I've been a customer for over 10 years. They specialize in foreign cars. I have a 2005 Audi Allroad. It still runs like a champ with 247k miles on her. The Gorge is fortunate to have auto techs that are honest, matter of fact and fix your vehicle for a fair price. I wouldn't take my car anywhere else. In fact I've had my car towed from Portland to this shop. Because I trust them. They tell you the issue & you choose whether or not to proceed. And yes, for a proper diagnostic, you have to leave your car. On that note; I read the one star reviews. I called & chatted with the owner about them. First off, this is an Auto Shop. Not Nordstrom's customer service department. Techs are techs. Direct. I think you need to consider that there are 2 sides to every story. "The break guy" - $1000 was to do a proper fix. 2 Rotors, 2 Calipers, set of pads plus labor. Les only quoted for one caliper. Which is unsafe. 6 months later, he is driving without any fix. Small town. Nicole & Dan are married. Brought in old Volvo. Nicole was less than helpful with the sound issue. She was sent the diagnostic & signed off on it. She could have declined or called to say that was not the sound. She instead became hostile & aggressive. So much so, she was asked to leave. Jack H is not in the customer database. His review is a lie. The check engine light guy. They don't stop working on a job because you pull up. Make an appointment. read more

I took my Toyota Tundra to see if my brakes needed to be bled. He said that they were fine. But, my right front caliper was sticking and it wasn't safe to drive. He gave me a quote of $1,000. I thought that was extremely high. I called Les Schwab and they quoted me $350. I took it to Les Schwab and they inspected the brakes and they said that nothing was wrong with them. Don't do it! I brought my Audi (2) and Sprinter to them several times (I'm a slow learner) and EVERY time there was a problem: didn't replace oil fill cap after an oil change, didn't tighten lug nuts correctly after a tire change, installed unnecessary parts, on and on. read more

Used them a couple times for two different cars and two times now I had to bring both cars back after picking them up because the problem was not fixed (although they said it was and took payment) On one occasion, I picked my car up after they said it was fixed & I paid them in full. As I was driving home, only about a mile later, my check engine light went on and I heard the noise happening (the same noise I brought it in for originally) when I took it back, they were extremely rude & claimed my car now had a new problem and needed a diagnostic. The diagnostic wouldn't be able to get done for days. My car had already been there for a whole week! I was upset and asked them to prioritize the car since it had already been in, the problem not fixed and i had paid over $800! I ended up towing my car and taking it to a specialist in Portland who fixed it for $200 and said it was a completely different problem that in the mechanic at Gilco said it was. I basically believe they "fixed" something that was not even broken, charged me over $800 and then returned my car with the same problem unfixed, claiming it was a different problem. They were angry when I had my car towed and proceeded in a very unprofessional way, to insult me, telling my husband "to keep your wife in check!!!! " I do not think these people are profession, competent, or trust worthy. Find another mechanic! read more

I can tell you frankly these guys are 5 star, all the way. No BS get er done right! . I have a high performance engine that sucked a lifter. Fixed right and better than new. If you want it done right, at a fair price take your business here. If you dont, you will be sorry. !!!! Took my car to Gillco this morning, because the check engine light came on. Arrived 5 min after they opened, and went in to talk to mechanic. One of the guys met me at the door and rudely asked "what do you want"? I explained that my check engine light came on and wanted to get a diagnostic. Again, very rudely I was told I'd have to leave my car there for two weeks to get a diagnostic. There was literally no other person there, and no other cars in the garage. Not one. This mechanic was just as rude as he could possibly be to a customer just asking a question. I will never buy gas there again, and will surely take my business elsewhere. read more

The owner, Jesse, and staff are German car enthusiasts, very knowledgeable and honest. When I moved to the Columbia Gorge 7 years ago I was concerned that I would be forced to make frequent trips to Portland to service my cars (2 Audi S4s and an allroad). Turns out The best mechanics are right here! Prices are always fair and they look for ways to save me money, even though I don't ask. Their advice on service needs are always balanced with recommendations on what is urgent and what can wait so I can plan ahead. They are really good at diagnosing the exact problem and communicate frequently if they uncover more issues. I track my cars and have many upgrades and they handle this no problem. In fact Aaron is two steps ahead of me on what I can do next... Trustworthy and competent. I highly recommend them! COVID has been a non-issue. They installed a walk-up window so you can take care of business and maintain social distancing. Probably even more efficiently than prior to this epidemic. read more

I took my car in to have the tires swapped. It took the entire day and, upon driving 40 feet, a wheel feel off. Completely. My car was not nice to begin with but this did further body damage. Their only offer was to put the wheel back on. I had to request that they check the rest of the lug nuts. Either over-worked or incompetent. Probably some combination of the two. These guys are the BEST! They were so kind to help three damsels in distress when a plastic covering on the underside of our car came loose and was making an awful sound. They helped us, let us use their restroom AND gave us advice about neighboring establishments when they didn't have what we were looking for in stock. Jesse of Gillco is really helpful every time I go in. He took just 10 minutes to repair an electrical problem I had that I had spent 3 hours on. He really knows tires also and does great tire service for flats. One thing he does is give free air but dont forget to return the air gauge. One of his guys said people sometimes walk off with it and if he does give free air he deserves to keep his gauge. Try to call for an appointment cause he super busy and he said he likes that better. All the guys who work there are attentive and do great work as well. read more
