There are no real cart paths and when you're driving the object of the game and not golf, is to try not to get stuck in the mud with your power cart. I don't think they've mowed anything in a month. You lose your ball so easily. The new owners don't care about the course at all. They don't upgrade any of their equipment from what I hear. They charge as much as Chehalem golf course in Newberg and that course is immaculate. 27 bucks for 9 holes and a cart. Should be playing us to play that pathetic 9 holes. The greens are Swiss cheese and the worst I've ever seen. The driving range is closed due to the fact management doesn't want to keep it up. There needs to be some new owners that know how to take care of a golf course and actually care. We had to call the front desk to get another power cart to be able to get up the hill after playing the ninth because the battery died. Not big of a deal, but there was also two other groups in front of us that their cart died also. It was laughable. Don't waste your time. The worst!!!

Santiam is a fairly straightforward golf course. You won't find stunning vistas, challenging hole…read morelayouts or other features associated with top courses. What you will find is a very well-maintained public track that offers good golf for a low price. - Layout is a lot of back and forth. Many holes seem to resemble one another. Still, the holes are very playable and will test your skills. - Fairways. It was wet when I played and it had been raining but the fairways maintained their condition with good course drainage. Still a lot of mud on the ball so we played lift, clean and replace. - Greens are in great shape. There aren't a lot of ridiculous contours, just reasonable slopes that require a fair amount of green reading skills. The fringes are in good shape, too. - Bunkers. I only visited one but it played well even with the moisture. The course does not have an excessive number of traps. - Hazards. Trees are you main concern (and there are some magnificent specimens on the course) but watch out for hidden water. It's not on many holes but what is there is a bit sneaky. Rough is not very rough. - Carts are no frills electric. Mine worked fine. - Practice facilities are limited. Santiam has a decent practice green but a very small driving range. No short game area. Santiam's prices are very reasonable. Low even. The pro shop is small but if you need something, they might have it. There's a nice cafe/grill in the building as well.

You may feel like a mountain goat after your round. Friendly and approachable. The owner is a former Progress Downs Pro from Beaverton. I didn't know him, but recognized the name. He was busy, shop and amenities were closed for COVID. They did offer beers and snacks though, for purchase. There's one spot, with a bit of a blind shot and you gotta ring a bell to let the group behind you - "okay to tee off" Look up and you may see some skydivers descending.
