This orchard and family is absolutely AH-mazing! I first learned about this nursery last year when I was invited by a regular family to meet them here for photos! This year I brought my grandson for a photo with Santa and Cari, the photographer was awesome! She took photos and even though my grandson was a bit scared, they turned out lovely! A perfect moment, and I am ever so grateful! This is such a nice gesture and we will have to make this an annual event. This is like a winter wonderland right in the middle of Lafayette, they have the most amazing ornaments, trees and more, we never leave there without buying something! If you need a Christmas gift, come here, not only are they awesome with excellent customer service, they have toys for kids of all ages, like me! Love this place for so many reasons! Wow!! If you're a garden enthusiast, this is your place! So many unbelievable things to choose from. The layout is fun and lots of little nooks and crannies to wander through. There's even a coy pond with a real turtle. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. It was a rainbow of beauty. I can't wait to come back. I picked up a lovely, blue birdbath which seems hard to find in the Bay Area unless you're ok with resin or plain concrete. Like purple? They have beautiful purple planters! No one has purple. Hidden gem! I've been hunting down nurseries in the east bay for the last year to fuel my plant addiction and I think I hit the jackpot. This nursery is soooo big and the stock is pretty great. I stopped by on a busy weekend so unfortunately I didn't find many rare plants but I got a beautiful, healthy krimson Queen Hoya pretty reasonably priced. The only reason I'm docking a star is because the prices for their pots and other plant accessories seemed to be a little higher than others in the area. Nevertheless, I'm coming back. The staff is awesome and super helpful, they are implementing new COVID procedures to ensure the safety of everyone and they have anything you may need for your plant needs. Seriously the worst experience I have had in a very long time. I really wanted to give this a zero. I had ordered plants this morning via phone and drove in from Alamo. I did not realize that the nursery was so busy that there was a line of cars to get in. I actually thought there was some type of event. I had passed several cars to find handicapped spot and 3 ladies of Lafayette yelled at me. Very mean and nasty. Ruined a really nice day. These ladies were very threatening including lady directing traffic who I think was the woman who works in the lazy k gift shop. She was directing traffic and my friend left her car to jump in with me and she says you are not leaving your car are you? Omg my friend just had knee surgery .. the Lady in the gift shop definitely needs an attitude adjustment . What should happen is to stop traffic at top of hill before customers go down hill and get stuck . There is one way in and one way out. You get trapped... !! Owner needs to regulate traffic and limit people coming in. Again a terrible experience ..I have other nursuries to shop in like Sloats. Save yourself the stress and shop Elseware... read more

I'm renovating my backyard and preparing for my winter garden. This place is dangerous because there's so much to choose from! Absolutely beautifully colored pots with a huge selection, and tons of different plants to choose from. I think service is pretty good here. The only time I've found it a little lacking is during the fall when everyone's there trying to buy their harvest/halloween stuff but that's understandable. I needed to find a native no-mow grass seed to supplement some dead areas of sod that we laid last year, so called to see if they carried it. They didn't, but said they would find out the minimum I could buy and call me back. They did so within a couple of hours, then took my order over the phone. The seed was in either the next day or the day after....I couldn't believe how fast it was. Not cheap - a pound of seed costs $135 before tax - yikes....but I knew it wasn't going to be cheap. Anyway, Orchard is definitely on my rotation of nurseries to peruse. read more

Christmas gift cards. I contacted Orchard Nursery, a beautiful nursery, to buy two $200 gift cards for Christmas for two separate family members. I ordered them on Dec 9 and my credit card was charged the same day. After several days I contacted them as the cards had not come in the mail. (they are in the East Bay I am on the Peninsula...mail is delivered the next day from East Bay to Peninsula) I was told there were problems with the mail service and pick up was sporatic and to wait a few days. I did so, no cards. I called again and was told it was odd as mail pick up was twice a day (hmmm, not what I was told on first call....)and to wait another few days. Next call I was again told to wait but I insisted they be reissued and held there, not put once again in the mail. I did not have cards for Christmas but wrote up something myself about cards being held at nursery. Today, Dec 29 I received the missing cards in the mail. Originally they had been sent out but without a stamp and then returned by the post office to Orchard Nursery. The original envelope was then mailed with a stamp and return info on envelope from post office blacked out with a pen. Not even a new envelope! No phone call (they have my number )to let me know what happened or to apologize for their mailing error. Rather shocking on the customer support level, Word to Orchard Nursery: it would be impressive if your detail and customer service matched the products your business carries. Truly that would make for an easy 100% recommendation to others for doing business with you. read more

