Amazing Rock Shop run by a real archeologist (cooler than Indiana Jones!) in business 50 years says a lot. Excellent selection of any rocks you could be searching for, including fossils and geodes plus gorgeous jewelry and tumbled rocks for the kiddos. The fair prices shocked me! Writing my first ever Yelp review to share a wonderful experience I had with this lovely shop. Around three years ago, my family visited Desert Treasures while visiting my brother in Scottsdale from LA, and my brother gifted me with a beautiful carnelian beaded necklace that caught my eye. It became one of my favorite jewelry pieces, something I wore often when I wanted to feel grounded and courageous. This past January, my family lost our home in the LA Wildfires--it was deemed a "total loss," nothing at all salvageable. In all the grief and sadness, I kept thinking of my favorite carnelian necklace, how much it had meant to me, and how I could use that feeling of courage again. I decided to take a long shot and called up Desert Treasures, in the hopes they might have something similar to replace it. Not only did the owner answer my call, she responded with kindness and compassion, texting my several pictures of carnelian necklaces until I found one that most closely matched the one I lost. My brother was able to pick it up later that day, and less than a week later he drove out to LA to deliver love, support, and my new necklace. I wear the new necklace now several times a week, and not only does this new one make me feel brave and bold, it also reminds me of the beautiful kindness of strangers. This isn't a cheap trinket shop, but you can find affordable gifts that represent the southwest. They've been in business for decades too. read more

Patty was so sweet she was kind of a gem herself. She gave us a lot of information about the area and told us that this particular shop has been in business family on for 45 years. We got a couple small things it would be able to easily pack but I WOULD definitely recommend going there to check it out. read more

Disappointed in the owners behaviour towards us. We did pick up a few rocks to take home but the owner actually rolled her eyes in front of us in response to my 4 year asking too many questions. I left disappointed in her behaviour rather than excited about the rocks I found their. It put a damper in our "Carefree" experience. read more

I drove thirty minutes to my favorite crystal store to hunt for some good findings, like I always do, but this time I don't think I will be back. For a crystal store, you would think the experience would be relaxing and centering, however I felt judged, pressed to buy something, and did not like the energy the owner was giving off. If I could give a zero based on the negative energy from the person behind the counter I would. They require a mask even though we said we are vacinnated. Nicely. The response "I don't care". We left. There were no other customers in the shop. She killed my vibe and brought me down. No way would I spend my money here and I am positive the stones all carry a negative energy because of her. So....last Sunday I failed as a mother when I accidentally vacuumed up my 3 year old daughters newest treasure that she got when we were up in Pine... It was a beautiful pink agate. The little slice of rock that she looks at every.damn.day. I immediately start sweating, and try to figure out where I am going to find a gem store open on a Sunday...as I was in total toddler tantrum territory. The ice was thin people, THIN! Enter Desert Treasures and a 30 minute drive up to the town of Carefree. The shop has all kinds of rad little treasures with price points for all budgets. We scored an even larger pink agate then she had before, and then....the sweet little glass deer. FML, why did I let her get a little glass baby deer??!?! Well, when you vacuum up your kids coveted agate, you throw all the treasures at them to right your wrong doing. So when she looked at me with her big blue eyes and said "Mommy may I please have a baby deer to?" And she used perfect manners, then you just buy that shit. Fast forward to 3 hours later, we are at Home Depot. She wants to bring in the baby deer. I tell her she has to be so careful because her baby deer is made out of glass. Not FIVE MINUTES into our trip she drops that deer on the floor, his back legs snap, but are hanging on by a little bit of leftover glue on the back from where it was glued to the paper backing, other then that, he is in ok condition...immediately her soul is crushed, she is so beside herself that she drops the deer AGAIN and this time the back legs shoot off in one direction, the front leg goes in another and the heads spins off and was never to be found again...trust...I looked, crawling around in a skirt on the floor at home depot. F.M.L. At any rate....we will be making another drive up to Desert Treasures. read more

This was a wonderful gemstone store. They had a great variety of crystals and rocks, both in types and sizes. Reasonably priced and all genuine stones, many even listed its origin which I loved. They also had a great selection of gemstone jewelry including genuine turquoise. The lady in the shop (the owner) was friendly, attentive and helpful but not pushy or overbearing. Let me shop around, but was there if I had any questions. She says it's been a family business for 45 years if I remember correctly, which makes me want to support this wonderful shop even more. If you're in or near the Carefree area, make sure to stop by you won't be disappointed. I will definitely be back! read more

A neat gem in Carefree! They have everything from rocks and minerals to Carefree T-shirts and hats. I enjoy browsing in this store as I always find something one-of-a-kind. I buy "coyote poop" (chocolates) for my nephews whenever I visit. They still think it's hysterical. The unique jewelry is an even bigger hit for gifts for family of all occasions. read more

Great rock shop When I was in the area on vacation I thought I should go here based on other reviews. I am glad I did. The rocks were reasonably priced. They have a good selection of rocks filling up a part of the store (the rest is a gift shop). I bought many good specimens from here. It is close to good hiking too. read more

Very nice store - great for the rock hounds out there - good combination of jewelry and petrified wood, rocks, even some Local Meteorites and other gift items. Great place to take yourself and out of town visitors. Very Arizona and Very Carefree. I bought a beautiful Moonstone Pendant and had lots of sizes to choose from. Best shop in Carefree! They have incredible rocks and a wide selection of jewelry. I bought many large pieces for my home that I've seen in magazines. They were not expensive and have a big selection. Also a great place to buy gifts. My sons like to go there too which is saying a lot since they don't like to shop. read more
