We made a special visit to Osh to try them on a weekend trip to Nashville about a month ago. I'd saved them in my Nashville bookmarks for some time after they received a lot of acclaim on Yelp - I believe at one time they were on a Yelp list of best restaurants in the US. We were certainly excited to try Uzbek food, as there's nowhere that serves it where we live. The restaurant doesn't look like too much from the outside and the parking lot is a little run down. However, the inside is very updated and super clean and comfortable. There's lots of seating, what appears to be a private room in the back, and some high-tech features, like a machine that you can use to alert waitstaff if you need a refill, a to-go box, or any other kind of attention. The bathrooms were also immaculate. Service was a little strange. I wouldn't say it was slow - every time we placed an order or had a request, our food or items were promptly brought out to us. However, the challenge came in getting the attention of our waitresses. Two ladies took care of us, alternating based on availability. One was very nice and friendly, the other a little gruff and irritable-seeming. But both were completely averse to coming in and checking on us without one of us flagging them down. Perhaps they're used to the little machines? I don't like using those because they come across as too demanding; I'd prefer to just be visited and checked in on from time to time by staff. Not so here. Despite not being very busy, our visit took a lot of time, even though the actual food service was fairly quick. Onto the food, the most important part. We ordered a lot because I wanted to experience as many unique dishes as possible. One waitress first brought out a complimentary serving of pita and what I believe was suzma, which the menu describes as a yogurt-based cheese. This was one of the highlights of our meal, actually, as the pita was hot, fresh, and very lightly charred. The suzma went very well with it. Then we ordered a chicken somsa and some Uzbek bread. The chicken somsa was alright; the pastry was delightfully flaky, but for me it was way too onion-forward. The Uzbek bread was another highlight. It was a temperature and textural delight - so warm and fluffy - if not a flavor bomb. It was great to polish off the remaining suzma from our complimentary treat. For entrees, my husband wanted to try the signature osh, while I ordered chicken shashlik. The osh was probably the better of the two but he didn't love it. It was quite greasy and the lamb was on the gamey side. My chicken shashlik had definitely been near charcoal too long; it had an overly-charred, unpleasant chemical-y taste. The accompanying rice had so much butter or oil in it that it was greasy, too, and although that imparted more flavor into it, I felt gross after a couple of bites. Everything was cooked well, just the flavors really didn't quite come together for us on this visit. It's hard for me to believe, given the average outstanding reviews and consistent praise this place gets, that our experience was an average one. Perhaps we just came on an off day or ordered the wrong things for our palates, since we're fairly unfamiliar with this cuisine. Nashville is known for many things ranging from honkey tonks filled with misbehaving tourists to iconic dishes like hot chicken. There is a secret however, that few would ever reveal: Nashville has some seriously solid authentic Uzbek food. As the city is home to the largest Kurdish population in America, the foundation of community attracted not only Kurds, but also Uzbeks from larger American cities. Osh is one such outpost for an excellent and authentic meal. Shurpa soup is spectacular with delicate lamb and fatty broth. Manti are ok, although the lamb filling is a bit on the dry side. Somsa is incredible and flaky. Medovik is subpar, synthetic tasting and dry. While not every dish was the highlight of culinary mastery, as a whole, the meal was very satisfying. The kind people working here make the establishment amazing, attentive and kind to give great suggestions. So, for something authentic and tasty, make a trip to this random strip mall and enjoy a family restaurant that adds a cool character to Nashville's community. read more

We had a res at another place that couldn't seat us, so we took a flyer on Osh. So glad we did! We walked in on a Sat nite without a res and were seated quickly. They brought us water and warm flatbread with labneh. It was a great way to start the evening. Our server recommended the lamb dumplings and the chicken kabob. We ordered that plus the Uzbek bread and a lamb sambosa. The sambosa was delicious; flaky dough and minced well spiced lamb. The chicken kabob was delectable; tender, well spiced, and served with sumac onions and other accompaniments. The lamb dumplings (think big manti or momos) were fantastic; again, well spiced lamb and tender dough, served with a really lovely yogurt sauce. Service was fast and friendly. I had heard that OSH was a fantastic restaurant and I had been meaning to try it for some time, especially as my family and I had never had Uzbek food. My family and I were able to visit at the end of January and it definitely lives up to its reputation! We came here on a Saturday night and were able to get a table for the 5 of us. We started our meal with Uzbek bread and a plate of suzma, hummus, and ikra with pita; the Uzbek bread was fluffy and delicious and the suzma had a lovely tangy taste to it that reminded us of a good Greek yogurt. The hummus was very tasty as well and it was nice to try the ikra, but it wasn't our favorite. Several of our party had the OSH and they really liked it and my wife and I had the lamb kebab and it was absolutely delicious; it was seasoned well and cooked well and it paired well with the sauces and grilled vegetables. We finished our meal with the kunefe, which is a favorite of mine, and everything was just super delicious overall. OSH is a wonderful family-owned restaurant and while it's located in an unassuming little strip mall and doesn't look like much from the outside, it's 100% worth a visit and definitely one of the best restaurants in Nashville. The OSH had a good flavor (and I hadn't had it before) - imagine a good "plan rice" dish, but to me, it isn't really an entree - it was like a "Chinese fried rice", but no meat and less veg. What can I say, the place had some improvement in terms of design, however, while the food looks like on pictures the taste is not even average, it tastes bad and very far from real Uzbek food. I am part of a Sunday supper club that goes and eats at different restaurants in Middle TN once a month. We chose Osh for November, and it was the perfect choice! They had a separate