In an "hour-long" appointment I was lucky to get 2 minutes of face time with the doctor, who didn't seem particularly interested, just wanted to move on to the next patient. To add to the profit-drive factory farm feel, OAH (and OASC, which, somehow, is a completely separate entity from OAH - although of course they don't explain that to you) have extraordinarily opaque billing practices: In the 2 months since my surgery I have received bills for hundreds of dollars from at least 4 separate "companies" and counting. Along with assorted smaller bills. Follow up care has been disappointing - again, essentially zero time with the doctor (Dr. Stephen Davis) and, instead of referring me to PT or giving me exercises to do, Dr. Davis told me to look up exercises on YouTube. Not really the medical expertise I am looking for, or paying for to be honest. The only good thing is that the Orthopedic Associates Surgery Center is a beautiful facility. The OAH offices (Plainville, etc.) are your typical doctors offices, nothing special, if anything a little more worn and dated than I expected. In all, would not recommend unless they are your only option.

However they do accept Connecticare patients who do not have the insurance thru the exchange. Even the receptionist was apologetic. I had the option of paying $250 for a visit which I declined since I do have insurance. She wrote out the names of other places I could go to get looked at. I just drove home feeling humiliated and embarrassed. I contacted the State insurance department to ask if this was legal? Sounds suspicious to me.

The pain got so bad I couldn't bend to put on socks or lift the mattress to make the bed. I had reviewed many local surgeons on line and settled on Dr. David Kruger in Bloomfield, Ct. Others have stated.he is a surgeon who will not jump at a chance to use his surgical skills and in my case, while he was reserved and serius about the possible outcomes of surgery, he was also quite confident he could help address my problem only after thorough review of my MRI. I too was not hoping for surgery but I had exhausted all other options and when Dr. Kruger showed me the arthritis affected bone pinching my nerve we agreed to surgery. Surgery went well, and Dr. Kruger performed an L3 and L4 laminotomy and foraminotomy. I had been worried about the recovery period, but all went much better than I could have imagined. I was home the same day of surgery and took one of the painkillers before bed. As the anesthetics wore off it was immediately apparent my pain was gone. I never needed additional pain killers and went to work the next day (I work at home so did not need to drive). Recovery was painless aside from some stiffness where the muscles were cut. Although I felt fine and thought I could return to playing tennis after a couple of weeks, the Dr. recommended I wait at least 6 weeks. I tried, but in the fifth week I played tennis on Friday, golf and tennis on Sunday. No pain, nor stiffness. Honestly, it hurt more to remove one of the staples than it did for the surgery, and this was an anomaly. I highly recommend Dr. Kruger as an honest surgeon whose main concern is working with the patient to find the best solution for their problem -- even if this does not include surgery. In retrospect, I am disappointed with the Dr. that had advised I get the cortisone shots (not Dr. Kruger, but the folks at Hartford Hospital) as it seemed the MRI presented ample evidence the shots would have no affect. Is is great to be pain free just in time for golf season and I am enjoying playing tennis multiple times per week. Thank you Dr. Kruger.

He did my…read moretotal knee replacement in January of 2026 and when I returned in April for the 3 month check, I told him I was having considerable difficulties. In addition to my subjective complaints of ongoing pain, there were objective measures to indicate something was wrong. I was going backwards in the progress I had made in physical therapy, the PT and my PCP referred me to a lymphedema specialist because of abnormal swelling, and I developed a painful snapping sensation behind the knee making it very difficult to walk up stairs, something I did not have previously. This doctor refused to hear my concerns and told me I was "thinking too much" about the knee. He recommended that I stop all therapy, including the lymphedema intervention. I was compelled to find a doctor who would offer a second opinion, and after an MRI of the knee, the problems were properly diagnosed. To my shock, as I prepared for the visit with the second doctor and gathered the surgical notes from MyChart, I reviewed what Dr. Shekhman had write about the April visit regarding my complaints and dissatisfaction. I was astonished that he had completely misrepresented our conversation, said I was happy with the outcome and making good progress. Either he never heard what I told him, or felt the need to misrepresent what had actually transpired. Neither is good. I would not recommend him for anyone else facing knee replacement. There are other excellent surgeons outside of OAH who also listen to their patients. Thankfully, owing to the quick intervention of my new doctor, the difficulties are being treated and I am seeing some progress although further surgery may be required. Perhaps Dr. Shekhman is too arrogant to listen, or perhaps he made assumptions because I am a woman, and thus dismissed me completely,essentially telling me that everything I was feeling was "in my head." There are other great surgeons; I would never recommend him.

I was also told that surgery had never been discussed. When I mentioned I was in pain and could not walk he said yes you can you're not in pain. Go home and take a Tylenol. Your spine is perfect you are so lucky. I later obtained a second opinion and was diagnosed with a condition requiring spinal fusion, with clear warnings that delaying surgery could result in permanent nerve damage. I have never been spoken to so dismissively in a medical setting. If you are dealing with ongoing pain or neurological symptoms, I strongly urge you to seek another opinion rather than relying solely on this provider.

He had x-rays taken in his office and reviewed them w me. In his opinion I had nothing wrong...I have a muscular strain and "get back to living your life" was said to me. He then through his body against the wall in the exam room several time to illustrate how my body was injured in the crash. He went on a tirade about all of this and was very theatrical to say the least. He was loud, obnoxious and very disrespectful. I sat there thinking... why on earth do you think I drove across the state to see this man? I had total confidence in him after my discectomy and it had been over 20 years since. Did he think I was faking it to milk the insurance company??? I asked for more PT but he refused saying my problem was muscular and it wouldn't help. In my mind I had these symptoms that he didn't recognize. I didn't understand his loud and flamboyant response to my symptoms. It didn't make sense to me. I reiterated my symptoms several times and asked about acupuncture and massage. He completely dismissed the idea saying they ere quacks and that he knows what's good for me. I was appalled to say the least. This doctor who made me whole again so many years ago was no longer in the room. He wasn't listening to me, he was dictating my evaluation. I will never see this man again. My pain is real. As I tried to explain my pain and symptoms he belittled me to the point of embarrassment. I worked my entire life and am entering into retirement. The office staff and PA's for Dr. Risinger have told WC she's able to work when she can't grip or lift her arm. They actually listed false information on the WC forms. For your own or loved ones safety do not go there.
