but I've kept their internet solely because I rarely have an outage or issue and when I had ONE issue, I wasn't even aware of it and the gentleman called to say he had time to stop by to fix it, he noticed a signal issue. Rant alert(you have to find humor in the obsurd): so I got to the bottom of Optimum and this is their logic. Tell me if you understand this. In May I reduced my Optimum to just internet to save from 130 (for phone, cable and internet)a month to 83 a month in charges(internet only). Optimum told me this amount was good for a year. so June rolls around, pay my bill of 83 and inform them I was going to be unemployed and had applied to a federal program to keep internet in the home...fine and dandy...Wednesday I get a bill for 292...now mind you my bill is due on the 15th of the month and I paid June so all I owed them as of Wednesday was 83 for July...so figured they were adding August but still 166 vs 292 could not figure what such a difference was...so called them... they said the 83 was only a promotion and that since I was unemployed they reinstated my phone and cable because I might need that being unemployed ( totally logical right? not!)...yeah so raise my bill up to 126.75 because I am unemployed. Told them still waiting to get paid from unemployment and still don't have a date...so they said if I could commit to paying within 5 days to direct pay them then they could reconnect me and set up a payment plan for 6 months to pay every month for the 292 I owed them and give them dates to pay each month direct payment. Ok so when I told them I don't have a date for when unemployment is paying nor do I know how much... they were like that's ok... just commit to either the 5 day or 6 month plan today. I can't make this s@#$ up and have the text messages to prove it btw. So anywho, I asked if they could go back to the 83 a month they told me that that was another department and I would have to pay the balance in full to be able to make changes/reductions in my account. At the very least they needed 156 today( I believe this number was pulled out of a hat at random because none of my numbers remotely add up to this)...now I know I am not smoking crack...but honestly think Optimum is.... This company is a joke. Had an appointment for installation. Waited 3 hours - no show. This while i was in the middle of moving from one to another. Technician called in early afternoon to see if he could come earlier than the scheduled time of between 5-8PM. I explained that i was closing on a home and could be there between 4:30 -5:00. He told me to call him when i was on my way. I did only to find that his voicemail was full. So I texted him. No text back, no call back and no show for the appointment. Now Optimum tells me that i need to wait 4 days and take time off from work to get a new appointment. When i asked to speak to a supervisor they would not let me. Local office is supposed to be open today. Went there to find them closed. Worst customer service experience of my life!!!!!!!! No surprise that most ratings are terrible. This review is specifically for the Cablevision customer service office in Wappingers Falls, and not Cablevision in general. Had that been the case this review would be 1 star. I'm not fond of Cablevision, the company, particularly their rates. Though I must acknowledge from feedback of friends and relatives there's actually worse out there. For a cable customer service office, what I look for is friendly, knowledgeable people, and efficiency. I found those here. True, they have to be spokespeople for their employer, but for things like cable box replacements, resolving billing problems, etc., the people who work here are fine, and much more pleasant than the folks with whom you actually have to chat on the phone. I would suggest to Cablevision that they add the hours of their service sites on both the invoices they mail, and their official website, neither of which contain it. I had to do a couple of additional, creative Google searches to find their actual hours. read more

I called 3 different times(within 30 minutes) to get a quote of a new service triple play. I received three completely different quotes for the same service. I was given 3 completely different download and upload speeds, I was told by one salesperson I could get a speed and told by two other salespeople I could not get that. Optimum raised their rates in middle of pandemic (not a socially responsible corporation) when unemployment reached unprecedented levels. I then switched to Verizon and returned all Optimum equipment in person on the 5th day of their billing cycle. They continued to bill me for the entire month which included 26 days for which they DID NOT provide any service. Calls to their customer service were useless as they either did not return calls or were unable to provide any answers to questions! They sent bill to collections in about a month and then to Credit Bureau listing their outstanding Bill which dropped my excellent credit score by about 90 points from over 800. On local neighborhood app, Optimum has very large amount of complaints and horrendous experience with their customer service. It's BUYER BEWARE with this shady practices company!! read more

