We ordered a cake for my daughter's graduation, and asked for it to be Mint Green. We received a blue cake. Tiffany Blue...exactly like the one in the display I might add. Another customer looked at it this morning and agreed, the thing was blue. Greg, however was undaunted and managed to argue with my wife about the color of the cake. There was no attempt at apology, simply a statement to the effect of "well you can leave the cake here and leave." She said she'd complain, and he did not seem to care. In the meantime, the cake does not match our decorations, my daughter won't be happy and my wife is as upset as she would have been if our wedding cake was wrong. What was once a great place, a leading provider for awesome cakes is now a place we will never visit again. Thank you Greg! You turned away a 10 year customer, and her mother. The cake is pretty, don't get me wrong. It's just the wrong color. The manager's ambivalence towards his customers is the real reason I am giving a 1 star review. Opulent Cakes did such a wonderful job with my sister's wedding cake! We went in rather late to pick a cake, and Donna, the lady who runs the place was just amazing. As first time wedding planners we didn't know much about wedding cakes, and Donna walked us through all the options and was extremely helpful in choosing and creating the design for the cake. She gave us a taste of six different types of cakes and we finally ended up mixing and matching and choosing Orange and Raspberry with chocolate cake rather than the white chocolate that we had tasted. The final product was amazing! It looked beautiful and remained moist and delicious. The icing wasn't over-bearing and just the right amount of sweet. The only drawback was that the regular chocolate tasted a bit stronger than the white chocolate, thus negating the raspberry and orange taste - something I feel we should have been warned about. Other than that my experience was absolutely amazing and I would definitely recommend Opulent Cakes to anyone, especially if you go for one of her more regular cakes! read more

I have to say if I could give this place negative stars I would. Be very afraid of the fact that she is located in an industrial garage. Tells you all you need to know about how well her business is doing. I asked for a simple white sheet cake for 100 people with an artist theme and received a three layer monstrosity with an actual paint brush taped to a stick in the top. It was smeared all over with crazy colors. Makes no sense. She had a wedding the same day and I am wondering if something happened to my cake and she substituted with this load of dung. Our Rehearsal Dinner cake, decorated in a western theme that was a work of art-- was amazing. Before getting into the cake itself the design and execution of several different layers-- bandana print, cow skin and roping-- was gorgeous. It brought ohhs and ahhs before a single cut was made. I picked Opulent Cakes to make my Wedding Cake because I loved the cakes they showed on their website, and the cakes they had on display in the bakery!! Not to mention the cake flavors were delicious! However, I was somewhat disappointed with the customer service I received at the bakery during my appointment!! The cake guy made me feel like an idiot because I didn't bring my own sketch of what I wanted my cake to look like!! How was I supposed to know? I'd never picked out a Wedding Cake before!! I felt like the cake guy had poor selling skills and poor social skills!! All that aside, my cake was delivered but never decorated to the specifications from our appointment!! Went to a shower this past weekend and the cake was ordered from here... OMG!!! It was so moist, soo soooo moist. It tasted great! The cake did not taste like it came from a box like so many cakes that you get these days. the cake is lite and just perfectly tasty. Now I only had the vanilla with the white filling so I can't say how the other flavors add up, but what I had was good. Definitely thinking of using them for future events. I went by Opulent Cakes one day while I was looking for cakes for my wedding, went in and the older woman in there was very rude, cold and just plane unfriendly! She asked had we booked our wedding venue and we said not yet, but will probably be the piazza. She said well come back when you book your location and than we can help you! Very disappointed with my daughter's wedding cakes. The flavors and texture were nothing like we tasted during our tasting meeting. Donna never followed-up with her promise of showing us how the cake was going to look like, even though we sent detailed photos many times. She was supposed to imitate some of the details in my daughter's wedding dress--did not happen. The wedding cake details did not look like nothing similar to my daughter's dress. The details in the cake were minimal and looked like an amateur in training did it for class or a child. We could never have a meeting/conversation before the wedding because Donna closed the business for three weeks before the wedding. Very stressful. When the catering staff were about to cut it, the top of the cake tumbled. In the photos, we can see the layers of the cake were not even. The strawberries in the groom's cake were sliding down and looked like a chocolate mess--my neighbor could have done a better cake. No communication, no follow-up and not professional. We ordered my son's wedding cake and groom's cake and were pleased during the cake tasting and consultation. However, we were very disappointed in the actual cakes themselves. The flavors were not anything like the consultation. The groom's cake was suppose to be amaretto flavored and was supposed to have a sword made of styrofoam through the cake which was made into a shield. The sword turned out to be just fondant cut out and laid underneath the cake and the colors were all wrong. The wedding cake was suppose to have a layer of orange flavored cake and a layer of chocolate peanut butter. Again, the orange was like eating a plain white cake and the chocolate peanut butter was way too overwhelming. The colors again were off. I would not waste my money here. Went home with the cake had the party, brought the cake out and every one was waiting for their piece to be cut. I used to order my cakes from them since it was a taste of Europe and continued after, but