This place is an orthopedic factory. You're not a patient, just a number. You can never reach anyone. My doctor didn't call me back for 2 days despite my being a pregnant patient in pain. I was told a scheduler would call me- never happened. When i called, they said the office was closing and refused to schedule my appt. there's 700 different departments, no one can give you a straight answer. I loath this place. read more

I called on the Friday morning of Memorial Day weekend for an appointment as a new patient. I received an appointment for Tuesday afternoon as that was when my daughter was able to drive me there arriving an hour early. When I arrived the receptionist copied my medication list & asked if I knew how to use the computer to complete my records. When I said not really she pushed my wheelchair over to the waiting area & then entered all the information for me. It was so helpful. When my appointment time arrived I was called back to the office. I saw Dr. Friedman who was extremely proficient in explaining all the details so that I was able to understand everything. It was a wonderful experience & I then understood why my daughter has used Ortho Maryland for all the children's broken bones. read more

Made an appointment to visit the walk-in clinic after I tweaked my hand during a yoga practice. Got an x-ray, then saw a doctor who said I had no breaks or severe injuries and offered a brace. Said to wear the brace all the time except for when I was washing and to make a follow up for a month. After wearing the brace for about 10 days, I noticed tingling and numbness in my injured right hand, so I called to make a follow up. Saw a completely different doctor, this one recommended putting me in a cast up to my elbow?! I was hesitant but she said only for two weeks and then I should be better. Got the cast put on the same day and went home; that night I was in immense pain, more so than I had ever been even when I injured it. I couldn't sleep at all that whole night and the first thing the next morning I called OrthoMaryland back to get a doctor immediately because this did not feel normal, I shouldn't feel worse with the cast on. Got in contact with someone who said she had scheduled me an appointment for noon after I reiterated to her how uncomfortable and in pain I was. When I got back to the clinic, I was taken to the back where the durable medical equipment people cut my cast off; both of them remarked how swollen my hand looked compared to last night (it was the same people in there who had wrapped me). I asked what was next and they said nothing; I wasn't scheduled to see a doctor, just getting my cast cut off. I had no idea what to do next; and asked a receptionist what I could do. She looked through my file and recommended seeing their therapist but couldn't get me an appointment for another two weeks. Mind u-this is the receptionist who I'm now being forced to take medical advice from because I wasn't scheduled to see a doctor when I called about my cast. I left-disgusted by the lack of care and follow up and never showed up for the "appointment" with the therapist as by that time it just felt like they were shuffling me around to get money out of me; it was also incredibly unprofessional for me to have to follow up with a receptionist. If someone calls and complains about immense pain less than 24 hours after a cast is applied, shouldn't they be scheduled to see an actual doctor and not the durable medical equipment people only??! I went to Hopkins and got a second opinion and the injury turned out to have been severely exacerbated by the placement of the cast. When Hopkins asked specifically about what my treatment plan was; the lack of an actual plan by OrthoMaryland became apparent. I received a treatment plan via the ortho specialist at Hopkins, but my hand had become so inflamed from the crappy guessing game-like treatments at Ortho, I almost had to have surgery. The kicker- OrthoMaryland of course charged me $400 for the X-rays, brace and cast- the cast which was on for less than 24 hours. A $400 charge and this place grossly exacerbated my injury and greatly extended my healing time- thanks a lot. I would recommend NO ONE EVER GOING HERE!!!! You could just as easily take your chances at PatientFirst, or better yet-save the headache and mistreatment from the inept doctors at OrthoMaryland with their wildly fluctuating treatments and buy yourself a brace from CVS. read more

Dr. Chad Zooker was my physician and, without reservation, I can say that I was treated with care, competence and patience. His guidance and expertise led me to a perfect outcome. I couldn't be happier. The office staff were helpful, supportive and knowledgeable. They helped things go very smoothly. Worst Place ! Shameful place for America where they don't keep up with appointment times. You have to wait 30 -45 minutes for a fixed appointment, Our first time was a walk-in which was even more horrible where we literally waited for 4.5 hours and the doctor looked at x-ray of my 2.5 yr daughter (who was crying in pain for so long) for just 30 secs and told that she needs a cast. They say they are upgrading their system for 4-5 months and hence delay but it never got any better with those Jerks who work there.I would never ever go back. read more

I have been going to the Quarry Lake location since the beginning of this year. The doctors are fantastic, but the women that answer the phones for OrthoMD when you call with questions/ to make an appointment always sound so condescending and are quite rude- like your call is a nuisance to them and you're an idiot. I dread calling. I wish it would be addressed because I doubt I am the only one who gets this type of response. read more

Dr Jon Koman is the best surgeon. He has recently done a total knee replacement on my left knee. He performed replacement on right knee last summer. He is quite skilled in my opinion. I had some pretty bad knees. He is there for you from pre surgery to time you leave the hospital. He actually comes into the hospital to remove bandages instead of a resident doing it . Great bedside manner. If I had 3 knees- I would have him do the surgery . Ha ha read more

I came to Ortho Maryland to treat a broken bone. It was the first time that I had ever experienced a broken bone and surgery. I was refered to Dr. Chad Zooker. Dr. Zooker made my husband and I very comfortable from day 1. He explains everything thoroughly, he did not mind answering my questions in person and via e-mail. I was extremely nervous and stressed about my injury and Dr. Zooker and his entire team always made me feel comfortable. The ladies that work with Dr. Zooker are very friendly and everyone works hard to help you with recovery. It has been and continues to be a very good experience. read more

