My pathway to my backyard was a mess. The ground was uneven and tiles were broken and it just…read morelooked terrible. I contacted Denys and told him about the project and he asked my wife and I what we had in mind which was pavers on top of a rock base. Due to a drainage screen we cannot have cement poured without a major HOA process and additional cost. Denys explained to us what he proposed and got our input. He came up with a number of good suggestions we did not think of! He gave us an estimate for the job - which he met, that was reasonable we hired him. When he completed the job we were more than happy. He was a hard worker and completed the job within 30 minutes of the projected time. Denys got rid of all the broken tiles and dirt and left the area spotless. Something that impressed me was he did not like the way the drain looked and did some additional work to make it line up perfectly with the pavers. I had told him the way it looked was fine but he said he wanted to realign it to his satisfaction. Needless to say I will call Kliu Builders again for any project I have to take care of. He was first to responding our add for hire, and started the job literally next day on Thursday, promising to finish it within 1-1/2 to 2 days. At the end of the day on Thursday, he said, that he couldn't come on Friday of Saturday, but "surely" would finish the work on Monday. On Monday instead of coming to finish it, he promised to come between 3 and 4 PM "to discuss it" (came out - to take a deposit for the materials). He still had not showed up or called until 4:45 PM, when I had to call him and let him know that I will hire someone else with better work ethics to finish the job.

When we moved out there was normal wear and tear in the apartment. They charged Greystar $430 to spot paint an 800 sq ft apartment. They also charged a cleaning fee on top of a floor scrubbing fee. Doesn't cleaning fee include floor scrubbing? They also charged us $100 to paint a concrete 20 sq ft patio. I would stick to what you are good at and leave the cleaning and painting to the professionals. Overall I would not use such a shady and unscrupulous business that is ripping off their clients.

We hired Naser and the team at Accord Design to entirely remodel our 1950's era (all original - not…read morethe good kind of original) house. I highly recommend Naser and his team. They did high quality work that was on time, on budget and at a fair cost. Working within the existing footprint of the house, we gutted, reconfigured, took down a couple of walls and updated the kitchen, two bathrooms, and three bedrooms. We put in all new all new flooring, all new windows (adding some windows) and french doors. We added closet space, expanded both bathrooms, and put in all new ceiling lighting throughout the house. We also painted and textured all the interior walls, painted and re-stuccoed the exterior, added a laundry room, and added electrical outlets. I'm probably forgetting something else we did too. All that to say, this was no easy job. In an old 1950's house, who knows what you will find behind the walls. You have to be ready to make decisions and trust your contractor to guide you. Naser and his team worked diligently on our house remodel, they were on time and worked hard to keep to schedule. When changes were made or we decided to do something differently, we felt Naser was always fair. When unexpected expenses came up, he worked with us to find the best solution that met our needs and helped keep costs down. We love our "new" house. Thank you Naser and Accord Design!

But after seeing Mike working, I trusted him to replace 3 bathroom faucets. That's when I realized that he is not just a handyman. For my budget, I thought at first that he was a bit too pricy (for a handyman), but his quality of work was worth the price. You can trust his workmanship and therefore I guess the price was okay. He comes on time and finishes the job in good stead, which is very important to me.

We hired Alan (also known as Alec, he will go by a different name with different people depending…read moreon what negative comments he has online about him at the moment) for a major project over the past year and paid him more than $450,000 in total. He completed his final project with us yesterday. Per our contract I was supposed to withhold 6k until the project was fully completed and we did a walk through. Against my better judgement I agreed to pay him $4300 of that payment early because he was low on funds. I felt bad for him what can I say. So at that point I still owed him a remaining balance of $1,700 that I fully intended to pay him once he finished the final touches on some trim and other misc. things. After about 4 weeks of no progress on those misc. items, I had to start bugging him every day for updates on when things would be completed. Fast forward another 2 weeks or so, he finally completed the last item. As soon as the work was complete Alan/Alec called me 4 times in a row. I was busy at work so didn't have time to answer. I got off work that evening around 7pm and we had some friends over for a baseball game, so I didn't have time to call Alan/Alec back yet. That same evening, Alan showed up at our home unannounced around 8 p.m., demanding payment. He arrived with an angry and confrontational attitude, and when I answered the door, the situation quickly escalated. I was rightfully frustrated that he showed up requesting to get paid in cash right in that moment, I tried to close the door, Alan shoved it back open and attempted to force his way inside. I pushed him back. The confrontation that followed was witnessed by multiple people and captured on our Ring camera (posting the video here so people can see what Alan/Alec looks like in case he changes his name again in the future. He also brought his son with him, which suggests the visit was planned and deliberate (what a sad decision on his part as a father) Throughout the course of our projects, Alan proved to be unreliable and difficult to work with. He frequently made decisions without our approval, even after we clearly asked him to confirm with us before proceeding. He ignored instructions, made careless mistakes, and overlooked details that any attentive professional should have caught. Despite these issues, we continued to pay him on time and treat him respectfully. At one point, due to a mistake made by his own office transferring funds into the wrong account, we had to double pay him ahead of schedule to keep the project moving. A $60,000 payment temporarily became $120,000 because he said he couldn't wait for the transfer to resolve. We also lived next door to the project site, and it quickly became clear that without our daily oversight, the home would have been a complete mess. His team often lacked direction and made careless errors when left unsupervised. Alan can be very friendly when trying to earn your business, but that professionalism disappears once the contract is signed. His behavior at the end of this project was completely unprofessional, inappropriate, and unacceptable. We've always paid him promptly and treated him with respect, so this incident was shocking and deeply disappointing. We strongly caution anyone considering working with him to proceed carefully, get everything in writing, don't deviate at all from the contract even if he tries to make you feel bad for him or play on your empath.

As with any big job, there were a few corrections at the end (not many!). What is important and appreciated is that they addressed these immediately and without question. In addition to the high quality work, Alec also made some excellent design recommendations for tile and flooring materials and colors. We ended up going with his choices and the results look outstanding. We couldn't be more pleased. Throughout the process, Alec was always responsive and answered all of our questions thoroughly and honestly. He made what could have been a difficult process very easy. In short, I'd highly recommend Alec and American Renavatu to any homeowner in need of a reliable general contractor.