despite the fact I was a repeat customer they kept on messing up on my cake designs and I would let them know and hope for the best the next time because I liked the way their cakes tasted. The owner is just awful and I am certainly not coming back after being a customer for 8 years. My husband called on a Friday to order a super hero cake for a birthday party on the next Saturday - one week in advance. He was told that they cannot make anything than a plain cake. Due to family issues (illness) we had to postpone the party so I called the day after asking to cancel the order. I followed up with two more calls with no answer or return call. Assumed my order was canceled - until I saw a debit on my bank account from Opulent Cakes. Finally talked to the owner today that said he charged because he has a no cancelation policy. I explained to him I called within less than 24 hrs since my husband ordered - and for the record he was not informed of a no cancel policy in the phone. He insisted this is in the website - what is not - and continued to be extremely rude to me. Someone wrote on another review that she doesn't understand why there are bad reviews for this bakery...that some people are never pleased. That does not describe me. I'm a supporter of local businesses and try to patronize them. I'm also enjoy cakes and will pay the price if they are good, but my last two experiences with this bakery were horrible and I make every effort to discourage people from using her. I ordered a baby shower cake and dropped by a week before the shower to ensure that there would be no discrepancies, etc. Donna was in the back area with one of her employees who was on the phone and I was standing waiting for 5 minutes before being acknowledged. That acknowledgement was by Donna, who some people think is so fabulous, who just waved me away like I was a gnat! She never came up front. The employee finally came up and said everything was ok and the details were confirmed. When I picked it up, the young girl said they didn't have boxes to fit the cake and I would have to take it out exposed. In addition to that, the cake wasn't even trimmed around the base and the baby shoes on top looked like blobs of white balls that didn't resemble baby shoes. I made her put the trim on it before taking it out. When I did take it out my hands were full and when I was going to open the door with my foot, one of the other employees (an older woman who just finished a wedding consultation) was coming in and didn't offer to help open the door or even help me put it in the car which was parked in front of the bakery. Unbelievable. I guess if you don't pay $2,000 for a cake then they snub their nose at you. But it doesn't stop there. My daughter is the maid of honor for her friend's wedding. They went to Opulent Cakes with the bride-to-be's mother and were treated so badly and the mother and bride were upset. My daughter called me on the spot and I told her to go to another bakery in the area. They called the bakery and went over for a tasting and were treated like royalty. Thank goodness they decided to do business with a professional bakery rather than this one. SOrry folks who love this place, I don't agree and will NEVER do business with her again I don't like the word "Never" but it is so appropriate in this case. Donna did a great job helping me design my mother's 50th birthday cake, customizing it to the theme and color of the party. I tasted the raspberry white chocolate cake and have to say it is simply amazing. We went with strawberry instead of raspberry upon my father's request and it was also very, very good. Everyone at the party raved about how pretty the cake looked and how impressively tasty it was. I found the pricing was very reasonable as well. I ordered a two tier cake for my daugther's birthday. I went to pick the cake up two hours before her party. The bakery lost my order, even though I had paid a 50% down payment FOUR WEEKS before the party. I was given the deposit back and was told I would receive a voucher for a $150 credit to the store. I never received the voucher. My other daughter is getting married soon. I don't know what I would have done if this was her wedding cake. Luckily, I ran across the street to Market Street. I can not even begin to tell you all the wonderful things I know about Donna and her shop Opulent Cakes! First off, let me say, I am a wedding vendor. I have an insiders view of what goes on in the wedding industry. And no, Donna did not ask or pay for me to write this review. She does not even know I am writing it. I am writing it because I wanted other brides out there to know what kind of a wonderful professional she is. Donna worked for another cake shop for years as a chief baker. She learned the recipes this cake shop used. As a matter of fact, this was no ordinary cake shop. This shop was owned by the niece of one of the most prominent pastry chefs in all of the world. The opportunity came for Donna to open her shop as the previous owners retired and took new ventures. I was happy to see Donna have the chance to realize her dream! I knew she would succeed because I had watched her field many a difficult situation with grace, finess, and tact. She has empathy, understanding, and and compassion, yet she is a businesswoman. Donna gets the job done with beauty & wonderful tasting cake! When it came time for our wedding, I was an oder bride, and I knew exactly who I wanted to make our cake for our wedding. I went straight to Donna. I did a taste test, not that I needed to, but more to jog my memory. She was patient with me, and gave me many tips, much like she did for the brides. She helped offer us some tips I had not even thought of, since I was more of on the bridal salon side of things that ended up saving us a good deal of money. She did a chocolate fountain for us that included different types of fruit which people loved. We also did our groom's cake with Donna, and of course our Bride's cake. They were scrumptious! We had the amaretto and buttercream bride's cake, and the chocolate groom's cake. Our family and friends from church loved it so much, that even years later, they still tell us that it was the most delicious cake they have ever eaten! People ask me where we got it and I am happy to tell them about Donna. I have used her cakes for a few dinner