Horrible front desk staff! I am a client. I asked the receptionist Jerica, where is the bathroom? She told me in the hallway. The bathroom was dirty! I came back in and asked if there was another bathroom that I could use. Jerica said go to the second floor. I asked her if it was at the same location? Jerica said she didn't know. The second receptionist, Stephanie chimed in and informed me exactly where it was located. After going to the bathroom on the 2nd floor, I went back to the waiting area and sat down. Another white client asked what bathroom can his mother use? The receptionist told her that she could use the bathroom in the office! I asked Jerica why couldn't I use the same bathroom that they let the other lady use? Jerica said she didn't think about it! Wow how convenient! Horrible customer service!!! They need to be trained better! Eventhough we came before the white lady, she was seen before my daughter!!!! Very unprofessional! In the evening it goes in order first come first serve. It's a walk in clinic. How did the white lady get service before us? Very interesting to say the least. read more

Won't mention names, but I was sent to Ortho Maryland about a year ago. The Doctor I'm stuck with is a insurance whore and cares only about the money instead of my health. On several occasions I was given pain meds that I couldn't take due to allergies. One of these times could have been fatal! Don't go here!!!! Dr. Buchaulter, Kristin Wilhelmsen and reception staff were all fantastic. So why the meh? Accounting and management are deplorable. Last summer they went through some kind of systems upgrade that obviously was not going well. On 4 separate occasions for PT appointments, I was asked to input my info into a iPad type device for the "new system". When I asked why I was repeatedly doing the same thing with each weekly visit, I was told the system upgrade was "having problems." That was obvious--there was persistent double billing, difficulty that PT staff had inputting information during treatment, and Patient Portal access problems I experienced. When I questioned inconsistencies with their billing department I got basically a rude conversation and NO acknowledgement of their errors despite the resounding knowledge within the practice that their system redevelopment was a mess. At 18 months past my last date of service, they are still trying to bill my insurance company for services long past paid or ineligible to be paid. Baltimore is a big medical town--there is much to choose from. Go somewhere else that has it all together. read more

Yesterday, I visited OrthoMaryland at Quarry Lake for the first time, having been referred by my GP for shoulder pain. Everything about this visit felt like being pushed through a mill - impersonal, mechanical and uncaring. First was the tablet you are given to fill out your information in lieu of paper forms. While this was not objectionable per se, I felt rather uncomfortable swiping my credit card on the tablet for the copayment. This seemed vaguely sleazy ("Now the talking moose wants my credit card number. Well, that's only fair...). After turning in the tablet at the check in desk to a clerk who could not make any eye contact with me if she wanted to since there was a computer screen between us, I was told that the copayment was really $30 rather than $20 and the difference was demanded right then and there. Fortunately, I did not have to wait long for someone to come out and call my name (mispronouncing it - it's not a hard name to pronounce). This person never explained who she was (nurse, PA, technologist?) but proceeded to take me into an exam room and repeat many of the same questions I already answered on the tablet. During this procedure, she gave me a gown and told me to put it on but did not leave the room to give me privacy, so I waited until she left anyhow. This was very awkward! She got very frustrated with me when I could not remember the exact address of the drug store which I usually use, since they send all prescriptions electronically. Finally, the doctor arrived, announced that I had bad posture (but never explained how), gave me a whirlwind exam while appearing frustrated that I didn't understand all her hurriedly spoken instructions, then told me that while my condition wasn't serious, I should go to the ER if I "pee myself" or lose use of an arm! I found out later, by reading the report I was given by the checkout clerk, that the former symptom was an indication of cauda equina syndrome, a disorder of the lower spinal cord nowhere near C5 and C6, where my pain was assumed to originate. The doctor barely let me get a word in edgewise but rather spent most of the session typing into a computer. She prescribed a NSAID but didn't tell me what it was called. At last, when she asked if I had any other concerns, I mentioned that I had some knee pain, and she curtly cut me off with "I don't do knees, I'm a spine doctor". I did mention the knee pain on the tablet; how was I supposed to know that this was a no-go question? When I checked out, I asked about my prescription and I got a look like "you don't understand, do you" and was handed the aforementioned report. This report was full of inaccurate statements claiming that the doctor discussed exercises with me in detail, which never happened, and other false claims. Worst of all were references to "brachial radiculopathy", a term which was never mentioned or explained during my visit. Looking up this term when I got to work, I found that this refers to a rare condition characterized by intense pain, muscle weakness and muscle wasting, which is frightening and nothing remotely similar to what I am experiencing! Altogether, this taste of "modern medicine" left me with a strong case of future shock and a desire to draw Marcus Welby M.D. out of retirement. I am not going back there! read more

I generally do not enjoy having to file complaints against people within their workplace but in this situation it did not sit well with me to just remain quiet and I hope that no one else has been treated in this matter when calling the doctors office to make an appt. especially when they are already in pain. I called the orthopedic office on October 15, 2014 at approximately 3:50pm in an attempt to make an appt. with Dr. Buchalter to take a look at my broken toe. The receptionist Jill B. became very rude over the phone when attempting to relay another doctors office I would need to call because this office did not accept my insurance. She did not want to repeat the phone number after I asked her to repeat it because I could not hear her the first time, she then proceeded to yell it over the phone as if she was completely irritated with me. I remained calm and did not feed into her negative energy. She proceeded to rush me off of the phone as if I were a bother. I relayed to her that I felt she was rude and asked for her name, she told me it was Jill, I then asked her for her last name and she told me it was none of my business and hung up the phone. I truly hope that no one ever has to experience this sort of treatment when calling your doctors office. I would hope that one who chooses such a profession would be more cordial, helpful and respectful. I am looking forward to an apology from Ms. Jill B. and will take this further if need be. read more
