I. Dream. Of. Ossie's! It's been 15 years since I've been. I grew up in a fish market with really high quality fish and great cooking. We made great seafood. I have high standards. Ossie's can absolutely say they're the best in North America. Only 16 reviews!? Name change? This road side pit stop haunts me. Lobster rolls were great. Coleslaw and tartar sauce were great. The best part of a road trip is finding places like this. The worst part is knowing it's 16hrs away so you may not be back. Just after crossing the border into Canada we were lucky enough to find this on google maps. It's in the middle of nowhere so we didn't know what to expect but the crowd was a good sign. We ordered the fried clams, lobster roll, club sandwich, and poutine. The winner of the lot was the fried clams which came with homemade tartar sauce. The lobster roll was pretty awesome as well. The kids devoured the club sandwich and poutine (I helped with the poutine). read more

Amazing. Fresh, lightly breaded, excellent homemade tarter sauce. A little off the highway, but good parking and clean restrooms- worth the stop for sure. Family has been stopping here for years.. food is ALL good! read more

Yes yes yes! This place was popping on Sunday early afternoon and I totally get why! I read about this place before driving up the route to Canada. I had a lobster roll....my oh my...was that good. The husband had the seafood sampler and loved it too! All in all you need to go there, you really do! Oh and there are lots of covered picnic tables and the bathrooms were spotless! read more

Ossie's Lunch is a popular roadside stand with outside takeout windows located along "old" NB Route 1 in Bethel, NB, open during the warmer months. They proclaim they serve "The Best Seafood In North America." They serve up drive-in type fare including their famous fried clams plus other fried seafood (scallops, shrimp, haddock), chicken, burgers, hot dogs, poutines, fried foods, hot sandwiches, rolls, desserts (ice cream treats (hard & soft serve) from Northumberland Dairy, pies, & gingerbread with whipped cream) and canned pop. The prices are moderate, fried seafood plates $9.75 (2 pc fish & chips) to $25.50 (large seafood platter), seafood rolls $9.25-$10, and the other menu items priced under $10, before HST. I stopped here on the drive between Saint John and Saint Stephen. Since the NB Route 1 alignment has been relocated to the north as an expressway, we had to take Exit 45 via NB Route 760 South and follow the strategically placed "Ossie's Lunch" signs to the restaurant. I ordered the Fried Clams ($13.95) and one piece Fried Haddock ($3.50) for takeout, total just under $20 with HST. The place was fairly busy and the workers in the kitchen were not exactly rushing things (like at other clam shacks in the USA), so it took a while (20 minutes) for my order number to be called over the PA system. The fried clams (whole belly) were very good and tasty, breading/coating was very crispy on the outside and not too greasy. The piece of fried haddock also had very crispy breading on the outside as wll. The homemade tartar sauce was better tasting than the standard Kraft tartar sauce served at many eateries across Canada. The size of the order of fried clams seemed on the smaller side for the price charged, but the fried clams were very enjoyable. This was recommended by a local. I was a little unsure About the looks of the place but it was great. I had the lobster roll combo with sweet potato fries. Fantastic! I didn't care for their homemade tartar sauce but the coleslaw was traditional, crunchy and very tasty. read more

The sign reads "Best Seafood in North America" which is quite boastful. After all North America includes Cape Cod, Maine, Seattle, Maryland, Digby and Charlottetown! But if it's fried seafood you want (and you have been driving for hours), Ossie's ranks high. The seafood is fresh, the oil is clean and the lines are long. Went on an east coast journey in June started off from St John, NB. We were heading to the salmon farm when i noticed on my GPS that Ossie's is near by. I had read the review prior to our trip and since its lunch time we've decided to stop over on a cold cloudy afternoon. Its located on a barren land surrounded by tall trees. There were lots of benches and parking is ample. There is also washrooms available and clean. We stepped up the counter and ordered our first lobster roll, we also ordered fish and chips and fried clams. The fish is actually haddock and once our order is ready they'll call out your order number to be picked up on the next wimdow. Condiments needs to be asked and not self serve. The fish and chips are truly delectable, as fresh as it came no fishy smell. Fried clams are also good nothing spectacular. Lobster roll is tasty and roll is good not dry. However we find the lobster meat a bit chewy. Location is really excellent if you dont mind the bugs. Fresh air cool breeze away from nosy busy city life. Need to be a bit courteous to dispose of any leftovers properly in a designated bins near the bench or racoons will infest the picnic area. Would definitely come back if we plan our trip back again. Staffs are really friendly and food servings are generous. read more

