What made it even better was the maple syrup and chocolate hazelnut drizzle! As for the texture, the pancakes were a touch dense as the only leavening agent was whipped egg whites, which I personally did not mind since flavours and textures can be different compared to what we are used to when we use natural food products. SOUS VIDE POACHED FREE RANGE EGGS $9.95. The next plate on the table is what I believe Foodies on Board should be known for, their sous vide poached eggs! We decided to try a Belgian waffle (additional $1.00) as well as the hash browns (additional $1.95) rather than the traditional English muffins. I love how you can mix and match and do not have to order two of the same items! The crispy Belgian waffle topped with wild BC salmon (additional $1.00) had a generous rich and buttery hollandise. On top of that the spinach, lemon caper and cream cheese complimented the salmon well despite that the salmon was on the saltier side. As for the highlight, it was the perfectly executed sous vide egg - honestly the egg could not be any more perfect! The second "benny" we ordered consisted of house cut hash browns topped with arugula and in house cured smoked bacon. The crispy hash browns exhibited a fluffy interior and was well seasoned with garlic and paprika. Moreover, the crispy bacon was perfectly executed - slow cooked, smokey without overwhelming and well rendered. To brighten up the plate, there is also a slice of dragon fruit, pineapple, grapes and blueberries. Yum! FOODIES HASH BROWNS BOWL $12.95. The last breakfast item we ordered was a bowl of house cut potatoes similar to the hash benny and we added another perfect sous vide egg ($1.00?). The hash was noticeably a lot crispier compared to the benny and there was a nice smokiness from the house sausage and cheese. The sauteed onions, peppers and tomatoes complimented the hash as well. THE GARDEN SMOOTHIE $6.95. We finished off breakfast with a smoothie blended with kale, spinach, celery, bitter melon, honey dew, banana and pineapple juice. This is the story of finding a better sandwich which most of you probably have not found yet, or you call that place... (Finch's, ahem) the place which you swear by, well I'm calling this out, shots fired, that you can forget about the one you know, cause the new kid is way better at sandwiches and it will be only a matter of time before I put in another order and go pick it up! Crumb does not have a store front, so you are going to have to put your order over the phone or on their website and go to their place of business which is a commissary where most of the food-trucks in this city produce food before they roll out like Transformers out to the city. When I arrived the food was already nicely packaged and bagged and ready to go. What you ask was ordered: Fried Chicken sandwich, Prociutto & Pear (both lunch box meals with salad) and an order of sourdough bread and focaccia for home munching. They guided me up to their workspace area as David took my order, and Trevor was cutting up onions probably for another sandwich order that was being placed. I was off with my huge two packages, ready to devour soon as I awaited my partner in crime for lunch. I did not waste too much time on not eating my meal, it is fried chicken in a sandwich after all, and it is very smart that they have stickers to identify which box is which sandwich, and when you open it, these guys know how to place and package, where it was nicely cut into even portions and wrapped in wax paper. The piece of buttermilk fried chicken was still crispy on the outside, and this was probably a good 20+ minutes since I removed it from when they cooked it, placed in between the milk & honey bread with a great balance of pea sprouts, radicchio, apple, cilantro and lime, every bite was hearty but not heavy, there was always a bite, yet there was always great balance where you didn't feel over-breaded, or over-meated and usually I am pretty done after a half a sandwich, where I could have eaten the other half, but wait I had another type of sandwich to gobble up, I can definitely recommend this sandwich, as I would order it again. Onto my second half of the lunch, which is the prociutto and pear, and anyone who has eaten artisan sandwiches in Vancouver swear by one place (which has been named already) and I have had it, I was not 'wowed' I enjoyed the combination of sweet and savory but I thought that the bread used was a stale white floured unmemorable holder of the in betweens of this package. Now comes this same creation with more a way higher premium package, to start off is the outsides, which is a fig and walnut bread, and then you have the onion jam, prociutto, caramelized pear, brie and arugula.... reaction, holy smokes, this is the crown winner for this sandwich, hands down with a slap in the face. You can actually taste everything from the fine crunch of the fresh bread to the mixture from all the different textures within this creation where I loved the addition of the onion jam, and the course feeling this provided to the smooth brie, and biting down on the pear which made this sandwich refreshing, all the way down to the meat, now in non-dirty words: now that's a package! I almost suffered food coma, my significant other... well you are going to have to ask her, all i know is she was still snacking on their house-made sour dough loaf tonight, where I tried a bite, and I have never had a loaf so fluffy fresh where I am beginning to think I'll make some sandwiches this week.... maybe not if we just polish off the bread. When we arrived, we were offered our choice of beers (we both opted for the local Belgian style which was excellent) or wine. There was a generous assortment of 3 manchego cheeses (truffle, black garlic and our favourite: chestnut!) as well as a selection of 4 Iberico cured meats. We also enjoyed a delicious bite of the Spanish tortilla (with potato and onions) which was silky and delicious. Chef Javier discussed the paellas we were making (seafood & valenciana with chicken), and led a quick demo of how to make Spanish style sangria, as well as how to prepare the fresh artichokes for the Valenciana paella. Then, we were off to cook! There are a max of 12 people in every class, and they had 2 paella pans for seafood and 2 for the Valenciana set up. Happily, we ended up on the seafood side of the class. Chef Javier encourages everyone to participate in the preparation of the paellas, but I opted to take judicious notes instead. Then, it was time to eat! The paellas were really excellent, very flavourful. We were given very generous portions of each and extra to take home. We also got a lovely almond tart with the Santiago cross, but I was so full, I took it home. We were given an opportunity to buy anything we wanted from them (cheeses, cured meats, rice, equipment, etc). So, was it worth $120/pp plus an expensive Uber ride from downtown? We attended this year's "Dine Out Menu With Four Courses & Live Spanish Music" event which took…read moreplace at the Dageraad Brewery located just 5 mins walk from the Production Way Skytrain station. It was an unforgettable night of tapas, paella, beer and live music where we felt like we were transported to Spain! I highly recommend you arrive at the venue at least half an hour before the event so you can grab a beer from the brewery and enjoy their nicely decorated space. When it was time for the event, we were directed to a big indoor space right next door from the tasting room. As soon as we entered the space, we noticed a beautifully decorated long table that could fit 50 people and a paella cooking station right next to it with chefs hard at work. There was also a band singing live Spanish music, which added to the experience of an authentic Spanish meal. After we purchased our drinks (beer and wine) for our meals, we sat down just in time for the first course to arrive. The meal started with Spanish Tapas which was a selection of assorted Spanish iberico meats, jamon iberico, anchovy marinated aceituna, marconas and tortilla de patatas (Spanish quiche.) The second course was a hearty Mediterranean Salad. Both of these courses were served family style, and staff were very attentive in refilling them when we were out. The star of the meal was definitely the Paella Mixta which was made with bomba rice, slow-cooked chicken, red pepper, mushrooms, onions, prawns, tomatoes, garlic, pimenton and house-made seafood stock. The chicken and prawns were cooked perfectly, with the rice tasting heavenly. Throughout the meal, the owner would walk up and down the long table covering with guests, telling stories about the dishes. It added meaningful context to the experience. The finale of the meal of the Tarta de Santiago, which is a traditional almond cake from Galicia is made into a tartlet to enjoy.
