Had issues with my wrist, was referred by a friend initially to Dr Drury at the Wasilla office then he sent me to Dr ALa their hand specialists in Anchorage. The offices are ran very smoothly and the Doctors and staff outstanding! Alpine surgery center was a great place as well. I was treated very well and they were very caring. I've had five surgeries by three different doctors at this practice, both knees replaced, c-spinal fusion, carpal tunnel both hands, and a 10 hour extensive spinal reconstruction. My wife and I are currently patients of Dr. Botson. It can take awhile to get an appointment, but everyone I've dealt with there, check-in clerks, PAs, x-ray techs, MRI techs, clerical personnel, and doctors, has been friendly, helpful, and very competent. read more

Got referral to OPA from another provider. Waited a couple of days for the referral to get over to OPA. When I called, a representative said they did not have that referral yet, and promised to get back with me the next day. This did not happen. I waited until the next week and called back. Another OPA associate said there was some problem with the paper work somewhere along the line and promised to get back to me at the end of the day. Still no call back. after a few more days, I called the office where I'd gotten the referral and asked for a referral to another clinic. Only then, after 10 days, did I get a call back from OPA. I've since contacted AFOC, was able to get in right away, and am very pleased with their service. I'm sure there are some very fine physicians at OPA, but my experience with their office left me disappointed with the handling of this issue and unlikely to want to deal with them again. read more

I was not pleased at all with their services. As a background I have psiatica, arthritis in shoulders and neck and went in for a rotator cuff hurting. They took X-Rays and the PA used a lot of medical terms and that supposedly isolated the problem. They then scheduled a Physical Therapist, who on the first visit went over some exercises with a big rubber band. On the second visit I asked for paper versions of the exercises so that I could review at home. I was informed that they do not do this as "they had proprietary exercises". Believe me when I say that the exercises were not proprietary. At any other PT facility they gave me the paper exercises. Needless to say for a 45 minute session they charged a high amount and it wasn't worthwhile. I think they were concerned with booking my 6 visits than curing the problem. read more

I wish I could give this place a negative rating. I wouldn't recommend even a dead animal here. I had an appointment for 3pm and they told me to arrive at 230 for paper work, and at 350 they decided it was ok for me to start my visit. And I quote "your lucky it's only been an hour we are normally a hour and a half behind." This has been the most unprofessional place I have ever entered. The staff in their entirety is rude and unprofessional. I asked for my disc back that I brought in and now it can't be found. They said they will make me another copy. I wanted the original copy back that is now missing and that my complied medical records on it. Way to go OPA, I would trust this place if my life depended on it. read more

We took my 5 year old son to the injury clinic after falling from the monkey bars. The staff was so welcoming and even brought out coloring pages and some fun balls to entertain my other kids! The staff was outstanding talking care of my son, the nurses, PA, x-ray technician, and splinting staff :) today, a week later, we followed up to get another x-ray and cast his arm and again, easy check-in, warm helpful nursing staff, especially when talking with kids! The casting staff was so fun and made my kid feel at ease!! What a great experience for my first kids broken bone!!! (Bonus for fun design on the cast!! Thanks Toby!!) read more

After a skiing accident, came directly to the walk-in clinic at OPA for assessment. I was correctly diagnosed with a torn L knee ACL, but both clinicians I saw at OPA missed the torn R knee ACL. My injury was only diagnosed after I made an appointment with another orthopedic surgeon after walking around on an unstable R knee for over a week. I spoke with the physician after he found out that I had a bad R knee, and he claimed that he had not examined my right knee, well he did examine my right knee, as did another PAC, and they both missed the injury. I think the exam could have been more through and I am not satisfied with the care I received. read more

