    Wine in the garden

If you're in Mount Hood area on a beautiful sunny day, then the Gorge White House is a great option to hangout in the lovely garden. They have a small parking lot in front, so I can see how it could be a crowded mess on the weekends. Luckily I went on a weekday so it wasn't an issue. You order wine or cider or beer inside and then enjoy the garden. The garden is also dog friendly so you'll see a few pups out there. There's a food truck that has burgers and flatbreads. It seemed to be really slow, so you should definitely not be hungry. I got the blueberry sausage flatbread, mostly out of curiosity. It was interesting with the sweet and salty flavoring having blueberries mixed with ground sausage and cheese, but not sure I was sold on it. Still, the rose I had in the sun made the whole experience enjoyable.

Views and overall vibe of this property is amazing. Lots of outdoor seating, epic views of Mt. Hood and Mt. Adams, fresh flowers and u-pick fruit. The cider taster was great; pours were good and it gave everyone in our party a chance to taste all the flavors. The cider and beer line moved quickly. The food truck put out some epic burgers and fries. Quality ingredients and preparation was perfect. Those crisp on the outside and tender on the inside steak fries with just a bit of salt...perfection. The only downfall is the wait on the food, right at two hours. We were given advance notice, but that's long enough to drive downtown and do some antique shopping then drive back up when the food it ready. Wish they had small pre-made plates or charcuterie in with the cider and beer so you at least have a snack while you wait. All in all, recommend.

My cousin and I came here five or six weeks ago to pick berries. Out of all the farms in the area where you could go to pick fruit, The White House has the most variety. It is one of the bigger and better known farms in the Fruit Loop. (For anyone who is unfamiliar, the Fruit Loop is a 35 mile scenic drive, featuring 28 farms along highways 35 and 281.) At the Gorge White House, depending on the time of year, you can pick cherries, blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, raspberries, peaches, apples, nectarines, pears, and flowers. Since we came in mid-July, we were able to pick cherries, blackberries, and blueberries. They had Rainier cherries as well as dark red cherries. The views from the farm are very pretty. Picking fruit in the orchard with the views of the vineyards and the mountains is very peaceful. Picking your own fruit only costs a fraction the cost of buying it at the store. I picked like a pound of cherries and berries for $5. Lots of people were here for the wine and fresh food, which smelled DIVINE. But, it looked like fried chicken, which I can't eat, and my cousin didn't want to eat, so, we skipped it. They were also selling a very small selection of cider, frozen grapes, and fruit chips in the same building where we paid for our weighed fruit. But, as compared to the other farms, they weren't selling a lot of packaged goods. The girl who rang us up was friendly, and she also had some jokes. She was like, "Everyone comes here for the Rainier cherries, but I lowkey like the other ones better," and I actually agree with her. I had a great time, and promised myself I would come back several more times to pick fruit on a weekly basis. (So far, I've done that zero times.) Highly recommend checking this out.

The White House - you can sit on the porch but not go inside

A lovely fall stop! We closed out our day apple picking with a cider flight at The Gorge White House. Plenty of parking in a gravel lot. Real bathrooms plus temporary ones (slightly better than a portapotty). Unfortunately the actual house is not open to visit inside, but you can sit on the porch or front yard. There is a small building with a bar to order cider and indoor seating. Their ciders are great! Really lovely flavors, and perfect size samples in the flight. There is a food cart but they had an hour-plus wait (!) so we skipped it this time. Delicious smells coming from their food though. There is also U-pick available here. Throughout the year they have berries, cherries, pears, and apples. Since it was the end of the flower season, they offered free U-pick bouquets during my visit, which was lovely.

The Gorge White House was a great stop, I'm so glad we made the trip out. We got here right when it opened. A huge thank you to Liz for taking great care of us. We got the cider flight and it was awesome! These are some of the best ciders I have ever had! While we were tasting, we ran out to the food truck and placed a food order. Karl did a great job of cooking up our lunch. I got the White House burger. The beef was cooked beautifully, all the toppings were fresh, and the bun was nice and soft. The fries were a fantastic golden brown and had just the right amount of salt. They went perfect with the garlic aioli. The only downside of the visit was all the kids running around. I was optimistic when I saw the "No minors" signs, but it was like a daycare inside for a while. We got a couple of cider growlers to go, they will be just the thing for the family at the holiday get togethers! Great location, great service, great food!