Phew! I'm moving and I finally don't have to pay these crooks anymore. 4+ years of renting locked into a wifi plan I never wanted any part of. They take advantage of middle class and lower class people by sealing renters into agreements with landlords. They have consistently raised my rate on wifi every year for the past 3 years with no explanation. Their service is spotty at best and they make no effort of improvement. I have asked for answers to rate changes and service disruptions and been told I'd receive a callback, and never did. After 16 years as a customer, I closed my account today. Each year when the "no contract" contract runs out and the new prices come into effect, I can convince the customer service rep to give me a good deal. I only buy Internet service, no phone or TV. This time I was told I would have to pay $65 per month, and this is for Opt 25, My down/upload speed is 28.25/5.24 on my new laptop. It's slower on my old desktop. Then I get a letter stating the monthly cost is $60. My new bill was the usual $55, which includes a new $5 equipment charge. I was told I should be glad I'm not paying $75. For Opt 25! I switched to Verizon. Now they want to make the deal. When I balked at this late offer, they became rude. Then I get a call from sales: $40 and Opt 200. Too late I said. I returned the equipment today to a mausoleum. No thank-yous ever for my 16 years of patronage. No lines in the store, either. Optimum only cares about netting new customers. Once they got you, they squeeze every penny out of you. If you manage to escape the tank, they entice you to return with a few tasty treats. So I'm swimming out to sea. Verizon is my new pond. May not be better, but I now realize, I cannot rely on any ISP, and the oceans are being ruled by fewer and fewer of them. I will look for alternatives. Update: Verizon installed. Demonstrating the difference in service and the scam Optimum was perpetrating on me, my new download speed is 101.62 and upload is 121.60. Compare that with what I was receiving above. I all of a sudden stop receiving bills by mail with out signing up for paperless billing. I use the bills as a reminder. I haven't received a bill in a few months then one day my internet just turns off understandable, I forgot to pay the bill. I paid it and got turned back on. I few weeks later the same thing happen and now I'm getting charge $109. For a month of internet because of late fees when I never asked for paperless billing in the 1st place. On top of that don't try to call customer service. They have no idea what the word customer service means. read more

ATROCIOUS. I have had Optimum for less than 4 months. Every single month I have had an Internet or Cable issue where it has just gone out on me and takes days to come back up. The customer service at Optimum is BY FAR THE WORST customer service I have ever received anywhere in my entire existence. I have spent more time arguing with them over THEIR MISTAKES than I have using the service itself. They make you hold for hours. They will show up at your house for "tech visits" hours outside of what they tell you. Then guess what... YOU GET CHARGED. In addition to all of this, I signed an initial contract with them and they still charge me a different more expensive price every month. They are liars and thieves. They do not give you money back. They do not fix their issues. And they charge you for their mistakes and pretend they can't do anything about it. Last night I lost the TV video HDMI feed from my cable box. After checking all connections and cables, I noticed that if I wiggled the HDMI cable at the cable box connection, I would get a quick TV picture. But I couldn't keep it on permanently. Luckily, I had a 2nd box in another room and when I swapped it, the other box worked fine. I called support to get a replacement and was told that I could: a. purchase a protection plan so there would be no charge for a tech to come to the house with a replacement; b. have a tech come to the house with a replacement and there would be an $80 charge; c. have the new box mailed to me (how do I return the old one?); OR d. go to the local Cablevision store (40 miles away!) and swap the box for a new one. So I will go to the store myself - crummy choice.... My complaint is that I already pay a monthly fee for the cable box and since it broke, they should deliver and install a replacement for no charge. If they weren't such a monopoly and had some competition in our area, I bet they would change their tune... A very dissatisfied customer.... read more

Before Cablevision became an Altice company, things were frustrating, but much better. First I noted their telephone service assistance that was available 24/7 stopped. I do quite a bit of computer work overnight and when the internet craps out overnight, now you can't speak to a live person for assistance. You must use their online support or call back between 8a & 8p. Well hello, if my internet is down how am I supposed to use the online forum? No, I do not have good cell service at my residence, so that's not an option for using their web troubleshooting portal... For several months I've watched my bill increase, service decrease and more and more surcharges get added. I know the surcharges are someone else's doing, but as the end user, we are where they're getting piled on. My family had enough and I called to cancel our service. The woman on the phone repeatedly kept wheeling and dealing knocking $3 off here and there... waiving this and that... I had to tell her, I'm not interested in any of your promotional stuff that will expire and jack my bill back up to the then current rate at a later time. In the end, She told me that the upgraded 400 mbps internet I wanted by itself was only $4 less per month than the 400 mbps + Telephone + Basic Cable TV service. $99 vs $103. Come to find out that was not completely accurate as it was only a promotional deal. I will say the staff in the Wappingers office was phenomenal. They were very understanding, polite, and willing to explain things in easy to understand terms minus the fast talking like the phone rep. I asked servers times, exactly what will my bill be, and got the same answer each time. One thing I will say, the rep in the office did tell me the 400 mbps internet speed isn't available in my neighborhood. Now I had an 18 minute conversation with the phone rep who signed me up for the 400 mbps internet, told me to go to the local sales office and return my cable boxes and modem and to pick up a new modem for the 400 mbps service. Not once did she mention that service level isn't available in my neighborhood. Unbelievable!!! It was obvious the phone rep was going to say anything to get me to agree to stay, whereas the service location rep was honest, polite, understanding and sorry to lose my service. Judging by all the other people there doing the same thing I was, at the same time, she should look for a job with a better company that deserves her professionalism and level of expert service. Also, I was told there should be technical support available during the overnight hours, but it is outsourced to the Dominican Republic. So, we're paying top dollar for meh service and outsourced technical support? Not me! I'd like to speak to someone right here in the good old US of A!!! To say I'm disappointed with Altice is an understatement. I've spoken to several of their technicians in the field over the past few months and the ones I've spoken to aren't very happy with the company either.
