I've always been going to the hemming place close to our first house, which is not that convenient but it was tried and tested and the price is reasonable. However, I've been wanting to find one closer with reasonable price as well. This was recommended by my brother and boy, are their price good! We came on a Saturday and there was a short line but if you already have yours marked, it goes fast. And tip: it is cheaper when you already marked where you want it cut. It is $8 vs $12 if they will have to measure you. Between me and my daughter, we had about maybe 15 pants to be hemmed. But we got them all the following day in the morning! I tried them on and they did a good job. I have to say too that the place looks like a high end boutique. Something I won't expect for the price they charge! This was my first time going to Original Hems in Santa Ana. My coworker recommended them highly and I was looking forward to finding a local tailor. Unfortunately, it was a very disappointing experience. I brought in two pairs of pants to be hemmed and even paid extra for them to measure the pants for me. I brought the shoes I wear with each and assumed that they would ensure a proper and professional fit. Instead, the result was extremely careless. When I got my pants back, they had been cut too short, which completely ruined the fit. On top of that, the fabric that was cut wasn't even properly tucked or finished. For the knit pants, there were parts where the hem wasn't even attached. The hemming looks rushed and sloppy, like very little care or attention to detail went into the work. What makes this even more frustrating is that I paid extra for their measuring service expecting a better outcome. If the pants were going to be cut too short and poorly finished, there was really no point in paying for that service at all. Just mark it at home. I trusted them with my clothing and expected basic tailoring standards, but the quality of the work fell far below what any customer should receive. At this point, I honestly feel like I could have done a better job hemming them myself at. Based on this experience, I can't recommend this place. read more

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. I came in today with my husband to get a dress and jeans altered, and right from the start the experience was unpleasant. One of the women working there immediately gave us a rude glare, as if we had done something wrong, while the other simply told us to "go upstairs" with no further explanation or instruction. We went upstairs and waited for about 20 minutes. When one of the employees finally came up, she asked if we (myself and another customer) had tried our clothes on yet. When we said no (because, again, we were never told to) she rolled her eyes, told us to try them on, and then stomped back downstairs saying she was busy and didn't have time. I'm not expecting over-the-top service, but basic courtesy and clear communication should be the bare minimum, especially for customers who are about to spend money at your business. TL;DR -- They ruined my dress, were rude to my mother, and refused to give a refund. Take your business anywhere else. I took my formal dress to this location in order to fix the length. The woman, Stephanie, who helped with my try on and measurements is incredibly kind and understanding. However, their work and owner are terrible. Their alterations left the bottom of my dress uneven. I even noticed the chalk marks that were made by the associate when measuring were still on the dress. They did lazy and horrific work. Originally, the dress was all one length at the bottom. Their awful alteration caused the back to drag on the floor behind me. Additionally, this dress is brand new with the original tags and somehow they managed to get a stain on it. We took it back and the kind lady who helped me with my measurements asked the workers to fix it within the hour. I came back to try it on and their stitching was sloppy, uneven, and the threading was hanging off. They did not even take the time to trim the excess threading. Also, some threading fragments fell off during my try on. There truly is no other way to describe what they did other than that they ruined the my dress for an important and special occasion. My mother spoke to the manager, Eric, on the phone to express what had happened. He invited her to come into the shop. I was unable to go with her, but she drove from the IE to OC. He was incredibly unprofessional, rude, and patronizing to my mother. He told her she should have stayed in her area. He said that she essentially was a fool for going there thinking he would refund her, when he was the one that told her to go to see him. He only offered to have it re-done, but would not offer a discount or a full refund. At this point, I did not trust them any further with my dress. What is the point of giving them another attempt at ruining my dress? My dress looks like it was dragged on the floor and a cat had scratched at the seams. DO NOT COME HERE! Go elsewhere because there is no guarantee you will be satisfied with your garment and there is no way they will refund you if they ruin your piece. They do awful work and have a worse business owner. I cannot express how much they do not care about your piece. Go literally anywhere else. read more

I had a disappointing experience with Original Hems. I brought in tailored pants for hemming, but they were altered to the wrong length. When I returned the next day to have the mistake corrected, I was told they could fix it but only if I paid an additional fee. Since I needed the pants completed, I reluctantly paid the extra charge, hoping they would deliver the same quality work I had received from them in the past. Unfortunately, that was not the case. The revised hem was noticeably different from the original and lacked the quality and appearance I expected. While I would not say the pants were ruined, they certainly do not look as good as they did before the alterations. Between the original mistake, the requirement to pay extra to correct it, and the poor quality of the final result, I left feeling disappointed. I do not believe this is good customer service or a fair way to handle an error or your customers. Based on this experience, I will not be returning. read more

My daughter recently had a beautiful, brand new, formal gown hemmed here. The hem measurements were taken by them while she was wearing the same shoes which she planned to wear with the dress. To her great disappointment, the hem she received came out considerably uneven and was cut WAY too short on the sides. The gown is completely ruined! After finally reaching the owner, Eric (who had mysteriously disappeared and would not return my calls), he refused to take any responsibility and tried to blame it on my daughter miscommunicating with a third party seamstress. What a joke! Avoid this place at all costs as well as the other tailoring places owned by this same guy. The lofty claims which they make on their website are false.
