Even though Oracle is literally 1/2 min from My parents home, I have never stopped to walk the grounds or taken a closer look at the Team USA America's Cup championship yacht. So on a quiet Sunday afternoon, we stopped and walked the grounds and got to the the yacht up close. It's amazing how large the yacht is when you are standing right next to it. Very impressive. Be forewarned thought, the walkways are literally lined with duck S$&t . It's super hard to walk without almost stepping in it. They must have a cleaning crew work this area regularly as it is a big problem.

Drove by Oracle and saw this!!!

Their surfskis are super nice. They have V5, V8s, V10s. You can start all the way from beginner and make your way to the olympics on V10s. The boats are in brand new condition. The paddles are grat. The club also has two functional outriggers but no paddles. But at least they let you paddle them, unlike all the annoying outrigger Hawaiian clubs who won't let you touch their single Outriggers for fear you might break something. I was mainly an outrigger guy, so I loved this place. The people in the club were great. Mainly Chris Flynn, Operations Director. He let me fix the outriggers and paddle them. When there was an issue with a former club taking away my paddle he made them give it back. Anything you ask and he is happy to give it a try, you need parts, classes. So, if you have some spare change and want to go paddle BIAC is the place. You can paddle backwards You can surfski for exercise when the wind picks up if you are bored, you can even outrigger and pretend you are Kamaaina."Local", want some community join the E-Rows and have a blast or just roll in and do your thing on your time, no one is judging. After leaving our boat untouched for six months, I ran into battery issues the day we needed it for a gathering with friends. I hit a wall troubleshooting online and took a chance calling Michael on a Sunday. Not only did he invite me to come by, but he already had the cables I needed waiting when I arrived. Rather than simply ringing up the sale, he walked me through the fix, explained the risks, and made sure I knew what to watch out for. When I discovered the damage was worse than expected -- acid corrosion on additional cables -- Michael had already left for the day, but still called into the shop so his colleagues could get me what I needed. He also answered my text messages asking him more questions. Thanks to him, we had a wonderful cruise with our friends that afternoon. It's genuinely reassuring to know that a knowledgeable, generous Duffy dealer is nearby -- not just when you're buying, but whenever you need real help.

We were a group of 10 and the largest duffy boat available was more than enough more to move around the boat and still be comfortable. Nice views, while peaceful and relaxing to either walk a couple of laps or just sit and enjoy watching the airplanes taking off / landing and ducks / water (not the most ducks here anymore, at least during our visit). Even on a sunny day, it is a bit windy here, so remember to bring a jacket / sweater. Watch where you step though, as some paths are not even and there are some poop and other trash scattered around in some areas. Overall, nice little hidden gem.

Even though there are no ducks, there are several other birds that can be found, not only waterbirds (see my pics). The best thing I saw was a family of geese hidden in the grass as I was running along the dirt/rock pathway around the pond. Two adult and two baby geese, chomping on grass, and making their way to the trail toward the pond. I took photos of them as they waddled away, it was soo cute and made my day :D The entire setting is just beautiful and peaceful, even with the planes flying in and out of the Palo Alto Airport adjacent to the duck pond (the busiest single runway airport in CA). They're actually pretty quiet, and such small cute planes. So it adds to the charm of this place. I found plenty of benches bordering the pond and along the trails, as well as picnic tables hidden behind the trees surrounding the pond, and a cute little picnic area next to the Baylands Ranger Station, too. I didn't see a public restroom, but I did see one single porta potty next to the pond, so plan accordingly. There are several small parking lots, so if one is full, keep driving and you'll easily find another, you can't miss it. But this place is pretty isolated, and it doesn't seem to get super crowded.. I can't imagine parking being a problem. Great place to be surrounded by nature, but still so simple, not too much to take in, and easy to get to, right off the 101 freeway (though you'll feel like you're far away from civilization).

Which makes sense when you're in a concrete urban jungle day in and day out - we just weren't meant to live this way. I literally searched Yelp for a park in the area on my way home, and Lakeshore came up. Tucked away in a residential area, Lakeshore is a small-ish, serene, well-kept park with, as the name implies, a lake being the central point. I strolled on the path for a bit. I'm not sure how long the path is, but it seems like a good spot to get a decent walk in, and there were a few walkers and joggers. After stretching my legs for a bit, I grabbed some bench and watched the birds - geese (these guys are huge!), seagulls, ducks, and crows - hanging out and eyeballing me to determine if I had food. They were so cute. There is nothing that gets me feeling better fast than being around animals. The human animals that passed by were nice as well, with smiles and hellos, how refreshing. I spent some time just sitting and resetting. It was good. I need to do this more. Nice park, enjoyed a much-needed reprieve here, and would return.
