The poor animals are in small old dirty cages. The dogs are shivering in kennels that have doors…read morethat don't completely close and the poor cats have to hear the dogs barking 24/7. None of them have blankets or toys or anything that would bring them even the slightest amount of comfort. There are like 100 cages one cat in each cage not one toy not one blanket in the cages it is absolutely heartbreaking. The older lady at the front desk was rude and seemed miserable with her job and that followed suit with every single worker except the one gentleman that showed the cats. The lady you have to talk to with a fish tank in her office near the lobby I guess some kind of adoption councilor was the most unprofessional, unpleasant, rude angry person I think I have ever met . No warmth in that place for people or pets. Over all it was a very negative experience because of the lack of care , customer service and lack of care for the poor animals. We are actually traumatized by the staff and the condition of the environment for the animals. This is probably why they make you leave your phones (cameras) and belongings in a locker because they don't want people to post the horrible way they treat the community or the animals. They should have a negative million stars . Hey need some new staff in there and to clean the place get rid of the mold and add comfort measures for the animals. We were ready to adopt a few animals and provide a good loving home for them but because of the absolutely horrific attitudes or the front desk lady , the council lady who was angry and mean and the rest of the workers that walk right by without even saying hello or acknowledging... we went somewhere else and adopted our new fur babies. Very sad and very disappointed.

Update: Aside from the kitten that I lost because of the negligence of the doctor. I have another…read morekitten, who is thankfully, still healthy. However, the doctor is now refusing to fill a prescription for flea medication because it "puts His license on the line." He's concerned with his license over flea medication, but was not concerned with it when he was negligent and sent us home with a sick kitten twice. It's one thing to be negligent, it's another to call a grieving pet parent and accuse them of misinformation. On 3/10, we took my kitten who was losing weight, was so thin you could feel all of his bones, was lethargic and had discharge from his eyes. We were told that it was not an upper respiratory infection and that his lungs sounded clear. We were given eyedrops to clear the discharge and told to return in a week if he did not improve. I had previously scheduled an appointment on 3/17 to get Chili and his littermate vaccinated so I took them in. I verbally told the VetTech that Chili had not improved and I was concerned that it was now two weeks and he was low energy, wasn't using the litterbox, and had not gained weight. She came back and told me that the doctor was not concerned and that Chili was just going to be a small cat. A week later I made an appointment at a different vet to get another opinion. Within seconds of seeing Chili they advised to get him to a hospital asap. took him to a Hospital where we were told he had FIP and had to make a quality of life decision. At 5 months old, Chili had to be put down. If you look up FIP, the symptoms are exactly what I brought up. Looking back it's mindblowing that we were sent home twice and my concerns brushed off as 'a small cat'. I spoke to Caroline who sounded very robotic. She informed me that the drops we were given said to go back in a week if he didn't improve to get a different medication for a URI despite the fact the vet told us it was NOT a URI. She also told me that Chili maintained his weight across both appointments. maintaining weight does not mean maintaining a HEALTHY weight. Especially when his littermate was 2 pounds heavier and much larger than him. She told me that I was told that I could get him tested for the coronavirus, which mutates into FIP, but that they did not offer this in house. This is a blatant lie. At NO point was I advised that I could get him tested or that it might be something else. I asked to speak to someone else and I was told that her supervisor, Marie would call me back that day. The next day Marie had not called me back but I did receive an email confirming Chili's next appointment. I called in immediately to cancel this and mentioned that I was waiting on a call. She called me back within the hour and sounded very bothered and informed me that she had 10 minutes to spare. We went over the details and she started sticking to the fact that Chili maintained his weight despite the fact that I brought up other concerns as well. Once her 10 minutes were up she told me she'd look into it further and would have to call me back. She called me and let me know that we provided misinformation. She also referenced an appointment for my other cat from two months ago likely in an attempt to blame the fact she had a URI on why Chili got sick. She stated that in the 10 minutes the vet saw Chili he was not concerned because he was squirming to get away and was given a healthy body score. Trying to get away from a stranger who is poking and prodding you does not trump 2 weeks of being lethargic. Marie also told me that I was informed it was URI which contradicts what Caroline told me. I told her that all I wanted was some accountability for the fact I was not informed that I could take Chili to get tested elsewhere for a possible coronavirus diagnosis. She told me that I was informed --- I was informed that Chili would be a small cat. This practice will not take accountability for anything and instead of doing so will turn it around and blame you for not providing all of the necessary information or for misspeaking.

We called Dr. Carrier after making the awful decision that we had to put our dog down. He responded…read morevery quickly and called me to discuss the situation. I wanted to confirm that now was the time. He helped us understand that her time had indeed come, and that there was nothing we could do to help our wonderful old girl get back to where she was. The process in our home was very professional and dignified. He eliminated all of our concerns by confirming there was no coming back and confirming that we did not want to watch her continue to decompensate. We have no concerns that we made the wrong decision. Dr. Carrier confirmed that what we were doing was the most compassionate path for our beloved dog. It's just that awful feeling that comes with the passing of a pet. I would recommend Dr. carrier without hesitation. He was just great.

Yesterday the friend with the case came in and Blackie immediately ran and hid. After 12 hours she came out, but when I got up to go to the appointment she was hiding (and still is) again. The receptionists AT VCA Lake Wales are SO nice and really work with me with suggestions and easy, helpful rescheduling. My landlord takes his pets here too and highly recommended them!
