They also check problems and questions you may have for free. One of the employees even rode with me to figure out what the problem was with my car. I would recommend going here for an oil change over any other place in Hood River 100%. Cheap but reliable.

Sorry previous reviewer, Expertec demonstrates neither integrity or honesty…read more As a woman bringing a car to a mechanic, I expect to get a little bit of run around, that's why I am upfront about my problem(s) and my expectations. I am new to town and looking for a mechanic; this is not them. My first problem with them started when the manager tried to hint strongly that my vehicle may have an issue unrelated to what I brought the car in for (that I happen to know is quite expensive in man-hours and I know is common to my make/model--instantly shady), that my car currently had no symptoms for. Expertec then decided to further take advantage of me by clearly ignoring my straightforward repair request and performing an unnecessary additional 2 hour diagnostic on my vehicle, charging me the full hourly price for merely hooking my car up to a code-reader. I have the $45 scanner at home: I am capable of doing an internet search and being familiar with an engine. It was entirely unnecessary for them to need 2 hours of diagnostic work (doing what? It doesn't take two hours to run codes!)--especially without informing me prior--to determine the same problem I came in asking to have fixed. They also did not have common parts in stock and needed to keep my car overnight for the undemanding repair ($20 engine thermostat). When they called with the "prognosis" of my initial problem, they informed me they hadn't even looked at my second request (an issue with the electronics module in the door). Had I let them continue with my vehicle, they wouldn't have identified my second issue until the following day--where they (again) wouldn't have had the part in stock and would need to keep my vehicle yet a third day. Expertec, you come off shady, unprofessional, and willing to take advantage of the well-intentioned. This is not how you do business in a small town. I've since learned they have this reputation in town. Recommendation: Stay away!

Honestly, if I could leave a review with a negative star I would. That is what these people…read moredeserve. My experience extended over two visits. First visit: I recently moved from Portland to Cascade Locks to be closer to my mother who is having some health issues. So, I needed another mechanic for my car. I saw that this shop got good reviews so when I thought my rear axle seal was leaking, I took it to them. It turns out my front axle seal was leaking and they said my air conditioning was leaking as well. I told them to check out the air conditioning but my priority was the axle seal. Well, they started on the air conditioning. I kept calling for updates on what was going on because they have no communication skills. They were going to charge me 800.00 for the air conditioning so I had them stop, because they hadn't even gotten to the axle seal yet. I paid them for what they had done already. I bought the sensor and the manifold and gauges for recharging the system and the coolant, which came to 100.00 and did that myself. Second visit: Melissa sent me a text that they would do the axle seal for a reasonable amount so I set the appointment for July 3rd, which she agreed to in the text. The morning of the appointment my mother had a medical emergency so at 1 am I went to Hood River. I got back home about 3 am and got an hours sleep, so I could make the appointment. My wife had taken the day off work to take me back home after I dropped the car off. I go to the shop and it is dark, no one is there and there is no notice on the door. Another customer was waiting as well and said the shop decided to take that day off. I could not believe it. No effort to contact me to reschedule, nothing. After I had made an appointment and rearranged my life, they decide to effectively tell me they don't need my business. They must have an incredible established customer base because from this treatment it seems they do not need any more customers. Well, they lost this one. I could not believe the lack of empathy, human decency or professionalism. Each person is said to influence 100 people in their social circle, I will make sure I tell everyone I can not to use this shop.