parties, and a Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter dinner or two. They make a great Bridal Shower cake and wonderful item if you can't think of what to bring to your new Mother-In-Law's House! If you are in charge of a Bridal Shower, this is definitely the place where you want to head, after as a Head Maid, you want to please your bride! :-) Every time we bring one of Donna's Opulent Cakes someplace, our friends squeal and say, "Oh, it's one of Donna's Opulent Cakes! I have ordered opulent cakes for the last four years for my daughters birthday. The first couple years, the cake was good and the design was nice. The past two years the service has declined. One year I gave them creative freedom to make a cake with a certain theme. I was not impressed. The cake was very boring looking and not creative. It wasn't as tasty either. This last year I tried them again and gave them a drawing and very specific instructions on what I wanted. I thought for sure they couldn't mess it up...but they did. It was also very sloppy. The fondant was hanging off and there were fingerprints all over it. I'm sure that my tiny 10 inch cake is not really important to them, since they do lavish wedding cakes, but it does reflect their service. Another thing...they are not very polite and they claim they don't freeze their cakes, but when I called to make changes to my 10 inch cake four days before it was to be ready, they claimed it was already made. hmm...not very fresh to me, it tasted just ok. read more

Ordered a $455.00, 16th birthday cake from this bakery. WORST fondant work I have ever seen! The fondant balls between the layers not consistent in size, some thad fingerprints, cracks etc, frankly they weren't even balls they were smashed ovals. The fondant swirls looked like they were cut with a hatchet! Everyone at the party continued to remark "where did you get that cake" and they did not mean it in a good way. We cut the cake and the taste was as bad as the fondant work. We ordered the chocolate with the Khalua filing. NO ONE finished their slice. This cake was horrible. The center tier was white cake. This was a tad tastier but seemed a bit undercooked. We threw the entire cake in the trash...the guest ended up eating the Blue Bell ice cream instead of cake. The prior reviewer was right...the cake taste is aweful...a Market Street cake would have been better. DO NOT order from this bakery and save your friends from making the same mistake. read more

Words cannot express how unhappy I was with this cake experience. I picked up the cake and YES I did look to make sure my nephew's name was spelled correctly and that they had the correct age; However, when I got to the party to we realized BIRTHDAY was misspelled. They had it spelled "BiRTDAY." When I called they asked me to send a picture (as if I would lie) and also to bring it back in. I was unable to bring the cake in because the party was already started. I did ask if they could come to me and was abruptly told NO. So we had a birthday celebration with NO cake pictures thanks to a misspelled cake. I did email the picture like they asked and had to contact them several times only to be told it was MY fault and that I should have checked it. I would be so embarrassed if my business did that and put a product out there like that. Long story short they credited NOTHING and I had to pay a $150 for a cake that was misspelled all to be told it was my fault. I don' t think i would be as upset if they were apologetic and took responsibility; However they never tried calling and I had to call over and over and could never even talk to a owner. This bakery did our wedding cake for our wedding on May 30, 2015. We have had so many guests call/email us asking where we got our cake because they absolutely loved both of them. People not only raved about the flavor but I heard multiple times "that cake melts in your mouth!" We ordered more than enough cake for all of ours guests and we ran completely out because people were going back for seconds and thirds. I highly recommend this bakery to anyone, especially brides! We initially paid in full at Romanos Bakery that ended up shutting down without notice or refunds 6 weeks before our wedding. Naturally we were panicked. A friend told me about Opulent cakes and we made an appointment right away and they were willing to help us for our wedding even with the short notice. They also made both of our cakes exactly how we wanted them, we had some interesting requests, and showed up early!! Only vendor I had show up early! However, at our initial consultation, we were told we could order a fresh anniversary cake on our first anniversary for $20. A week prior to our first anniversary on 5/16, I emailed Opulent cakes inquiring about ordering an anniversary cake. I basically wanted to know how far in advance did I need to place an order. Someone responded to my email advising me that my paperwork was noted that I needed to call in two weeks prior to our anniversary to order the cake and it would be a simple cake in the same flavor as my wedding cake. However, I did not see this noted on my paperwork. But because my anniversary was only a week away, they advised the earliest they could have a simple cake ready was Saturday 5/28 IF I called the bakery that same day to place the order. I didn't call two weeks in advance as I supposedly should have, so ok 5/28 was fine. So I called the bakery shortly thereafter only to reach the voicemail. I left a message and asked for a return call and briefly noted who I was. I then sent an email back advising that I had just attempted to call and left a voicemail. I waited a little while and attempted to call again only to reach voicemail again and leave a message. Still no call back. Eventually time passed with no call back or email and the shop closing for the day. Needless to say, I didn't get a fresh anniversary cake. And even though we carefully wrapped and stored away our top wedding tier, when we pulled out our cake yesterday, it was a combination of hard, soft and mushy with extremely sweet icing much sweeter than it was the day of the wedding. While our wedding cake was wonderful, customer service is everything to me. And frankly, this company did not seem too interested in pleasing their customer and trying to make them a repeat customer in the future.