The level of care my son received at your state-of-the-art facility is top-notch! My son was seen by a local hand surgeon (NOT OPA) who completely missed his diagnosis. Your Physician Assistant (PA-C) made the correct diagnosis and as a result my son was immediately scheduled for surgery with your highly skilled hand surgeon Dr. Kornmesser. We received frequent updates from OPA as to the status of our insurance coverage/approval prior to surgery. The staff and doctors at OPA are extremely skilled, thorough and courteous. I applaud the pre/post op nurses for insuring the comfort of my son during his short stay at Alpine Surgery Center. read more

I'm to have knee surgery at this facility. I live 5 hours away; the orthopedist I saw locally referred me here. I'm having a big problem. I'm told I'll need to have an escort after the surgery. I do not have one. I do not know anyone in Anchorage, and my friends are not able to leave their jobs to escort me. The surgery scheduler told me if I don't have an escort, she won't schedule the surgery. I'm wearing a leg brace and need the surgery. This is not good. read more

I only have one complaint about OPA. I had gone in for pain in my right arm, and they sent me downstairs for a nerve conduction test. I never saw an order for what tests they were to conduct. The doctor who did my tests only looked at the test he was supposed to do, but not anything else. I was going through a rough patch at the time and was temporarily on Medicaid. I assumed he wouldn't do a test that was not on the order, but that was not the case. It turns out there was no response with the test from my hand. He asked me if I would like to see if there was any results from my upper arm, but never mentioned it wasn't on the order. I figured if he asked me, it had been ordered, that he wouldn't ask to do a non-ordered test, so I told him yes. Too bad I didn't have all the information to make that decision. Long story short, I now have a bill that's almost $1,000 because I was kept in the dark about the order, and the doctor didn't inform me that the 2 minute procedure wasn't on the order. read more

Never even saw a real doctor. Saw a pa who insisted I had frozen shoulder (I had a broken rotator cuff anchor). The pa gave me 4 injections in my shoulder which then sent my shoulder into so much pain I couldn't lift it to feed myself. I had a reaction from the shots which his nurse told me couldn't happen. It took my pcp looking at me to get things taken care of. She refused to let me do pt until I had seen a pain doc. I ended up dealing with it for 6 months, did pt for 4 until a doc from California ended up fixing it. These people are trained monkeys practicing medicine and shouldn't be allowed to touch people. Even when I called them out on their wrong doing they still wouldn't admit they had done anything wrong. read more

Ok, so not only did I have a torn rotator cuff, I also needed a partial replacement of the same shoulder; pretty scary stuff! And yet, my entire experience at OPA which included diagnosis, surgery, recovery, and now PT have been nothing short of exceptional! Dr. Eli Powell is brilliant, caring, professional, and empathetic and his PA Brian O'Loughlin is surely following his example, while Medical Assistant Susie with her beautiful smile makes sure all my appointments go smoothly. Alpine Surgery Center was immaculate, efficient, and state of the art, not to mention I loved the matching purple gowns and socks!! Then there was Alpenglow Short Stay Assisted Living home with its attentive, warm & caring staff Christina Morgan Nurse Director, RN Ashley and CNA Bette (to name a few!), immaculate & gorgeous rooms, gourmet meals, all without ever leaving the building after surgery! And now Physical Therapy with Therapist Marty Sanchez and his awesome PT Student Jake making sure that not only do I make improvements with every single appointment but that I also don't hurt myself in the process!! And now just 8 short weeks later, my shoulder has never felt better!! Yep, literally my entire experience at OPA was exceptional and I give them the absolute highest recommendation!! read more

Because I didn't have insurance, but only Anchorage Project Accesss, I was treated poorly from day one. I will never darken the door of that clinic again. Not everyone has insurance, not everyone is wealthy. Yes, they helped me, but I never left there feeling cared for, but resented. The medical assistant I got was awful to the point of me asking to never have to speak to her again. Choose another clinic, if I were you. read more

