I ordered online shrimp hibachi and was beyond upset. On their menu it says this item is 13.95 and says nothing about a price change if you order it to go. I called in to place this order and could not understand the man on the phone. I could not understand the price he was saying. So I arrived and instead of the 13.95 it should have been it was 29.95. This is ridiculous. At any other hibachi place I have been to lunch hibachi isn't more expensive than $15 even if you order to go. The meal itself was not very impressive either. Nothing stood out in particular for flavor... very disappointed. I will not be returning. Update, the food also just isn't good. When you pay essentially $2.5/piece you expect it to be really yummy right? I spent $25 on 2 rolls and got 10 pieces. Came with no sauce except for soy sauce. Nothing in the crunchy roll tasted was crunch. Spicy tuna wasn't spicy. I was expecting at least quantity or quality but really it was underwhelming with little flavor and there wasn't much to eat. We ordered sashimi and this is what we got. Uni wasn't bad texturally but was flavorless. As you can see the scallop is not sashimi at all. I don't know any Japanese restaurant that serves sashimi scallops in this manner....all minced up and covers in mayonnaise. Either the chef was lazy and didn't want to cut fresh scallop or he didn't have sashimi grade scallop so he gave us minced scallop in mayonnaise that they use for sushi rolls. The biggest disappointment was the king crab. This does not even qualify as a sashimi piece of crab. It's basically crab bits, completely dry and without flavor. After the change in ownership and the pandemic, we went back for old times sake and were hugely rewarded. Lunch combos are wonderful, generous, and an incredible value. For dinner we had sashimi, tempura, and goma ae. The quality of the food was very high, the portions huge (especially for the fish), and the value outstanding. Staff were all very friendly and the service efficient. The room is attractive, and there are comfortable outdoor tables. Diners need to understand the challenges facing restaurants these days and make the occasional concession. None was necessary on our recent visits, and we are now regulars again. read more

I used to love Osaka when Jenny owned it. The best in town. Our order tonight was placed through GrubHub and when it was delivered 75% of the food was missing. I called two times and the owner lied twice saying the missing food was on it's way but it NEVER arrived. I called GrubHub and they gave a refund but I hold them responsible as well. This is not rocket science people. Restaurant: make sure the food is ready and packaged and labeled and picked up correctly. GH Driver: Wow, all you have to do is look at the order and make sure it's there. When the sushi order is $100 and there is one small bag something MIGHT be wrong here. We ended up coming up with the on going yearning for Sushi, we had for a few days. That being said, we didn't think to check what time they closed haha. They served us like normal and I didn't realize that they closed at 2pm until I checked in on Yelp. I do feel bad, but I am thankful they were hospitable enough to not turn us away. There was a group of us, and in that group there was 2 that are anti-sushi. But they had teriyaki and salad dished which was satisfactory. I wish I would of asked to take home some of the salad dressing they use. Or figure out how to make it or where I could buy it. I love that dressing. Their sushi tasted so so good. That was my main reason for going here. Their udon was pretty good, I do wish it was a bit more flavorful. BEWARE!!!! We just had an HORRIBLE experience at this place. My 17-year-old niece walked in, asked for our carry out order, it was handed to her, she asked if it was correct, was told yes, and she brought it home. Upon arriving at home, we realized it was the completely wrong order. We called the restaurant, explained the situation and asked what they wanted us to do with this food. They said it's our mistake there's nothing we can do with it and your original order is here for pick up. My niece drives back to the restaurant to pick up our correct order and they refused to give it to her because they wanted the incorrect order returned. WHAT?! GROSS!!!! Then they had the audacity to say it was my niece's fault because she walked out of the restaurant with the wrong food. When we explained that we had ditched the food we didn't order, because it couldn't be returned and we didn't want it they refused to give us our original food that we paid for. There are so many things wrong with the situation, but the biggest is they were concerned about unaccounted food. And our concern is what on earth were they going to do with the food once it was returned?!?! Give it to someone else? After already being out of the restaurant in our home? That's disgusting. I have a tip for people who want to come and eat at Osaka in Columbia, Mo... DON'T. With a mixture of terrible service, cold food, and the lack of knowledge that the staff has about the menu... it's ridiculous. We asked to sit at the hibachi grill and the hostess said, "we aren't seating there." After 5 minutes, I witnessed 3 different families being sat at the grill and frankly, that is flat out disrespectful. We had 3 different servers who asked for our food order because no one knew where they were assigned. We ordered our food and we waited. And waited. And waited. After 45 minutes of utter confusion, our food arrives, except for my California Roll (all at once. Salad, entree, soup, vegetables, rice, etc.). The best thing I ate tonight was the salad. My shrimp was so over cooked that I could throw it on the ground and it could bounce back up onto my plate. My chicken was cold and tasted like straight sodium. We asked our waiter for 4 things: 2 forks, ginger sauce, and yum yum sauce. He assured me that my California Roll was coming out. But then... a magic trick! Our waiter disappeared! After 20 minutes, we flagged down someone and requested the manager. We requested the same 4 things, explained that the service so far has been TERRIBLE, that our food is cold, and I said to cancel my California Roll. She returned with the items, plus 18 more. She brought us a basket of forks! And the scary part, is that they will just put the basket back... I'm not saying we did, but some people could get there germs on the forks, which could create a big health hazard... GROSS. After we were done, we once again had to flag down someone so we could get our check. Our waiter appeared and he brought us our bill. He asked for my debit card and didn't set the bill down. I mean, at least let me see how much this garage costs... The manager returned and said she gave us 20% off of our bill and to come back again and sit at the hibachi... WE TRIED TO SIT THERE IN THE VERY BEGINNING! All in all my $26+ bill paid for terrible service, cold chicken, bouncy ball shrimp, and salty vegetables. I've given Osaka a few chances and come to the conclusion that it's just not anything to write home about.... The sushi is always warm or room temperature with hardly any flavor, the size of the rolls are small and lacking listed ingredients. The other day we had a party of 15 out there for a Birthday party. The food took forever to reach us and each persons order was delivered 5-10 minutes apart. I chalked it off to us being a large party, but I just read that they deliver food at different times to much smaller parties as well. I would rather eat sushi from the Hyvee grocery store than from here. Totally sub-par food. Sushi tastes like someone who's a total rookie is making it. I got the Big O roll and my wife got the Meghan Roll. Both were good, but we both agreed the Big O roll was better. The Meghan roll had a little too much cream cheese in it for our liking...although it tasted just fine. I tried the iced tea - interesting flavor. Liked it at first, then less so as the meal went on. The price and quality of the food exceeds the food they provide. The food ordered by the three of us was delivered to the table at different times. The first person who received the food finished his meal, and the udon noodles ordered by one of us had not been delivered to the table. There was a difference over of half an hour. The restaurant is not a lot of guests, usually a restaurant, the same table guests order food is served same time together. Instead of a half-hour difference in service .
