Rough day for brunch. Arrived 11:20am and cook&bartender let us know they were cleaning up from the busy night before. Our table of 4 were the only patrons. We ordered by 11:30am. 35-40 min and no visits by staff later (mind you we were patient and not starving so not a big deal...yet 12:10pm wife got her food, breakfast bruschetta which she enjoyed. SIL got her eggs and ice cold hash browns they forgot to heat up. Toast arrived 5+ min later. As did my sons B*wiched - which one would think was a sandwich by the name and that it came with onion jam and mayo but no just glooped on the eggs. (He did not enjoy) We asked for hash browns to be heated and for my son's missing hash brown. 10 min later SIL hash browns arrived. Hot. Dry. 5 min later my sons arrived. Hot. Dry. And an apology my breakfast would be a few more minutes as they'd tripped the breaker a whatever was cooking on. But wait. My meal - cold yogurt, spinach salad, poached eggs, toast and bacon. One hour and 10 minutes later my meal arrived. For cold toast. Ice cold bacon. Salad and yogurt. Luke warm poached eggs. 1H10M for poached eggs. With no other guests (2 dudes came in the last bit). Chef apologized a bit. No one checked in between. Family was done eating for 15+ min before mine arrived. But hey, 3 bites in the waitress came over asking us to pay. Dude. As polite as I could I said, I'm paying - please come back when I'm done eating. Note, when tea was dropped off early on, she couldn't hold everything so put the empty tea cup against her blouse. The part people drink from. Mmmm sanitary. We paid. I tipped well. They were either hung over or not interested in being there. But we won't be back. Cool vibe. Neat spot. Bet evening got drinks is fine. Skip brunch. read more

Amazing mead, delicious food, a cozy atmosphere and kind and thoughtful staff? Yes, please! I've been meaning to come here forever, and am now annoyed I've not been in sooner. everything here was sooo good. my friend and i kept saying "oh i really liked this one" with every sample we had. we both got a flight which is $14 for 5 samples. we were able to try the entire menu by sharing each sample (as recommended by the bartender). i also got the chicken sandwich which was sooo good and the salad on the side was a nice touch. the space is beautifully decorated and they even have card games and board games. i didn't enjoy my experience as much as i wanted to because the bartender was pretty distracted. we stood by the doorway looking at the menu despite there being plenty of seating because we weren't told to seat ourselves. the tasting menu was not explained to us very well so we were pretty confused. we also had to wait pretty long between pours because the bartender was not paying attention to us. i think they would be better off with 2 bartenders, since the option of a tasting menu makes it so they have to walk back and forth and keep track of who drank what. everything here was delicious but the service was not what i was hoping for. i hope they can improve the experience. read more

We have passed by this spot a few times and have always been curious to check it out. Location is cool, down an alleyway into a small bar. The outdoor patio was pleasant and had a cool mural on the wall. When we arrived we got the full spiel of Oran Mor Artisan Mead from the bartender who was focused down and writing on/decorating a menu board. They told us that they had live music that day and there was a suggested tip of $5-$10 if we so feel inclined. That raised some red flags but I'm an artist soul myself and I can appreciate the hustle. We nodded and took our drinks outside. Live music were 2 guys and they were okay. I went to the bar to order food and asked for a large pasta to be made vegan (as stated possible on the menu). While we waited for our food, the band personally called us out and thanked us for being there. While that sounds nice in theory, things were starting to feel a little off and forced. When our food arrived we got the smallest bowl of corkscrew pasta I've ever seen. I stopped the server and asked if that was the large portion of pasta and got a weird response about how he used the large portion in the smaller sized bowl, or something, and that he would bring more pasta over. I wish I had taken a picture as proof but honestly I was too hungry to do much else than eat. We commented that the pasta looked like it came from a Whole Foods buffet bar. We also got the Mezze plate (served with flattened toast and hummus, piping hot Kalamatas, hot dates). We also got some cheesy potatoes which tasted like a combination of cooked potatoes with instant mash. When the band finished up they were loudly discussing business and how much money they made. Then they made a point to come over to our table and connect with us directly. We went to the bar to settle up and the bartender asked if we wanted to leave a $15 tip for the band. Being too polite to say anything, we accepted. For some reason they charged and gave us a bottle of mead. The bill ended up being over $100 for honestly one of the weirdest and most uncomfortable dining experiences in Portland. The mead was probably the best part but I would not go, stay, or recommend that you visit this place. read more

Cute little shop tucked away in Sellwood. Easy to miss if you're not looking for it the place is hidden down her back hallway and has plenty of outdoor covered seating and really tasty drinks. We stopped in on a Saturday afternoon after seeing a sign on the sidewalk about Mead Mosas, which I had never seen before. The drinks were light and not too sweet and the fruit juice tasted fresh. We visited and tried a sampling of several meads and Wow! Everything here is amazing - not overly sweet and syrupy like most of us know as mead - but rather refined, nuanced, and worthy of enjoying. I honestly did not care for mead until we visited this hidden gem in Sellwood today. Now, I am a huge fan. The owner was so friendly and helpful in guiding our tasting and generously gave us the most amazing tour and shared her stories of how she and her partner got started with Mead making. I can't wait to return and try the menu and enjoy Oran Mor with friends!! The location is tucked back behind some storefronts with the most magical alleyway that leads to the back. It reminds me of the hidden treasures of Chinatown in San Francisco found down similar alleyways. Do yourself a favor and check it out. You won't be disappointed! read more

What an incredible experience! I had never had mead before and the tasting by Erik was fantastic. The paninis were absolutely delicious and affordable. Stew the chef apparently made the jam and chimichurri from scratch?? So good. On top of it all, the service was warm, attentive, and welcoming. This open mic is an entertaining, friendly, and total winner. Held the first Thursday of each month in a comfortable fire pit warmed room, this open mic is a delight. Too bad it's only once a month. I hope they do more. My only criticism is I wish the people in the back of the room would listen to the performers. The space is small, so it's quite disturbing to play music while people who are fifteen feet away are laughing and talking. Beyond that, it's a good open mic. read more
