This environment elevated our band's sound quality by 1000%. We're called Cosmic Butterflies [And A Bear]. For our first song, we arrived with a massive multitrack sequence, featuring nine different bandmates (harp, flute, cello, voices...), and our engineer made excellent enhancements, mixing and mastering it all into a unified arrangement. Highly dissappointed in their sevices. There are 3 rules to recording music, regardless of the type/style/genre. 1. Lay down a scratch track (bass/guitar/piano/whatever...) 2. Lay down the percussion track overtop of the scratch track. a. Ensure that the percussion track matches the scratch track and is on-time. 3. Lay down the real instruments over top of the percussion track, and finally removing the original scratch track. These rules must be followed, and in this order. This isn't something new or magical, this is how this process works. Once Rule three is finished, you cannot go back and change the percussion track(rule 2), unless you are willing to invest the time and resources into editing the instruments that were layed down in rule 3. Which can take a really long time, and the product won't sound like it did originally. Orb Recording Studios broke rule #2 with my project(this is what novice recording folks do, even amateurs understand this concept). I received an email a few days after my session that literally read: "here is your track, some of the guitar is skewing because we changed the tempo to the drums, sorry about that, but it was great working with you, here is your track!" Ummmmmm.... No, that's not how this works, and that's not how you turn over a project. I have opened a dialog with the owner of this company (CB Hudson), who has assured me that he will put some other engineer on this project and re-mix it. I have requested one of the only engineers that they have on staff that understands how to record technical music, and I have a feeling that he is being forced to complete this project on his own time, without pay. Simply put, if you would like to record something that is akin to Jazz or Technical Metal, find a different studio(was told several times that the ride cymbal was out of time, upon requesting the original un-edited project, there is nothing wrong with the cymbals, or the snare drum whatsoever, also bass drums were fixed simply by highlighting the track, right clicking and selecting "snap to grid." Unsure why it took them 7 days to deliver a horrible sounding recording). If you want to record a triangle and a horn(from scratch), feel free to use this studio. Ultimately, I was forced to mix this myself, which is exactly why you would pay an engineer, so that they can do that. So again, save your money and go elsewhere(could have done this cheaper and with better quality in a closet with my own equipment). The engineer that was originally assigned to me just wants to get rid of me and pawn me off on someone else, due to the fact that he really doesn't know how to record music or work pro tools (the easiest program ever). Listen guys, it's great that you have literally millions of dollars of awesome equipment to use, but it really does you no good if no one on staff knows how to use the equipment on hand. read more

I've worked with these guys a couple of times. I'm not a recording artist myself, but set up a couple of sessions for a friend who was. CB was outstanding to work with. Very friendly, helpful, and flexible. My friend had a great experience as well. The engineer he worked with knew exactly how to capture the vision in his mind, and the result was fantastic.
