Kayaking for any experience level. Getting in and out of the kayak was so easy with their custom ramp. You don't have to worry about tipping over into the water because you are still on the ramp. Then you just slide right in. Getting out is the same, you paddle up the ramp then get out. I was the only one on the tour and Becca(h?) was my guide. We went down the sea wall which had tons of birds (loons, pelicans, gulls, etc.), passed the small island with all of the sea lions, then along the main piers/boardwalk area and to the bridge. We also had a couple of harbor seals following us around which was pretty cool. She would have taken me farther, but it was only my second time on a kayak and even though I felt perfectly safe I felt like I had gone far enough. (I am old, and my arms were getting tired because I did not listen to her and paddle from my core/torso like I should have.) On the way back she did give me some other options on where I might want to explore out of the wind where it was easier to paddle since we still had plenty of time left. She was very sweet and accommodating. Just keep in mind it is a different experience than if you were on a lake or river out in the middle of nowhere. Tons to see, but less 'peaceful'. However, the convenience of being able to make this a quick/fun outing on a road trip down the coast was priceless. I definitely enjoyed the experience overall. read more

My twins' experience while participating in OBF's Advanced Kayaking camp has been formative and truly unforgettable. I would recommend this camp to anyone interested in kayaking. They were both nervous when they arrived but their unease was promptly put to rest. The first day at Olalla Lake was the perfect low key environment for a thorough review of skills and a little fun. The rest of the week's adventures were in Yaquina Bay at the OBF boathouse and did not disappoint. My kids were challenged to stretch beyond their comfort levels by the encouraging and knowledgeable instructor. They learned to navigate a working port safely, kayak in the ocean, assess wind, water and other environmental conditions and even planned a successful paddling trip using these new skills for the entire group. I am certain this experience not only provided a solid understanding of how to be safe on the water and what to do if things do not go as planned but more importantly, the ability to do it with confidence. I went on a boating tour and I had experienced the best service. I intended to come in on a Wednesday for my tour from Bandon Oregon, which is a 2 1/2 hour drive, and I sadly got stuck right behind a horrible accident right outside of reedport (I mean right behind. I got there before the police did) and ended up missing my appointment cause I was stuck in a line of traffic when they closed the road for about 2 hours. luckily I contacted them and they immediately sent me several options and we're super accommodating to get me rescheduled. If I had one critique it would be that they were a little slow to respond, but since they were doing tours it's completely understandable. I got rescheduled to no expense to myself and LOVED the tour. The guides were amazing and went out of their way to point out wildlife, local restaurant, tsunami building, the history and height of the Newport bridge , ect. I would 10/10 recommend this tour. We loved our kayak tour on the bay in Newport! It was easy, we had great instructions, and the view of the bridge was great. It was a gorgeous day - lots of sunshine, perfect temperature - we saw a number of harbor seals, and lots of seabirds - gulls, cormorants, pelicans, and something with bright orange feet - an Auk? The guide, Caden, was really A-one! He was so competent and patient and full of great information along the way. Totally recommend this as a great way to try something different when in Newport. read more