This was an absolutely delightful experience! My partner and I made the drive out to Hood River from Portland with my mother, who was visiting from out of town. There was ample parking available (two lots and a third set of spaces in the grass by the entrance). Upon entering, the first thing you see are the massive fields of flowers. When we came in mid-October, everything was in bloom and absolutely stunning. If you desire, you can buy some fresh-cut flowers to take home with you. Bathrooms are abundant and clean. There are two options for tastings here-- wine and cider. We shared one of each between the three of us. They were out of a few of the wines (marked out in the photos attached), but they let us double up on the wines of our choice as a replacement. The woman pouring was very friendly. Tastings are $20/8 tastes, and the pours were very generous-- this is maybe the best deal I have seen in the Hood River/White Salmon area. The ciders were well made. My favorites were the lemon-pear and the apple, but each person in my party had a different ranking, which suggests there is something for everyone. The most interesting of the ciders was a lavender honey-- I absolutely hated this because I don't like lavender in my drinks, but my partner and mother loved it! The wine was good. It is not exceptional, but for the price point it is well worth it to try. I liked the Riesling best of the whites and the Cab Sauv best of the reds-- nice pepper finish. The Pinot Noir was a little light for my tastes but I think for a different pallet it could be a favorite. To round out our trip, we stopped by the fruit stand. There is an excellent variety of fresh fruit at good prices, and I was especially happy to find some Golden Delicious apples! These are almost impossible to get in stores now, so this was a treat.

When my friend told me this was one of the best burgers he had ever had I really thought he was bluffing until I tried this burger. Coming to Portland my friend and his girlfriend showed us around and The Gorge White House was one of the places they wanted to take us to. As we came here immediately were amazed with its scenery as it was very vibrant and nice. Ordering our burgers had me in disbelief when the workers told us it was gonna be about an 1hr+ wait and it had me wondering why it was that long for some burgers and fries. While we were waiting we explored the area/walked around and even got a couple of drinks and just enjoyed each others' company. After that 1hr+ wait we finally got a text message and I was very excited to try the burger and it did NOT disappoint. After I finished my meal I could see why my friend told me that this was one of the best burgers he had ever had. This place was definitely one of my highlights during my trip to Portland!

One of the prettiest places to stop for cider, u-pick fruit & flowers, and just hanging out, The Gorge White House is beautiful! The wait for food was over an hour long so we didn't stay for food but we did get ourselves some cider and a beer for my non-cider-loving friend. Such a gorgeous location! With tons of seating and a wide open feel to the place, it didn't seem crowded even though the parking was full to over-flowing. So relaxing just watching a grandma-type pick flowers for her family and sitting in the sun, sipping our ciders. If I had to pick a favorite among the six cider samples, I don't think I could do it. Perfect stop on the Hood River Fruit Loop!

Fun spot for cider and flower/berry picking with amazing views of Mt Hood and Adams. The food cart on site was super busy on a warm day. It was a 2 hr wait so we ordered right away. The cherry and bacon pizza, blueberry and goat cheese pizza, bacon and pear quesadilla, and burger. The blueberry pizza tasted like a breakfast sandwich! The burger and quesadilla was good. The bacon and cherry pizza was okay, not sure I'd order that again. Unfortunately, there wasn't much cherries or raspberries to pick. Plenty of blueberries though. Plenty of parking on a busy day!

We had a lovely afternoon at the Gorge White House. The cider flight was a highlight for sure! We also enjoyed a charcuterie board and some pie, there is one place on the property to get food, however, they told us if we ordered it would take over an hour for the food to be ready - so be prepared for that. You can also pick your own fruit which seemed to be a hit for the kiddos but we did not partake, just bought some fresh cherries to take with us.

Great spot for U-pick cherries and a fun outing for the whole family--including the dogs! If you'd rather not pick, they also have pre-picked cherries available for purchase.

I'm from California, so I'm still not fully used to the way food is served everywhere you go in Oregon. I was thinking, 'Espresso, ice cream, and antiques? That's different.' Is the musky smell of antiques compatible with food service? Not sure how I feel about this, but I ordered a huckleberry soda, anyway. I was curious. It turned out to be one of the best flavored sodas I've ever had. I loved the huckleberry syrup. The antique selection was well-curated. Lots of interesting trinkets and jewelry. Everything you'd expect from an antique shop, plus a gentleman's room full of old Playboys tucked into the back. Service was friendly, and there was plenty of parking. There was no wait. This is a great alternative to stopping by one of the big busy farms if you're just looking for a quick drink, or (obviously) if you're into antiques.

One woman was working; I'm not sure if she was the owner. She was mid-way through an ice cream order for the customers ahead of us, so we shopped while we waited our turn. We had items in our hands when she finished with the other customers, flipped the lights off with us still standing inside, and walked out the door to take down the open sign. When she came back in -- us standing there in the dark -- she announced she was closing. We said, "Okay, I guess no ice cream? We'll put our stuff back." Not a word. No "sorry." No "I can still ring you up or get you anything." No acknowledgment at all. She just stood there and watched us set everything down and walk out, kids and all. She made it clear we weren't worth the effort, and did it in the rudest way available to her. Two disappointed teenagers, a wasted drive, and the low point of what had been a great day in the area. Can't tell you a thing about the ice cream. What I can tell you is how this place treats people who show up before closing time. Don't bother.