My husband went to the ER almost three weeks ago. They referred him to OPA immediately because of his lab work. My husband was barely able to walk, move and they put him on pain killers which he doesn't take lightly. I called them for the next three days. They told me they saw there was something going on and she would talk to the Dr. but he wasn't taking new patients until March. I called again the next day. Someone doesn't go to the ER for no reason. She than told me they wouldn't make an appointment for me until the rest of his labs came in. We have yet to hear from them. All we needed was a simple answer is if they were going to see him or not. The hospital seemed to think he needed to be seen there. When your staff says they will call you back, they should call you back. His labs came in long ago. It's easy enough to call a referring patient up and say, we won't see you because or yes, we will see you. Your call back time is horrible and your office gets away with it because your the only one in anchorage. It's sad for patients and downright scary. read more

I had two previous surgeries with Dr. Moore, who is an excellent surgeon, prior to his affiliation with OPA and my insurance paid for the doctor and the surgery center no questions asked. I was told that Dr. Moore was now doing his surgery through Alpine Surgery Center and was told my surgery was pre-approved by my insurance company. I trusted my doctor and I had no reason to suspect that my third surgery would be any different. I had shoulder surgery on September 21, 2015 at Alpine Surgery Center, a day surgery center. On the day of the surgery I was assured that everything was okay with my surgery and that I would probably not have to pay anything additional out of pocket because I had double coverage.The bill for both the physician,the physican's assistant and the surgery center was close to $100,000. I found out later that my surgery was done at a facility that was not approved by my insurance company and that I had been lied to. My doctor's office told me that the surgery center required a $500 deposit which I paid by credit card. The surgery center said they never received a $500 payment and my credit card company said the payment was made to OPA. Attempts to find out what happened to my $500 have been unsuccessful. I have left numerous messages for the billing department at OPA to call me back but nothing. This despite the fact OPA had already received large checks from my insurance company for the services of both Dr. Moore and his PA. I feel like they thought we already have your money from the insurance company so we don't need to talk to you any more. As a result of Dr. Moore's affiliarion with OPA, I have spent numerous hours on the phone trying to settle my insurance claim, all while trying to recover from surgery. At a result of Dr. Moore's affiliation with OPA, my surgery center costs were close to $63,000 and I may be responsible for $54,000 because my insurance only paid $8,500. At this point, I would tell anyone whose doctor is affiliated with OPA to immediately change doctors. read more

I went in with severe, debilitating shoulder pain (cannot move arm, and hurts even when not moving it) and got an x-ray. The PA showed me the x-ray, said I might need surgery or possibly some other injection treatment, and sent me to another provider to schedule an MRI. Meanwhile, he prescribed pain meds for one week, not refillable, and it takes a week just to get an MRI appointment. I found out later that you cannot even get a refill without driving back to their office to get it in person, then driving to the pharmacy to pick it up - very handy when you are unable to drive. Could they have thought to make the prescription refillable, knowing that there was no scenario in which they would have taken care of my shoulder problem within one week? Nope. They did not call back after getting my MRI results for a day and a half, as they had said they would; I had to call them. After calling back repeatedly to talk to a live person, since they cannot be trusted to return any voice messages you leave them, I finally got through to someone who knew little about anything. Then they tried to set me up with another "talking" appointment with a doctor, or maybe it would be a PA, not sure, two weeks out, which might/maybe eventually lead to an actual appointment for actual treatment (surgery or other). Plan on spending lots of time on hold and talking to people who know nothing, and seemingly could not care less, about your injury. There is no planning, just a series of disconnected appointments, time on hold, messages that do not get returned. I asked to talk to an office manager to express my dissatisfaction with the series of phone calls and waits leading to nothing. The person I was talking to didn't even know the office manager's name - what does that tell you? After finding it out from a coworker, she gave me the name but, of course, she could not talk to me at the time, because she wanted to review my chart first and ... will call me back. Meanwhile, i called another doctor's office and in one hour accomplished more than in the past week, which I've wasted with OPA. I have an appointment with an actual doctor tomorrow, and the person scheduling it was polite, concerned, helpful and informative. read more
