Picture a lovely summer night when the park is filled with families sitting on blankets, dancing, balloons, after a visit to the nearby Candy Manor and a live band playing for 90 minutes. I've been coming to Chatham since I was a baby and the BEST thing about this particular park is the free band concerts that are held here. According to the Chatham Band website, they just finished up their 85th year of performing concerts. The bandstand is named after Whitney "Whit" Tileston, who was one of the popular band leaders and the one I remember the most from my childhood. Whit passed away back in 1995, so it's nice to see this memorial to him! There is a small parking lot next to the bandstand, by the Impudent Oyster, but that will likely be filled when in season. If you don't mind a walk, I recommend parking behind Ben Franklin or by Yankee Ingenuity. The park is kind of quiet most of the year, but it's a nice place to take a break when you are strolling through this quaint New England town. There are some benches spread throughout the park. Thankfully, the town has added a building adjacent to the park with public restroom facilities.

We travelled from far west USA to Cape Cod watch great baseball and watch up and coming (by…read moreinvitation only) baseball players for 5 days. The games are in the evenings as the players train or are in/conduct clinics during the day. This is baseball at its finest--games played nightly at 4-5 locations locally (longest was about 40 minutes away) at well-maintained high school fields. Donations are encouraged, otherwise games and parking are free. We were there during the draft, and as they introduced players (who came from all over the USA) they reported what major league team had drafted the player. Very fun, up close and relaxing. There are the usual hot dogs and snacks, it is extremely casual; most sites have bleachers but bring you own chair is just fine. Very family oriented, lots of happy kids. There is a surprising number of things to do during the day, including a white sand beach, water park, pirate museum, mini golf, and day trips to Plymouth or Hyannis, some very nice local restaurants (mostly casual dining) and plenty of seafood. This is a casual adventure, no stuffy restaurants or locales. Lots of local resorts, but choose carefully. If you don't have kids, most hotels are oriented to kids and kid activities and feel a bit like east coast summer camps. There are a couple chains, like the Hampton Inn and Suites in Yarmouth that provide an option.

There are bleachers, however they tend to fill up quickly so I suggest bringing a lawn chair. There's also a concession stand and they sell all sorts of merch during the game. There are also restrooms on site. We got there kinda late but were able to find seats in the bleachers. I suggest going early as games tend to get packed.

The interns who run it are all college students from around the country and they do a hell of a job. They are all so nice. I even met someone who goes to University of Miami where I went, awesome. They have ballpark food like hotdogs, hamburgers, peanuts, pretzels, etc. all reasonable priced. Kids are everywhere running around, great family time. Bring your chair or sit in bleechers. There are about 10 teams all over the Cape. The redsox are the closest team to me, so I went to the Yarmouth highschool and they played Wareham. Great fun.

Going back to my infant days and even my family's youth days is Newcomb Hollow Ocean Beach. This is…read moreone of our favorite places to visit, and boy, it's amazing here. First off, you do need a beach sticker provided by the town of Wellfleet. However, in the nighttime, it does not matter. There is a huge parking lot for enough spaces, and most likely you will find a spot during the daytime. A bathroom is provided in the lot in the center. There's even an ice cream truck featuring hot dogs and water that's parked toward the ocean. For the fun, there is a big hill to climb down either way (left or right) that leads down to the beach and sands. Normally, you'll find a lot of people with their blankets and sometimes looking for a spot can be very time-consuming. There are a couple of lifeguards here at Newcomb, but only patrol a small area, so please be careful in the water. Bonfires are allowed but require a permit in the same place where a beach sticker is picked up. Getting here to Newcomb is very easy as it is located at the end of Ocean View Drive. If we enjoy it here, someone else will too!

Why Marconi Beach? Honestly, why the hell not?…read more During a very brief day trip to the Cape, we were looking to see a particular lighthouse (Nauset) and to see some big ass coastal bluffs which after twenty seconds of research made Marconi an easy choice. Below is a bit of NPS info on what to expect when visiting and a smidge about the history of the area. www.nps.gov/caco/planyourvisit/marconi-beach.htm www.nps.gov/places/marconi-beach.htm A nice winding drive in through the pine barrens which opens up to a massive parking lot. It truly must be a hell scape in season, but when you're visiting in early April and it's in the low 40s with a barking wind, even on a Saturday, there were only four other cars. We got the views we were looking for and poached a few shells/rocks for some mementos. While the visit was brief (25ish minutes - too crazy cold to make it any longer) it is indeed beautiful here and worth making a visit. (It's also worth mentioning the Captain Obvious that in the offseason you are able to avoid those pesky NPS entrance fees but if you need to use the loo, it ain't happening here since all of that is closed and of course there are no lifeguards, so watch out for Jaws.)
