What an adorable theatre in Chatham! We just watched the Oscar nominated shorts here on Saturday and it was delightful! Adult tickets are $11 and senior and members get a discount. They check for IDs and a vaccination cards. Masks must be worn at all times except when seated. They have limited the capacity to less than 50% and everyone is seated far away (6 ft plus!) from each other. They also have a single restroom and signs from back in the day! In a small town they offer many international films not shown everywhere. We really appreciated the atmosphere and the friendly staff. They only show one film at a time which is also lovely and never fully crowded. They also host plays here too! The popcorn, candy and snacks are also very affordable. I wish more theatres like these existed in New York City and scattered throughout the US! Definitely support this local community theatre they will greet you at the front door and you will feel like a VIP guest! Will definitely be back! read more

The Crandell is one of my favorite places in the area. I look forward to catching a movie at the Crandell whenever I'm upstate wth family or friends, and now that Chatham Brewing is open late we just have to cross the street to discuss the movie over a pint! Tickets are cheap, seating is plentiful, the theater is resplendently old school, and the popcorn is amazing. They use real butter instead of that artificially flavored stuff most cinemas use, and it just tastes the way popcorn should! A large bag is $6 and is more than enough for 3 people to munch on. My family has been seeing movies at the Crandell for close to 20 years, and were worried that the transition from a family business to a nonprofit wouldn't work out. It seems to still attract a decent crowd (the balcony seating was open for a recent Saturday evening show), and there are still plenty of local businesses advertising on the slideshow before previews start. Awesome small theatre. Most of the staff was extremely pleasant except for the Manager by the name of Pam or Peg (I cannot remember). She was extremely rude / belittling and also smelled like a walking ash tray. read more

This theatre was decent and would return again. It's a bit on the smaller side but decent place to see a flick. The theatre itself was clean and staff was kind and helpful. The seats were a bit uncomfortable but doable maybe need to update the cushioning. read more

What a total gem! I went here for the first time last week to check out a film festival in Chatham. It's a beautiful old vintage theater, so unlike all of those terrible modern, superfancy multiplexes. The Crandell oozes old-fashioned charm and makes you feel like you've stepped back into the past. So do the prices in fact, as movies typically cost $4 for adults and $3 for kids. The concession stand is also affordable - we paid $2.50 for a large popcorn with what tasted like real butter. Seats are comfy and the interior is gorgeous. There's even still an orchestra pit with a piano/organ. As previously mentioned, yes, there's only one screen but with a place as great as this, who cares? The local film club is currently in the process of purchasing this theater and they intend to continue regular film showings as well as adding more specialty events. If I lived closer, I'd definitely come here a lot. read more

This is one of the last things today that a family of four can afford to do together without going broke. The theater is charming, the people are friendly. The movie is dirt cheap and you can actually afford to buy snacks there (and don't have to sneak any in). I have never had a bad experience and feel lucky to have such a great place to go so nearby! read more

I come here all the time. You can't beat the prices! Staff is always very friendly. What I love the most is that not only do they show the latest blockbusters but also movies that the big chains don't normally play- independent movies, foreign, documentaries, etc. Highly recommended :) read more

Great small town theatre, lots of character. Tickets used to be a real bargain at $5.00,and if you book a 10-ticket book, tickets were only $4.00 each. Once the elitist "Chatham Film Club" took over, prices rose 50% to $7.50 per ticket. If you want a $1.00 discount, you have to join their club for $40.00 a year. Not everyone wants to see their depressing uber liberal documentaries during the Chatham Film Festival. I know they've made upgrades, but it would have been nice to offer the local residents the same seat prices as their members. read more

When we were moving to the area, we picked Chatham, and a big part of that was because of the Crandell. A beautiful old theater with good movies and snacks, cheap, and my family can walk to it. I can't think of a way to improve this scenario. read more

Every kid who has gone through Chatham Central School knows exactly how fun a Friday or Saturday night at the Crandell is. It's a great place to see a new movie and it's cheap! They recently did renovations so they can show 3D movies now! The snacks are cheap so don't even worry about sneaking any in because guess what?! It actually will NOT cost you an arm and a leg for popcorn!!! This movie theatre will be one of my favorite memories of growing up in Chatham, NY. Would recommend to absolutely anyone. I've been coming to this theater for as long as I can remember and I've always loved it. Since Chatham Film Club took over ownership it has only gotten better. I recently rented the theater for a private screening of my husband's favorite movie for his birthday and I couldn't have asked for more. The staff was friendly and accommodating and everything was perfect. I only hope the theater continues to provide low cost Hollywood films and eclectic local films for many years to come. read more

We spend a lot of time in Columbia County, we always go to " Film Columbia" at the Crandell, a 4 day Film festival that really kicks, Foreign Movies as well as off the beaten track independent, as well as major movies. Its our favorite time a Year to be there usually last week of October, during leaf peeping season. read more

This is a great place to see movies. It was rescued by the Chatham Film Club after the previous owner died suddenly (rest in peace Tony). Improvements are being made to infrastructure, but it's a classic '20s style movie house. Two can go and have popcorn for what you'd pay for on admission at the urban places. It's great! The only bad part is that they took out the old soda machine and replaced it with a goofy, chic vitamin water dispenser. More PC, I guess. But don't let the pretentious Film Club scare you away. I have not been there since it got taken over but have always loved the Crandell. I will never forget one time I went and had a really bad cough and lo and behold, they had Ricola cough drops at the concession stand!! Amazing!!! So glad it is still open. read more
