I love coming here. They have an amazing selection of plans, knowledgeable staff, and fun & festive themes for holidays. It's kind of tucked away from Mt Diablo Blvd and really easy to get to from highway 24. Just slow down on Mt Diablo and you'll see the signs on the north side. The nursery is located down the hill - it's an oasis of beauty! On my last trip, I asked Shanna to help me find plants for the new column shaped pot we just bought. We talked about colors and textures and she put together 3 plants. She also gave me suggestions for how to arrange them. All 3 plants are still doing well, 2 months later. I love coming here and it's really hard not leaving with some kind of plant! This nursery is beautiful and meticulously cared for like no other. The choices in varieties and colors is very exciting if you're looking for color for your yard. There was a hummingbird and many bees buzzing around all wonderful signs of what foliage you may want to bring home to your garden too! Even if you don't have a yard, they have an excellent succulent section. I have a great little selection of small succulents growing in my kitchen window. So there's something for everyone, it's a worthwhile trip to a beautiful place. read more

Wonderful assortment, fun holiday activities, on ground pets are friendly and fun! (My kids love the turtle and coy pond) Had to take off points because they're overpriced- crazy over priced. I go there for specialty items only. If you want standard items, don't waste your money. Yikes. Very expensive nursery and they are very strict about returns. Update - I've been there two more times since then to see if I could find things I couldn't find at other nurseries. Still no one greets you, asks if you need help finding something. Employees congregating around and talking to each other, and the place is totally dead since Covid. I bought a few things I was looking for everywhere but it REALLY irritated me to give them my money. ....... Great stuff but their staff is just so unfriendly I don't get why. I was there during the week and 6 employees were inside this gazebo talking and I needed something but by that time gave up. Not one person spoke to me and the place is very well staffed. read more

I am kind of in love with Orchard Nursery and completely giddy about finding a new garden store to add to my rotation. The layout and attention to detail makes a trip here an experience versus a simple stop for plants. I felt as if I were treated to a mini botanical garden and I could wile away a good part of the afternoon looking at everything on offer. All the plants I saw looked healthy with glorious blooms. Their variety is top notch and I was especially impressed with the selection of lavender and sage, two plants that seem to do well in my sunny yard. In addition to seasonal items, they have perennial garden favorites, hanging floral baskets, ground cover, succulents and an adorable indoor plant section/florist, complete with nature inspired home decor. For $24.99, I left with some flowering sage, two succulents to add as border plants, and a small indoor fern. Customer service at the register was friendly, although no one seemed to be asking if I needed help while I was browsing outdoors. It was okay-I was kind of just lost in garden euphoria and knew what I was looking for. Definitely a 5 star nursery, but reserving the 5th star for after I plant everything and see how it does. I can't believe I went to college nearby at saint Mary's and never checked this place out ! I stopped by after doing a walk at the reservoir , and I wasn't disappointed at all. So much selection . I'm into houseplants and there was a lot of healthy variety of plants to choose from . From popular to more rare , like the Birkin plant .. I left with a few that I'm excited to watch grow ! No associates asked me if I needed help when I came in the nursery , but when I asked an associate for info on a plant I was purchasing she was very helpful and gave me handouts for each of the plants I was buying detailing how to care for them. So that was nice !! They also have tons of pots :planters that are gorgeous but definitely on the expensive side . I was also impressed with their inventory of succulents ! I will definitely be back here again! So many beautiful plants !! read more

I wished I paid more attention to the plant before I bought it from Orchard. I thought they are very reputable so it never occurred to me that a plant could be diseased when I bought it. Once I got it home I looked and saw some black spots on the leaves. It turned out to be black spot leaf fungus. I am now trying to rescue the plant. It's too bad as the plant cost about twice as much as another place. I'm quite disappointed. So if you want to buy from this pLace, check carefully because not all plants are in best condition. read more