room for us that fit 12 people. Quite a few people had never been so I helped with ordering for the table. Osh welcomes everyone with warm pita with a cream cheese/sour cream like white dip sprinkled with paprika. Then we ordered three orders of chuchvara which is a fried meat dumpling. They came 4 to one order so three allowed everyone to enjoy one. It was a big hit and everyone really loved it. Then we ordered the eggplant salad that was nice with great flavor. It comes chilled so keep that in mind. We ordered two soups: Pelmeni and Kuza Shurpa. I always get the pelmeni every time I go and I was really happy to try a new soup that came in a clay pot. It has meat, carrots, and another vegetable in a clear broth. It had a mild taste and wasn't overly seasoned. We ordered two dishes of Norin which is a classic Central Asian dish that is handmade noodles cut up served with onions on the side with a salty hot broth that you can request on the side. No one had had a dish quite like this which was fun to experience. They were out of their signature dish, Osh but we were able to pivot. We ordered two Shrimp Jiz Biz dishes and two mixed grill platters. Everyone enjoyed both of these dishes very much! I highly recommend both. We ordered Lagman Soup with noodles and a similar dish that came with rice. I will be coming back to order the lagman soup so I can eat the chewy noodles again. Then we ended the meal with three desserts. The favorite was the kunefe. They were all light and it was fun to share all of them to wrap up the meal. I found this restaurant from Yelp's top 100 restaurant list, and I knew I had to visit it when I was in Nashville, TN. You can make reservations on OpenTable. I made a reservation several days prior to arriving. However, I did not need them at lunchtime (not sure how full it gets during dinner hours). There is a private lot shared with other businesses on the strip. FOOD: 1. Sampler Platter, 4/5 (Suzma {yogurt-based cheese}, Hummus, and Ikra {eggplant, tomato, pepper, and onion}): -Suzma: Good. -Hummus: Average. -Ikra: Delicious. 2. Uzbek Bread, 3/5 (Homemade Uzbek Bread): OK. I wasn't too impressed. We ate this with the other condiments within the sampler platter. 3. OSH Special, 3/5 (Rice Pilaf, Braised Lamb, Carrots, Yogurt, and Achicuk Salad {tomato and onion}): Essentially, it's braised lamb pieces mixed with rice pilaf and cooked carrots. Occasionally, I would get the lamb and dip it to the yogurt on the side. The side salad was a nice refreshing taste to balance out the other flavors. 4. More people should be talking about the Uzbek food at Osh restaurant. The ambiance feels homey and perfect for families (yes, they have high chairs). You can admire some of the traditional Uzbek tea sets and other decor as you also check out their extensive menu. Portions are huge and definitely meant to share. We left stuffed to the gills. The suzma as an appetizer was deliciously tangy. The Uzbek bread to share was also freshly made! By the time we tucked into the lamb jiz-biz as a main, we were pretty full: however, it was still a fantastic decision and was spiced perfectly. The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive. The service is spectacular here! The servers were very friendly and attentive. They were out of the OSH which is the specialty that we wanted to try but we were not disappointed by anything we got. I loved the Chuchvara and the Filo Cheese rolls. The cheese rolls come with a rose dipping sauce, it's so unique and delicious. They are closed on Monday's and it was a Sunday, since they ran out of items, it didn't make sense to cook more at the end of the day if they were closed the next day, so keep that in mind. To be fair we booked a later dinner reservation, so that's on us! We had a party of 6 and they sat us in what felt like a private room, which was a nice feel. Go on the early side for fast service, but go anytime for a delicious escape from the ordinary. Start with Cuchvara, the spicy (as in flavorful, not as in hot) meat dumplings. A light crispy shell surrounding a savory filling. If you want to give yourself a healthy, refreshing treat, try the Ayran. But beware: it's a tart yogurt drink not full of sugar or artificial flavors. The signature dish, Osh, is definitely worth trying if you want a nice mix of meat, carbs, and veggies. Think Rice-a-Roni, central Asian style... accompanied with yogurt sauce and a tomato salad (which you could mix in for added flavor. When Yelp listed OSH on their top 100 places for 2022, I placed them on my must try list. All the way on the other side of Nashville, I brought the family together for an evening out. The cuisine comes from the "...stan" region of the world (Uzbekistan in particular) and it was fun trying a new cuisine. Plus, we liked it enough to want to come back. The restaurant is located in a strip mall with plenty of parking, clearly operated by a sincere family, and caters to informal diners up to formal gatherings, all depending on your requests. The greatest challenge with the menu is narrowing your choices down. I was willing to try it all. We all agreed to order different things and work from there. Depending on your dish, spices may be toned down from authentic dishes but that doesn't mean it doesn't taste great. Lamb is featured heavily in the cuisine and I had the jiz-biz. Great meal for me and I recommend it in all of its forms (chicken, lamb, vegetable). The ikra spread suprised us with its savory flavor and that will be an appetizer of choice in the future. For a drink, compote had a light flavor that perfectly complemented the spiciness of the main dishes. No dessert this time but we look forward to doing that on another visit. There were a few things I didn't appreciate. We were seated near the telephone and the answering machine was full volume, and the benches in the booths sink lower tham I like. G(OSH)!! This place is incredible. I came here on a whim after hearing so many amazing things about it. It was my first time trying Uzbek food. I'm glad that I was adventurous and decided to give this a go. Suzma- To my surprise, the staff brought out a free appetizer for the table. The suzma, a refreshing yogurt dip, was served with warm pita. The two paired perfectly and it was a great way to start my meal. The appetizer was not too heavy but something to hold me over while the main dish was being prepared. Lamb Kebab- This blew me away! I never knew lamb could be SO SOFT!! I've had many lamb kebabs before but this was by far the best I've ever tasted. The meat just melted in my mouth and was extremely flavorful. The grilled veggies, rice, and yogurt sauce were a nice light addition to go with the heaviness of the meat. The staff were very efficient and friendly.
