As for Yuri himself: I think he's brilliant. I told my wedding party beforehand that he was a man of very few words, but honestly the quality of his work speaks for itself. His style is definitely more artistic and photojournalistic, so there will be a lot of candids and not a lot of direction or posing -- I get that that's not for everyone, but it made for such a natural experience during both our engagement and wedding photos, which I think were all captured beautifully. During the actual wedding day, I appreciated Yuri's ability to fade into the background and act as sort of a ninja, because that allowed me to focus on having fun and enjoying the moment while he captured ALL of the little and big moments for us. If you're looking for a chatty entertainer, he's not that. Yuri is a gentle, reticent giant (he even admitted to us during our wedding that once he starts shooting with his cameras, his verbal skills go out the window) with an incredible artist's eye, and he's very efficient (like he will not take very much time on formal portraits--even with huge family on both sides, we were done pretty quickly, thank goodness). Everyone was seriously impressed. He even got us a sneak peek a few days after the wedding which was enough (though still difficult because I was eagerly anticipating all the shots) until ~7 weeks later, when he delivered amazing photos in an online gallery, which I shared with my friends and family, as well as the beautiful wooden box that contained a USB of all our photos as well as physical prints, which I've already hung up and put in frames all around our house. I love seeing our happy faces all over the place, and I really appreciated that he was not actually in our faces during the actual day of. He was direct with my husband, though, on the day of the wedding when we were doing couple portraits: he told us that my husband looked unnatural and stiff. He recommended that he take a shot of tequila, lol. So he did, and we continued to take beautiful pictures... including my profile picture. Long story long: I am full of awe and respect for Yuri and his process (he's a true artist). I also acknowledge that that strong and silent type sans posing instructions isn't for everyone... but I think his pictures are. Beauty and happiness are universal, after all. The engagement session was fun, and is something we both recommend. It gave us an opportunity to get comfortable with Yuri and how he works, which was invaluable on the wedding day. Both my wife and I have relatively large extended families, but we managed to get through all the must-have family photos in the limited time we had prior to the ceremony as well as the wedding party photos afterwards. Outside of the must-have, posed photos, Yuri was out-of-sight and out-of-mind, capturing beautiful photos of the venue and décor and candid photos that our friends and family raved about. For the wedding, we also opted for the Simple Booth with Yuri, which is another option we highly recommend. All our guests absolutely loved using the photobooth--the photos aren't just stills, but are (very) short GIFs--and we loved the simplicity of the booth, since it was easy to access and didn't take a lot of space on the dance floor.
