But, that has made me forget that smaller theaters are out there like this one. So when I came here to see Inside Out with my boyfriend's family, I was pleasantly surprised and reminded of why sometimes bigger isn't always better. First and foremost, this is a very small theater. From what I could tell, there was one screen and only a handful of rows in the small screening room. That being said, the theater looked like it was recently renovated, it was very clean, and there was plenty of legroom. The screen itself is pretty small but since the space is smaller, you are sitting closer which partially makes up for it. The audio in the theater was surprisingly good however, far exceeding many other small theaters I have visited in the past. All in all, the movie experience was pretty good. We saw Inside Out in 3D which probably would have benefited from a larger screen, but I'm not expecting an IMAX theater to be open in Hunter. One change from large city theaters that I really did enjoy was how comparatively cheap tickets were here. An adult ticket runs only $9 while 3D is $11. That kicks butt compared to the $15-$17 I've paid before for non-3D around in the Washington DC area. That plus the fact that the movie selection was surprisingly decent only added to the pleasant surprise factor. Major films like Terminator and Jurassic World were also playing. The concessions were also pretty good - popcorn, candy, ice cream, etc. but also equally cheaper than I'm used to. Overall, I had a great experience.

(OK, I guess theater, since they're also set up for live events, the stage looks super fun). While the original place has clearly been chopped up a bit, as these things have happened over the years, to make multiple screens, the smaller main theater retains much of its original charm. The sound was among the best I've ever heard -- forget the mall theaters with their cookie cutter speaker systems, this place feels like the audio has actually been tuned to the space. Not too loud but utterly clear and encompassing. Throw in interesting programs and very, very reasonable concession prices on top of super friendly staff, even though the Orpheum is quite a haul for us, we are definitely returning, especially for the special festival programming. Now I want to buy some merch so I can spread the word.

If everything was awesome just give it a 5. Those 4s add up and I feel like people that use Yelp are always looking for the great reviews. You get a 5 and 4 from two people that love something. It was a Thursday so maybe things weren't as busy as normal but we showed up a little early and the back biergarten was open so we got some drinks as it was a nice spring afternoon. The bartender was very friendly and when we attempted to bring our drinks around front she let us know that we had to finish them first. The Venue itself reminded me a bit of the nearby Levon Helm studios in that it's an open space with a balcony overlooking everything and seating and standing room on the base floor. One thing I loved about this show is the sound was great. We sat stage left but the PA was subtly piping the DJ and guitar parts from stage right. It wasn't a huge crowd but people were having a good time with some standing room in front of the bar dancing etc. The bartenders were super attentive and responsive during the performance. I have been to Bearsville, Levon Helm and now Colony and I really feel lucky to have such intimate performance spaces somewhat locally. All of the staff were super friendly. Will be back for sure!

Only about 50 people who got there at the opening had a chance to get a seat. Others like us lucked out and had to figure out how to eat without a table .
