Ortega's has been in the carefree center for as long as we have lived here. That's 20 years now and I know they've been there longer than that. They have nice turquoise, hats, crosses, jewelry, clothing, and many other things you might want to take home as souvenirs. Staff are very helpful. I got a new straw hat as a gift for a friend. Waited patiently for cashier to finish her transaction with the customer before me. Once that customer left store I asked if I could get help with an item behind the counter. I was ignored. I proceeded to walk towards her saying excuse me but she continued to ignore me. I finally after 4 attempts to get her attention. In a very rude tone I'll be right with you. Not looking up from her phone. We proceeded to walk out and she tells me I was taking a picture to get a price. I told her I was a customer wanting to purchase and she told me " you know what just get out" Wow! I was already leaving. Nope never going back. Cute little shop that's seriously worth the stop. Carefree, Arizona has a touristy eclectic feel to it and Ortega's fits in perfectly. Located on the corner Ho Hum Drive and Easy Street there's plenty of parking out front. A sign on the door kindly reminds patrons of the current state pandemic regulations, which as of this review are face masks and a request for 6 ft distancing. The inside of the store is packed with a variety of items. While the vast majority of items are unique pieces of jewelry there's other items as well such as belt buckles and watches. All the pieces feel uniquely Arizona with beautiful turquoise and silver pieces. The customer service is wonderful - the lady who helped me was very patient and informative. I came to Carefree to bring a friend who had never been because I love this town. First place we walked into and the woman behind the counter was talking politics with the man working there. I was shocked she continued to go on and on about it. I commented and so did another person in the store and she continued. This was terrible business practice and I would fire her. I was disgusting and so was other people in the store as we discussed it outside as we a left and none of us purchased anything because of her mouth. I will not come back or recommend this place ever. read more

Ortega's is family run, and we met two of the brothers when we visited this past week. Souvenirs were to be found, as well as some beautiful authentic Native American jewelry and crafts. Some of the items there were not NA, but were still adorable and kitschy, so make sure you check the "made from" labels. They have a large amount of NA turquoise and silver jewelry, as well as some copper jewelry and art. Quite a bit of woven mats, rugs, baskets, and art, as well as some wood crafts and unique Arizona "touristy" gifts. read more

I rarely feel compelled to write a review but this is one of those places that deserves recognition for their business. I've been shopping at this store for about five years and at this point, will exclusively shop here for all my turquoise jewelry. The customer service you get here is above and beyond. While there normally is no more than two people working, they make sure to help all customers while still maintaining an interpersonal shopping experience. They also quickly and at a very affordable price, helped me to replace a missing stone on a squash blossom. In addition to the phenomenal customer service, the quality of the jewelry is well made and at a reasonable price considering the labor and materials that the artist puts into each piece of jewelry.