I used to love this place but the greed-o-meter has been ratcheted up and the quality and service has not. I've spent thousands upon thousands of dollars here, and I was very upset that they wouldn't let me return a houseplant that was dying despite my following their watering instructions. It was a $25. plant, and I was offended that the salesperson insisted I had let it get too dry when I hadn't. Really mediocre customer service! This was a young-ish woman in the indoor plant section. I adore this place, as I had been told I would based on my friends knowledge of my love for flowers. This place is no bargain but it isn't trying to be. Gorgeous selection and very helpful staff that keeps things watered! Having always gone into the shop after completing my planting purchases, as a delight and treat, I was so disappointed upon a trip last week. Gone are the beautiful displays of chic vintage, infused with contemporary unique collectables. Instead I found a mass of cheap unattractive items, one could find in any Target or Walmart. What has happened, the last buyer and display person seem to have left...as I did. I would always find a beautiful item to take home and display or wear... not now...left empty handed and will probably not be back. This place is huge. I would say they're more of a nursery than a floral shop, but don't let that deter you from picking up some bouquets/arrangements here. They have 2 medium sized fridges of cut flowers. Flowers are reasonably priced. This is my second time here for flowers and will definitely be a repeating customer. I came in with a vague idea of what I wanted: minimalist, chic, modern design. After showing me what they had, the florist gave me some ideas of what would look good. We discussed a few options. In the end, I got an arrangement of 3 flowers (don't know their names) (see pictures: it's the one in the cylindrical vase with 3 magenta flowers). I absolutely loved it! It was the perfect thank you gift arrangement for my mom. Originally, the flowers were arranged such that their stems had a very nice bend in them (like a 'J'), but it got undone on the bumpy drive. I tried to recreate it, but to no avail. I think I managed to get it somewhat close to how the florist had it originally. read more

The beautiful grounds, decor and seasonal decorations are just beautiful, idea inspiring arrangements, truly a lovely refuge and a gardeners dream. We buy all of our plants, materials & supplies here because they are of the highest quality hence 100% successful in your landscaping. Their professional staff, always available to answer questions, have been imperative to us in choosing the right plant for specific areas of our yard, taking into consideration light, soil and season. I used to love this place. I have been going here for over a decade with my family but the service has gone down while the prices keep going up. Even the plant quality has gone down. They have quite a bit of space for an abundance of plant varieties but in the end the service and quality of plants isnt worth it. Go take a look, then go else where and save your money. read more

I last came here in July and bought an aglaonema in a 6" pot. It was in great condition and I was somewhat satisfied with the purchase (since I used the July-only store dollars). Most of the staff have always been very welcoming and helpful. Though almost all of the plants are in good condition, their costs are way more than they should be in my opinion. I have been to many nurseries in the Bay (with plants in similar health/condition) and Orchard's seem to have some of the highest prices. Their peperomioides and monsteras were nearly double the price (and half the size) of the ones I've seen in SF, Concord, and Redwood City nurseries. Their outdoor plants seem to be more well-priced so perhaps it's just their houseplants. I'd be down to come back again if I'm tagging along with a friend but don't think this will be my go-to place. read more