Loved this place. Food stand with number of picnic tables outside. Lots of parking even for RV's. Was going to order fish and chips and asked counter help for suggestions. She said the seafood platter was her favorite. We got the small for two of us with an extra piece of fish and extra cold slaw. It was perfect. Nice light batter. Fish excellent. We didn't finish all the tasty French fries. Would definitely stop back if in the area. Only a short distance off the highway. read more

My wife and I just ate here. I ordered the clams and chips and my wife had a parfait. The clams were well battered and tasty. The ice cream was good as well. All in all everything was good, not the best in North America though. read more

We were on the last leg of our motorcycle trip and our stomachs started to call. We saw this sign on the highway and decided to explore. Wow. That was a stop well worth it. We got the scallop and whole clams. The taste of the seafood was impeccable. We also got a bowl of the Atlantic clam chowder. I am craving Ossie's as I write this email. What can I say, Ossie's is everything a fried seafood joint should be; filling, crispy and fresh. Many places claim to have "the best" of whatever they serve and in Ossie's case I'd say they were a contender. Fish and chips: Fries are crispy on the outside fluffy on the inside, plentiful and tasty. The fish is obviously fresh (and it should be that close to the coast) and lightly battered then fried to crispy perfection. It comes with the choice of homemade or Kraft tartar sauce and any sane person should have the homemade, creamy dill-y goodness. Clams: The best of the best, people the world over need to experience them. And actually they make very good burgers as well. read more

We have been stopping to eat at Ossie's for decades. It is a much needed rest and chow down spot on our summer trip to and from PEI. Best fried seafood anywhere and the whole belly clam dinner with their homemade tartar sauce is to die for. They used to be open as early as 9am and we would have "breakfast" there, but a few years back they changed to opening at 11am (boo-hoo) ,so hitting it just right on the way up to PEI is dicier than it used to be. Picnic tables, a restroom cabin and dog walk out back of the restrooms make this a good place to take a break from a long drive. read more

We usually go to Ossies at least once a year, sometimes twice. Some of the freshest fried seafood I've had. Cooked perfectly. My only gripe is they serve frozen fries. Really wish they had fresh cut fries to go with the seafood. All in all one if the best seafood takeouts I've been to. If you're in SW New Brunswick, you owe it to yourself to stop in. read more

My sister and I made a special 90 minute one way trip solely to have the Lobster Rolls at Ozzie's which we knew from prior experience would make the trip worthwhile. It has been a couple of years since we had been there and looked forward to the trip for days. What a disappointment when we discovered that they changed how they made their Lobster Rolls. The Mayo was no longer home-made, the sliced celery was gone, and although there was a lobster claw on top of each roll, the amount of lobster meat in the roll itself was noticeably reduced and replaced with some sort of machine made mulch that admittedly had lobster meat in it, but not the chucks of before. Most of the roll was taken up by a clump of lettuce. The result was like eating a mass produced Cole-slaw roll with a small lobster claw on top. Definitely not worth the drive and a real downer as we were so excited about getting what was the best lobster roll in the Maritimes. The only characteristic that remained was the buttered toasted roll, which is not enough to salvage the mediocre roll. Shame on you Ozzie's. Bring back the original way that you used to make lobster rolls. read more
