Mar 12, I woke with a toothache. The tooth was under my bridge. Instant panic at the bill…read more I walked into Sand Mine with dread as I had the same issue last year at a different dentist office and they wanted $7500-$10,000 to remove the bridge, give me a root canal and leave me toothless for 6 weeks for the new bridge. I opted for the antibiotic, the pain went away and I dodged a bullet. But now the infection/absess was back. Dr. Nirh came in with a big smile, talked calmly, showed me my x-rays and exactly what was going on. Basically, the infection lays dormant and will continue to return if not treated properly. Simply, I need a root canal which can be performed through the bridge with a small hole. Not ripping/sawing/breaking the bridge off as I was told at the other dentist office. I do have to have this part done with a specialist right down the street next week, but what a relief! I was prescriped Ibuprofen and Amoxicillian and today feel some pain relief. My cost yesterday: $0 for the xrays (covered by insuarnce) and my co-pay for the refilling of the "hole" after the procedure will be $145. I'm not sure what the root canal will cost, but I'm sure not $10,000. The staff were great, Dr Nirh was calming and layed back and I would highly recommmend this dental office! I am 62 years old. Excellent experience!!!

Disappointed and Overcharged - Get a Second Opinion Before Coming Here…read more I visited Smile Design Dentistry expecting a standard preventative cleaning, but was told I needed a "semi-deep cleaning" because my teeth supposedly didn't qualify for a regular cleaning. They never explained whether my insurance would cover it and proceeded with an X-ray exam without my proper consent. To clarify: I do not have early signs of gum disease (gingivitis), no inflamed gums, and no deep pockets. Semi-deep cleanings are typically recommended for patients with 4mm pockets and bleeding--none of which apply to me. I later visited another reputable dental office in Dr. Phillips, where my gums were measured and confirmed to be within healthy range. They assured me a regular cleaning was all I needed. It's now clear to me that this office was trying to upcharge for unnecessary treatment. What's even more concerning is the condition of their tools--they appeared worn out and poorly maintained, which is unacceptable in any healthcare setting. You may walk in with a smile, but after being misled and overcharged, you likely won't leave with one. Be cautious and get a second opinion before agreeing to any treatment here.

Things changed after I was given a treatment plan in 2025. I had questions about recommended work and was told to email the owner/Doctor directly. I sent a detailed email but never received a response. At later visits, I continued to be pressured to proceed with the treatment plan even after declining. During one visit, the office manager even asked if I knew what a cavity was, which I found dismissive and insulting. I also noticed they wanted me to come in more frequently than my husband because I had older fillings they wanted to monitor. My previous dentist in New York never required extra visits for this, so I declined and kept my regular six-month schedule. The final straw came in 2026 when I went in for a routine cleaning. I explained I was having another doctor keep up with my fillings, I only wanted a cleaning. Instead, I was told by Amy that I had to get new X-rays first because the doctor could supposedly lose her license otherwise (which is a lie). When I questioned that explanation, I was then told it was because the doctor was new and needed updated X-rays. My previous X-rays were only about a year old, so this didn't make sense to me. Overall, the practice left me feeling like insurance billing and selling additional treatment had become a higher priority than patient care. Every visit involved pressure to accept treatment or orthodontic services, even after repeated refusals. After years of positive experiences with multiple dentists in New York, this was the first office where I felt I couldn't receive a simple cleaning without being pressured into additional procedures. She immediately asked if I was ok and if she needed to fit me in sooner than requested. The care was apparent and appreciated. Went to the practice today and the service was fantastic. Amy was just as kind in person on the intake. Mal was with me for X-rays and prep and she was out of this world. So caring and personable. She made the entire visit so comfortable. Then there's Dr Kevin. This guy is top tier. He came in, introduced himself, asked me about me and how I was feeling, spent as much time as I needed explaining what needed to happen, asked if I had any other questions, and took care of the tooth, filling, and everything. And while doing the debriding and filling he checked in to ensure I was still comfortable. I have a new dentist!!!

Not only was I never notified by the office that I would now be out of network - but they ignored my request for information for 6 weeks. When I called back two days before my cleaning - turns out my "free" cleaning will now be around $300. So no - I will find an in network dentist - but thanks for delaying my cleaning probably ~3 months it will take to get in someplace new.

Not only that but with my daughter spacers for braces they did it there then suggested me to a ortho to remove some teeth. dentist never recalled what step we were in after he told me a different treatment plan each time for length. believe with my daughter nought and teeth he should have sent me to a specialist from the beginning. instead of wasted time and amount of money I spent.