I've been to Orchard in the past and was very impressed. Beautiful quality plants and helpful staff. But, I cannot figure out why their current COVID restrictions (per their website) are so stringent. The website says their staff is too small to answer phone questions. With a limited number of customers inside It seems like the staff would have more time to answer calls, not less, and be emphasizing this no-contact service. If I need a particular plant why should I be need to drive all the way there to find if it is stock? I would be one less customer trying to park and enter. Why do we have to park in their lot to enter the store? Why are children not allowed? None of this makes sense and, other than restricting the number of customers inside, none of it is required by COVID restrictions. read more

I am only giving Orchard three stars because they are WAY over priced. That being said I still love love love this nursery around Christmas time. We were in the mood to go look at different nurseries in the nearby Walnut Creek area we found this place going through yelp and just googling first thing I would say it's right off the freeway once you make a left it's not too far down the street it is a pretty interesting drive in as you can see the outside area is pretty big they have a Lotta different statues and different types of compost and mulch you can buy parking it's somewhat tight but definitely not too tight if you bring a truck you may wanna park on the end the moment you walk in you can tell it's very clean and organized and taking care of the staff as welcoming but also pretty quiet and some of the areas the prices were a little higher than what we were used to but again given the location we were at we anticipated the prices. Lots of great choices of plants they do have some vera gated plants that are pretty much the popular thing on social media the outside area is pretty big so you definitely want to take your time take a look and ask questions for the most part the staff was very open in friendly read more

Situated on an old pear orchard and fruit stand, this nursery has an extensive selection of not only perennials and annuals but also fruit trees and a variety of vegetable seeds. It is worth noting that Orchard Nursery has an amazing collection of roses. It was wonderful to stroll through the many aisles of roses of every kind - landscape shrubs, English style, climbing, miniature and countless other types of roses! It was delightful to see the many vibrant colors of roses and smell the sweet scents of these flowers. Throughout the nursery you will see displayed outdoor pottery, fountains, statuary, arbors and trellises which can be bought at the garden shop. In addition to the flower and garden shop, there is also a gift shop "Lazy K" which was the home of the original ranch owners. At the gift shop you will find wreaths, decorative accessories, garden art, and giftware. Though prices are a bit high at Orchard Nursery - everything found here is of a high quality. The staff seem to be repelled by the customers, like oil and water. Sure, you see plenty of them hanging around chatting, running to and fro. But you won't be offered any help by a single one of them. Maybe it's a Lafayette thing. You could be down on your knees, spewing blood, or maybe standing in the turtle/fish pond trying to catch dinner, and they'd probably not stop what they are doing to give you a hand. On the positive side, they do have an excellent selection of plants to choose from. But you will be paying a premium for them. That is a Lafayette thing. read more

We have been spending far too much time and money at Orchard these past several months, but as usual, it's completely worth it. My hons of husband decided to make some serious changes in the garden after we removed one of our oak trees. The amount of sun that we gained was astonishing! We could actually buy plants for SUN rather than SHADE! Woo-hoo! He did some research and we headed over to Orchard. As usual, the selection is huge and very eclectic. You can find things here that you would never find at a big box store like Home Depot. After a few months, our garden looks amazing and has lots of new species that are flourishing. I had the pleasure of meeting Allison the other day at Orchard. She was very knowledgeable and took time to explain the benefits of the type of plant I was looking for as a gift. And she showed me the options inside and also took me outside which is where I made my final decision. She then wrapped it up so beautifully after I explained to her that it was for a more modern setting. She really took the time to understand my needs and is definitely an asset at the store. Today I drove all the way out from Brentwood to Orchard Nursery in Lafayette, with my husband and son, who was holding my hand and wearing a mask. We drove in, waived at the man standing at gate, waived at the woman at the inside gate- only to be told that no children under 12 were allowed, and that an adult had to sit in the car with him and wait- it's 87 degrees out! The selection at Orchard is large and the plants are extremely healthy. They have some very knowledgeable staff. On more than one occasion, I have brought samples of plants from my yard for identification, and they have been able to help me. They have also assisted when plants have been sick. They suggest a recovery plan and products, and I'm happy to say every plant has recovered (trees included). And, my son loves to visit the turtle there! So why a 4 instead of a 5? I wish the prices were lower. read more
