We took a Dungeness crabbing tour through the charter service on the Spindrift. The captain and mate were both very friendly and we chatted quite a bit with the mate while we were pulling up crab. The charter was supposed to be 90 minutes, but it turned out to be 150 minutes. We pulled up 13 or 14 pots in 60-100' waters. Three of the guests helped deal with the pots. One had a hook and pulled the bouy into the boat. The second pulled in the line for the pot and the third helped the mate get the pot into the boat. Over the course of the 2 1/2 hours, we caught 114 male legal crabs. When we returned, each guest got eight Dungeness crabs. So for us that meant 16 crabs. You had a choice of having them cook the crab for you or take it home and cook it yourself. We chose the second option. It was a beautiful day, but there were 3 to 5 foot swells. So if you have problems with seasickness, take some medication before you go out. It's worth mentioning that on top of the cost of the charter, each guest must buy a crabbing license from the state of Oregon for $37 out of state. read more

Booked an afternoon crab trip with the company. It was advertised as the pots were soaked all night. Well they were not and the result was a less than expected harvest of crab. The captain offered us another trip the next day but not really wanting to make the drive again so we past. The boat and crew were top notch and we all had a blast. Weather was great and no one got sick so that was a plus. I would book again but I would recommend taking the morning trip. read more

We had the privilege to bring 45 farmers from the east coast and wanted to show them Newport and give the experience of crabbing for Dungeness crab. We rented two boats for a 3 hour excursion on 7-26-22 and again with another 45 farmers on 8-2-2022. Had a great time fishing for halibut...and caught one...along with a few crab from the pots we dropped on the way out. Even saw a whale on the way out. Pretty amazing day and would do it again. When we got back, my fish was filleted and I had it vacuumed sealed and frozen at the store. They boiled and cleaned the crabs as well... My wife booked this for me and said multiple times how great everyone she talked to treated her. Jeez, no all that is left is for us to eat the halibut and crab. Second trip with Yaquina and Had a good time on the Miss Raven. Brian the deckhand was knowledgeable, helpful and friendly with the kids on the boat. A disappointment this trip however was the crabbing. Last years trip the pots were dropped the night before, for a good long overnight soak. That trip everyone got their crab limit of 12 each! This trip the pots were dropped right before we fished, for only, at most, a 2-3 hour soak. We only got 2 crab each. Very disappointing. Other boats were bringing in crab limits with an overnight soak. Guess it's live and learn, next time we will request a boat with an overnight soak. read more

Captain Shannon and Robert were outstanding! Seven friends and I booked an all-day tuna trip; but due to the tuna being too far from shore, we converted the tuna trip into a half-day rock fishing trip with crabbing. On the boat we had 16 people fishing with the captain and faithful deckhand (I feel the need to break out in song about a 3-hour cruise - but alas, I can hardly sing). Captain S. got us into fish quickly but the catching soon fell off. The Captain was not afraid to move locations until he got us into a great spot and virtually everyone "limited out". Crabbing was also splendid with everyone on the boat catching his/her limit. Once docked a separate outfit cooked and cleaned the crab for only $1 per crab and cleaned and filleted the fish for a very reasonable rate. All in all it was a great day and well deserving of 5 stars. As a side, remember to take precautions for seasickness and bring cash for the fillet service and to tip you captain and deckhand! read more

Had an awesome 1/2 day trip with Captain Jack and Ann. We did the bottom and crab trip and went out on the Crackerjack. My wife was getting over the flu so she didn't get to do much fishing but she was jazzed to see everyone having a great time. There was a little boy (maybe 9) who was slaying it. My wife Ali got a kick out of his little voice hollering "Fish On." We got the safety briefing and then Ann (deck hand) finished prepping the 16 crab pots and then we were off. Once outside the protection of the jetty, the water was churning up 8-125 foot rollers and people started to turn green, my wife included. She is such a trooper. I'm a fortunate man. The water temp dropped quite significantly which had Capt Jack chasing the school of fish. It was an absolutely gorgeous day and we had the pleasure of meeting some good people. When all is said and done I caught 14 Fish with 5 that were keepers. I had a great day and will definitely go for another fishing charter with this outfit. Capt Jack is a true character and is quite engaging with all the fishermen and offered tips to increase likelihood of boating more fish. Ann was the Deckhand and she has a Super chill vibe about her but is super knowable in her craft. Could be because she is studying oceanography at Humboldt. After being skunked on my last 2 fishing trips in California, I am very pleased with my trip on the Gracie K. Capt. Shannon and the mate, Cole, were courteous and helpful the entire trip. They allowed us to do just enough work to allow us to say WE caught the fish. We caught our limit early and went back ahead of the weather. Also got 5 huge crab. When we docked there was a independent lady that cleaned and filleted all our fish and cooked and cleaned all the crab. She asked for 11 bucks and I gave her 20. That's a deal to not have to deal with that mess. I've been on enough to bad fishing trips to know a good company when I see it. This is a well run outfit. My wife and I went out yesterday(7/29/21) on a half day, near shore rockfish and ling cod fishing trip. We had an absolute blast! Captain Shannon and Deck Hand Justin did a great job putting us on the fish. My wife and I both got our limits of rockfish and crab. Can't wait until we can go again! We went in the middle of August as a last minute trip before school started. Our youngest was 7 and the oldest 11. Just make sure to take the motion sickness medicine first! We all did but the 7 year old. He spent a fair amount of time throwing up. Also, dress warm. This is by far the best ocean fishing charter I have been on; the Cracker Jack is a good solid boat with lots of room for the 7 fishermen on our trip. Captain Jack has the rare mix of experience, skills and a sense of humor, which I really enjoyed. Deckhand Ann was awesome, keeping everyone baited, and rigged in what is clearly a tough job; slinging crab pots and entertaining fishermen isn't as easy as she makes it look. We all got our limits of rock fish, and I would suggest including the crabbing option, as the people who did on our trip shared in lots of big Dungeness crabs. This was a great experience for my dad and I. I'm 28 years old and even for someone who is 16-18 this would be a great experience. I think any younger than that, reeling in the rods might be a little tough. The only thing that keeps me from giving it a 5 star is the fact that only 1 of 8 people caught a halibut and the prior 2 days 0 people caught halibut. I totally understand not being able to predict the waters, but I mean that's what we're paying for so if it's apparent no one is catching them, I might be giving out some refunds partially or something to accommodate.. read more

I love fishing with these guys. When I moved to the area I tried every charter company (not every boat) and I settled on YBC as my go to charter company. I have gone out with Capt. Jack 8 or 9 times and Capt. Shannon 3 or 4 times. Both of them will put you on fish. The deckhands they hire are always hard working and worthy of a good tip (just mentioning that as many people forget to tip them and that is the majority of their pay). If you are new to fishing and need a lot of hand holding I would suggest one of the cattle barges with lots of deckhands. If you need a ride to the fish and know how to get your jig/herring in the strike zone book a trip with YBC. read more