I've been shopping at Orchard for years...Even though the prices are higher than other nursery, the the plants are the healthiest, much of the plant stock comes from Monrovia which I consider the best grower. After the pandemic, Orchard changed their hours, closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays, not surprised because as we know everything changed, it may have to do with staffing problems or those two days are not profitable days. My problem... I was needing a large pot, last time I was in Orchard had pots 50% off and also plants for the pot. It's now finally Thursday morning, yippee off to Orchard I go arriving at 9:30, it's been hot so the sooner the better. When I arrived, I said good morning to the two women in front at the corner where Lazy K is, doing some display setup. I said good morning in a cheerful voice, without looking up a woman grumbled good morning the other woman said nothing. I enter the nursery, employees are doing busy work which is fine I understand. I have a question about soil, specifically a potting soil "EB stone Recipe 420" potting soil. I was going to plant a Hydrangea in a large pot, want to make sure I have the soil right. One guy that I know in his 30's who has been with Orchard for quite a long time, was watering but happy to have the soil conversation with me and provided me with the information I needed. Next I'm looking for a Double File Viburnum in a 5 gal., I approach another man that I recognize who's been with Orchard forever, he's watering, he's over by the entrance to the cashiers by the pond. I approach him "excuse me, can you tell me where the Viburnums are" because I can't seem to find them. Barely looking up, he points, over there by the 2nd square...I walk around looking for the 2nd square, I'm looking in the shady section where the hydrangeas are, still looking I can't find the Viburnum. Reluctant to ask the watering guy again and putting him out interrupting him from his important watering, a older gentleman is walking my way, I ask him, he's not sure so he asks the watering guy who points him in the direction. At last there they are, looking kind of sad. Next, I'm looking for some 4" to tuck into the pot, where is the amazing woman who has the class "thrillers spillers fillers", there she is, I have one question for her about a plant, excuse me, can I ask you a question, she hurriedly walking, barely acknowledged me, she says that she has a call, I say that ok I will walk with you, it's a simple question which would have a yes or no answer, which she did answer. Ok great thank you! Now I'm walking around over by the 4" perennials, looking at one plant that I'm not familiar with, I ask a woman who's filling the shelves, if the woman is around that plants the pots, she answered kind of insulted "she didn't plant all of these pots, what is your question?" Ok, so I ask her the question, she told me what I needed to know, I add the plant to my shopping card along with other plants. On my way to check out, I'm becoming frustrated and a little angry. I walk over to the 6" impatients, grab 1, leave the cart, go inside to check out, the really nice staff greet me, ask me if I found everything I was looking for, I answer yes, pay for my 6 pack and leave... That could have been a $200 sale, but instead less than $10 for some overpriced impatients. I ended up going to Sloat Garden Center and even drove to ACE Garden center in Alamo where I used a $5 off coupon to purchase my potting soil. The following day Friday, I bring my husband in, we purchase the pot, there are the 2 woman in the front deadheading the hanging geraniums, I don't bother saying good morning. End of story...Perhaps if your thinking of visiting Orchard, do it later in the morning or afternoon so they won't be so busy watering. Thanks for taking the time to read my vent. read more

We went to orchard nursery today in hopes of finding some plants for our veggie bed. We made it as far as their front gate where we were informed that children are not allowed. A follow up call said they are following city ordinances. This is not the case. There is no city ordinance allowing the barring of children. This is blatant discrimination against children. We've always been avid supporters of local and have spent hundreds of dollars in the past at this store. No more. From now on we will be going to other nurseries, with our children, at half the cost. read more

I was looking for a few indoor plants (that purifies the air). Customer service was very friendly and directed me to several areas where the plants were located. Yes - there was a line to get in (this was mid-May) the parking lot - but they wave you in when there's a spot. It moved fairly quickly. We waited maybe 10 minutes on a weekend. Be forewarned, there's a sign while you are driving in at the entrance that no kids are allowed (due to COVID). Prices aren't the cheapest but they do have a large assortment of plants. read more

This is probably the biggest nursery I've had the pleasure of visiting. There is a huge variety of plants. If you think you're not that into plants I feel like it's impossible to walk into this place and not walk out with at least one new plant. They have a nice loyalty system too that gives discounts for your birthday. If you ask, they can give you an informational paper with how to care for each of the plants you've purchased. read more

As a mom to two boys.... Getting them to like plants means cactuses and carnivorous plants! Thanks to the expert advice from Emily and Ava, we left with prickly, hungry plants! Firstly, I love garden nurseries and have gone to most of them in the Bay Area. Visited several around the world also. Orchard is outstanding in that they carry an amazing assortment of herbs and veggies you won't find elsewhere. The staff is knowledgeable and always there to assist. Those who have complained on previous reviews, well, perhaps it's because they did not ask for assistance. I have never - ever come across a rude employee, but I have seen employees rudely treated by customers, yet the assistant still handles the situation with grace - BRAVO! The crafty planting classes are so much fun. My mother and I have attended several over the years. Now for Christmas! It's simply amazing! I'm like a kid in a candy factory, 'oooing & aaawing' over everything on display. Prices are a bit high but perhaps it's because they carry superior product. On the flip side, they have phenomenal sales. Needless to say, Orchard is one of my most favorite places to visit. read more

I ask a woman if she could have someone from the pots department help me with getting the right pot. She mentioned that I had a yellow . He saw me a proceeded to help the white woman near me. For the casual gardener who wants help with plant health and growth, Orchard is a great resource. The staff is technically knowledgeable and willingly helpful. No down-talking or horti-splaining here!! Their extensive stock and selection of fertilizers, foods, soils, pest remedies, tools, planting vessels will address just about every need with a great fit. Prices seem to me a little Loftyette, but that comes with the territory and since I'm not a weekly buyer, I'm okay with the premium for their service and selection. I think that there may be better places around for purchasing plants, but haven't found any place as good nearby for the garnishes that make for a healthy garden read more

With visions of pretty new roses winning ribbons, we decided to replace some of our old gnarly ones. Orchard still has a large selection of bare root roses to choose from. We like to buy them in person rather than online. Hoping that by examining them we can pick the very best ones. Jackson and Perkins still have an online site you can order the same roses from. They are cheaper and I am sure the roses would be fine. However, J&P went bankrupt and are no longer in business. I don't know who maintains the website. All the J&P roses are now Weeks Roses and they only sell wholesale. I think you would be happier if you buy roses locally. Orchard is a great spot to find quality roses along with other garden delights. I'll be back next month for tomatoes read more
